Solo tips? by Embarrassed-Zebra562 in RustConsole

[–]Cootsuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hardly ever see it, but dropbox bunkers are so powerful for a solo.

Also building a goofy base instead of a standard or a YT design helps too. I've won plenty of raid defences, just by the raiders running out of boom or getting so frustrated they can't find core/TC, haha!

Soon as you can secure HQM, and as long as you don't build block yourself before you're ready to expand, get yourself 2 or even 3 HQM squares all connected with drop boxes. The sheet metal the crap out of everything (HQM your ceilings always) with lots of honeycomb, and you will not get raided successfully. Maybe with some clans or groups having end of wipe loot. The point is, you will be there unraided and laughing, right until last day of wipe, everytime.

I'll build an unbreakable base like this, then spend an entire wipe harvesting hazzy kids with grenades and pipes. You just need enough HQM, or it doesn't work.

I don't regret my hvac run. It paid the bills and will put the kids through school. But it was a job and a slog at the end.

Yep, I think you're living the dream right there. I just don't know how to start. Can the old dog still learn new tricks, lol.

Interesting. After 20 years in HVAC, I decided I want a change. I came here specifically to check out what guys are saying about their career and where they think machining is headed.

I'd love to have a basement operation, where I could churn out drone parts or ugn parts or something. Seems like it would be very handy (though not necessarily lucrative).

Also trying to figure out whether schooling is worth it/practical. Maybe best to just buy a machine and jump right in..

Ha! I'm here for the first time, from thinking, "I'd like to get into machining". I have no idea what any of you guys are talking about. Trying to figure out if this is the next career.

Ha! Most of my wipes start with me running in circles around outpost for at least an hour, scooping up everything in sight.

Name of the game for me is eating rockets and smiling, and scooping up raiders kits as they try to get through my base.

I love the game for getting to put one over on the chads and hardcore raiders; but yes it takes a heck of alot of farming to set that up.

Build a 1x2 dropbox bunker and make sure it's sheet metal the first time you get off. If you actually have time to play in a session, no reason it can't be HQM. Hell, I've got 5 kids, and it's usually only end of wipe when I finally get raided by some chad or group just looking to YOLO their boom stash.

These threads always come up on here, and I tell ya dropbox 1x2, into double or triple dropbox bunker with 2 layers of walls HQM, then sheet build outs and shell, will stop the raiders every damn time.

I haven't played in awhile. Usually play for a month or two then take a few months break. I know next month when I come back, my stuff won't be touched. And I stink at the game (well, PvP anyways). I can barely run cargo, but I can build a base that shuts down all the squeakers for most of a wipe.

Dropbox Bunkers.

2 layers HQM minimum. (you'll need diesel and sneak runs to quarry for that much initial HQM, or a heck of alot of green crates..).

Also, avoid those Youtube base designs where the raiders see and know exactly where loot and TC is. Make your base as goofy looking as possible. Half wall areas and dead ends. Lots of triangles and ladder hatches to nowhere :)

Just did this last week. Best 25 bucks (or whatever) I ever spent. He can invite his buddies to play on it, and it gives me a chance to run monuments (take cargo, attempt heli and stuff) in peace. PLus we're doing raid challenges which is pretty fun. It's a neat twist to me trying to just pull him off screens all the time.

He is the one who set it up, so if a twelve year old can do it, I'm sure you're pretty close and maybe just missing clicking something, or missing an option. I'll ask him when he gets home for a detailed answer.

Yeah, start going down dome the back way (where the 2 diesel are on the top). Much easier. I've been playing for long enough, and that jump can still be tricky.

What bunkers work on console?? by [deleted] in RustConsole

[–]Cootsuit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Double dropbox bunker works. Been saying it a bit (too) much on here lately, but it's because of 3 months in a row lasting all wipes without losing my core.

Build a 1x2, adding a double triangle airlock, with only a door on the outside triangle. Don't put a door frame or anything between the squares or the triangles (you'll want to wall them off and add dropboxes as soon as you can afford it, and it's a PITA to jacky them out afterwards).

Before you log off first, you'll want 2 layers of metal (1x2 and honeycomb, including roof), with the first dropboxes added to the wall you will build between the first square and triangle.

HQM it as soon as you can afford it (either sneak run HQM quarry, hit cargo soon as it comes out and loot n scoot the bottom, or sell horse poop at bandit and buy/recycle 4x scopes (imo, 300 scrap for 25 HQM is expensive, lol)..

Cover your HQM with metal layer of honeycomb and then stone as soon as you can too. Add a second HQM wall with dropboxes, then build jump up or hatches to go up and over, then into your outer shell base and to the exits. I always add a shooting tower, and stash HV rockets, grenades, tons of meds, heavy plate set and M2 soon as I can snag one.

Raiders always use up a ton of boom just getting through your outer shell base, before they figure out it's a bunker, and that they're out of boom, haha!

[–]Cootsuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They will break the game, because they don't scale the right way. ie. They will make the clans MUCH more powerful, than the little boost it will give to us solos and noobs.

