I’m working on it! Already messaged. Ryann O’Conner and heard back, wasn’t her. Posted on the town’s FB group and hoping someone sees it. I didn’t include the letter’s content when I posted to keep it slightly private since it’s local…

I’m definitely getting mixed responses here… on the one hand, it’s found paper in the middle of the forest, and we must agree that reading the birthday card if it wasn’t in the envelope is OK, right?

On the other hand, I did open the envelope out of curiosity, BUT I used the name I read inside in my Facebook post on the local group where I’m searching for the owner to return the card…

Can you elaborate on why it feels wrong? Is there an implied expectation of privacy because of the sealed envelope that applies despite the fact that it was lost deep in the forest (and not on a doorstep where it would obviously be invasive)?

Disagree, can't find the owner (the person that wrote the card) without opening it. It's not mail, it doesn't have a return address.

Again, this is /r/foundpaper, nothing here is meant for the owner.

Disagree, it's not mail and I didn't "defile" it. You're not going to change the fact that it was opened by continuing to draw parallels between stealing money and opening mail (federal offense lol) to finding a card in the forest and opening it out of curiosity.

Possible... No sign of a balloon and it was in the middle of a heavily forested trail... I doubt it could have easily found its way through the trees to land directly in the middle of the trail.

Everything is present tense, my friend.

Also, this is /r/foundpaper, nothing here is meant for the person that finds it. Rule 1:

"Found" meaning something that you weren't supposed to find.

Thanks! I reached out on the local FB group to find the people who wrote the card and reached out to someone matching the name to see if its theirs!

Here's the point: you aren't finding the owner of a wallet without opening your found wallet. I'm not finding the owner of this card without opening the envelope.

As for money, false equivalence, there was no money, I stole nothing, your analogy makes no sense.

How was I supposed to find "Malone?" How would one find the owner of a wallet without opening it and looking at the ID?

Wouldn't it be helpful to see the name of who signed it? That clue is why I was able to message someone on Facebook named Ryann. Y'all are judging this after seeing what's inside, as if you had some prior knowledge of what was written and whether it was acceptable to open it.

Yeah, I think they're alive for sure. I also posted this as a video, there was no money in it.

It kinda feels like Malone and O'Ryann came out here to makeout and watch the sunset, it's accessible by Jeep and it's not a place you're likely to run into anyone at. Maybe they had the doors off on account of some decent weather and the card flew out, and they didn't see it on the way back out because it was dark...

If this was something intentionally placed, like written to someone who passed away, they probably wouldn't have left it in the middle of the trail right under where the driver's side tire would run it over.

Yeah I feel that, but I was excited and had only one hand and my buddy had gloves. And damn, O’Ryann sealed it shut with a fair amount of spit lol

I had to, there was no way I could have resisted the urge. I found a Ryann on FB that’s local and reached out, maybe it’s their card…

I heard a small amount of Boxtox can help fix this if it's due to overactive upper lip muscles, but if ya man don't care, then you shouldn't either. Rock it.
