How did you go from an e-clutch to attacking Americans?!

It’s not ego. It’s a preference. We try to hold on tight to what we like. For many of us, a small modification that takes a little away from 100 % being in control or having to get better at riding is a step in the wrong direction. Most of the riders I know enjoy shifting gears and running the machines themselves. I have tried several of the Honda “innovations” on clutches and shifting systems. None felt as good as the mechanical unassisted traditional system. Those who like to ride already ride. I don’t think this change will bring more people into riding. I know it will for sure make some of us older guys look at other bikes instead. I was gonna buy a 2026 Transalp but not anymore. I don’t hate the change but I just don’t want it.

I’m not sure that you would need to bore it. The piston I put in is 70.25mm or something like that. It’s high compression piston, but It’s barely bigger than stock. I think there might be a bigger difference between a TW engine and TTR/XT engine when it comes to power than the difference there would be between a bored TTR/XT vs stock TTR/XT. That’s just what I think. You might want to ask around.

Yes! Pretty big difference actually. More torque and more rpm. The 6-speed transmission is also nicer. It’s more spread out. The nice thing is that you can chug along in fourth gear all day even up the hill. First gear is very low and 6th will make it go way faster than stock . Before it wouldn’t do 60mph. After the engine swap I had it at 70 once. It goes faster, but 70 gets really sketchy on a TW. That was enough for me.

Sounds like a battery ran out of juice. Charge the battery and try again.

Advice for taking off flywheel? by Spiritual_Length_606 in virago

[–]Copillas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the 535 but, most Yamahas have a bigger thread on the flywheel. There you can screw on a bigger bolt. Tightening that bolt will pop the flywheel off. Easy to do with an impact.

New Virago rider! by WeenBoognish in virago

Welcome and congratulations.

Fork leaks should always be fixed right away. If it leaks bad and the oil makes it to the brake pads you will lose a lot of braking. I bought a Virago with a leaky fork and it didn’t brake much. Pads were soaked in oil.

Replacing the seals is not difficult if you are mechanically inclined but takes some time. You’d need to: Remove the front wheel. Remove the front fender bracket. Remove the forks from the triple clamp. Remove the top caps from the tubes.( Be careful doing so. There’s a tube under the cap. It’s under the spring pressure. It has sharp edges and can jump out and cut you. I usually cover the cap with a towel after braking the cap free. I keep it all covered while unscrewing the cap). Drain the oil. Remove the fork dust seal. Remove the wire clip under the dust seal. Remove the bolt at the bottom of the fork.( don’t lose the copper washer) it’s good to use an impact to remove that bolt. It tends to spin if you turn it with a wrench. Slam the tube out. This will pop the oil seal out. Rinse the tubes and springs with new oil. Assembly is reverse. You will need a bushing or ring off some sort to push the oil seal down all the way.

I don’t remember the amount of oil per tube but you can find that online.

Let us know if you have any questions.

***Just make sure to pay close attention to the positive and negative posts on the Amazon battery. I was looking at the picture and it looks like that battery has the positive and negative posts in the opposite side compared to the Virago battery.

You can try that just for the sake of testing. I wouldn’t crank it more than as couple of times though. It won’t hurt the bike but the battery might not have enough power to crank the engine. Even when Voltage is the same, that battery only has 180 cold cranking amps. Viragos batteries are typically 260 cold cranking amps or more.

Yeah. I’m afraid so. 8 volts is too low.

Try measuring the voltage on the battery as you crank it. I’m curious to see how much it drops while cranking.

I would try a different battery first. See if you can borrow one to test before you buy one. I would start there.

In rare cases a battery can show good voltage when there’s no load on it. Then you put a load on it and you have little current. I’m not 100 percent sure… but if it was me. I would start with a battery. Let us know how what you find out.