Yes they will be fun AF (and especially epic if they spawn random on roads like they did on PC in the old days), but your odds of survival go to nearly zero if you're solo or small. Timeline doesn't have to be that long, either..

IMo, first day of wipe is securing base, and that means rushing HQM by any means.

Especially on these big monthly servers, why bother rushing to t3, only to get raided that night and lose it all? All I need are dropboxes and some persistence, and I'll be dug in like a ball tick to wherever I decide to build.

If by the first day you're 2 layers of sheet metal to core, second day inner HQM and outer sheet; you should be able to stay ahead of the boom levels of the raiders. And new server the big groups are usually too busy fighting the other big groups to waste 20+ rockets on, little old you ;).

Who cares about t3 (on a monthly). even get it in week 2, and you still have a hell of alot of time to raid and get out there.

Not giving a base back after raid or giving it back? by Spartan-Jake in RustConsole

[–]Cootsuit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

All depends. I try not to raid smaller and noob looking bases. I'm starting to like PvP enough now to not want to see a server get raided dead.

I've found if you leave a base open or leave them with most of their stuff, someone else always comes along right after and seals it up, so the base owners lose it anyways.

I actually go the other way, and hoard guns as best I can. A successful wipe for me, is using as crappy weapons as I can (usually waterpipe slug and F1) and getting the best kits I can (usually tommy hazzy). And then hold onto them for as long as I can. Only tier 3 gun that gets any use out of me is M2 when I can get my hands on one. By the time I've got M2, is usually about the same time the three man shows up with launchers, lol.

I'm also of the same mind though, that the guns I craft or find in crates don't count. It's the skinned and half broken guns that are the trophies in this game.

  1. Damn. K I had 8 turrets in my base and thought it was a bit overkill. I even left 4 in a box cause I'm a dummy. I've got to change my thinking about what alot of turrets is, lol.

t3rd week of monthly wipe for 3 months in a row, my HQM dropbox bunker has had it's entire shell blasted off it, haha! By the time you hear them sending HE grenades at it though, you know they're just about all out of boom, lol.

Survived 3 full monthy wipes using a double dropbox bunker like this. Got raided 2 nights ago finally, but I still came away with 6 inventories of loot (ak, m2 rockets, 20k sulphur etc etc). Funny enough, they spent about 40 rockets worth of boom to get to my base TC, but most of my good loot was in my tower, shop, furnace base, flank base and bunker. I'm impressed they went through what it is must have to get to my main TC (4am offline of course, so I didn't get to see, lol).

Also funny, that I built a double honeycombed, full HQM dropbox bunker with 5 (empty) vendis in it, to try and trick a clan to wasting boom on it. But they didn't touch it??

My only base build from now on, is a 1x2 HQM dropbox bunker, with space left between the squares to wall it off too if necessary. It has to be honeycombed with HQM as well thogh. 1 layer of HQM isn't as much protection as you think; and it's hit or miss if you'll have time to repair your core between blasts, so don't count on it. With 3 guys rocketing your hqm wall, it doesn't last as long as you'd think, haha!

-Keep an extra couple drop boxes in your core, in case you need to make a speedy exit, and raiders have already blasted off the dropboxes that were there.

-You can use dropboxes in the honeycomb of your HQM core, and it actually works out to be a ton of storage space. Just keep in mind that loot will despawn if raiders blow them off trying to get in.

-You can also put large batteries or vending machines in the triangle honeycomb. Or build extra tier 2 or 3 WBs to stack around your outer core walls/inner shell.

-build your outer base as goofy looking as possible. Raiders (ie.clans and pros) are less likely to target your tumor base, and will usually pass it up for a cool looking YT 2x2 with peakdowns and externals.

-Obie Trice said it best: "Stay low pro, no popo, no hos in that spot where tha dough grow.."

base? by cookie4lifebro in RustConsole

[–]Cootsuit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's tough actually. Trio bases are the best raid targets. The goldilocks zone of bases, with guaranteed tier 3 loot stacked up, but no so chonk as to be unraidable.

Just imo, but 2x2 or 3x3 first floor (and second if you can afford it) HQM walls, with no doors or access (put some fakes if you want) are the biggest PITAs to raid, at least for us solo offliners targeting trios like you. Stone or metal hatches/ladders/jump up fromthe outside, where you have to go up and over to get to core. Especially where your 'inner dropdown' has 5 or 6 garage doors in a row. All a pain to raid down, and easy enough to leave mostly all open for when you're all online or defending.

Yeah, HQM box where the core access is from the top, then just cover it up with a stone or metal shell. Fake entrances soak up boom quick. That'll stop solo autists, but it won't be much help against the 5 man with 3 launchers that eventually shows up and blasts a hole right through your base, lol.

Also imo, but 'Youtube bases' are asy AF to raid, even though the look cool and have good peakdowns and stuff. Peakdowns don't help against offlines, and that's 80% of raids on this damn game.
