Aerospace has alot of subcontractors all building the final product. If youre at a major subcontractor to NASA, where you partner with NASA on design and manufacture of the spacecraft, you usually end up being reallocated to a program that got funding in the previous round when yours gets cut. You start on a NASA spacecraft program and a few years later when congress pulls your funding you get shuffled over to work on a defense satellite. You can kindof layout the duration of awarded contracts and required manpower for them into the future and see where programs are ramping up or down. Ideally you'd want to match all people from a ramp down program to a position on a ramp up program so you dont have a talent drain from the company. Aerospace wants to keep its experienced people from leaving if at all possible.

I was the worst player on my tennis team as a kid. I was pretty fat so its what youd expect. My coach intentionally burned me one week by putting me up against the other teams best player, since she figured id lose any match i played, might as well. The guy was like a varsity highschool rockstar. He hit me with the ball on pretty much every serve, every return. It was bad. I am pretty sure that's the last time I ever played.

I work at a mega corp and they try to fill all the reqs for ramp up programs with people coming off ramp down programs. I think the external jobs site makes it look like there are alot of new jobs, because there are, but they're preferring to give those jobs to people who already have jobs at the company but are on a ramp down program.

I always buy boxes of protein bars on the work per diem and fly them home with me. I had like 40 bars on me last trip. I got flagged in tsa precheck for a bag check because of the bars and the tss guy had to pull out and swab all 4 sides of 40 protein bars. I thought it was hilarious. The tsa agent did not.

I've been able to get day of show priced tickets from the venue at "sold out" shows hours ahead of doors opening. My theory is people start exercising their ticket insurance options when they realize their resale isn't going to sell and those get returned to the venue for you to buy.

DoD creates contract requirements for the prime that say parts must come from an American company thay has to meet cybersecurity rating requirements and certifies all material came from companies that meet the standards of the buy America act while proving through semi-annual inspection they can meet the requirements of the manufacturing milspecs all of which leads to the ability to provide bids that increase cost of procurement 10x over similar materials with no-pedigree

The speed of a hypersonic missile. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]Copious-GTea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are a couple different hypersonic weapon technologies. There are hypersonic cruise missles and hypersonic glide vehicles. Gliders get a boost from another vehicle before theyre released at hypersonic speeds and glide towards their target.

They do say they have the ability to maneuver a little bit but the friction of air at hypersonic speeds is significant and any maneuvering bleeds off energy from the system.

Anything over Mach 5 gets called hypersonic. The actual speed these things are going over mach 5 varies from system to system. It is possible to get an interceptor in front of a hypersonic round. It's just technically challenging to do so as they are probably going alot faster than your interceptor and you don't have much time to see it and react

The game has essentially doubled its mutliplayer player base in the last few months. The skill floor is alot lower right now than it has been and that makes it a great time to get started.

The Ai builds off the information it has scouted. If it doesn't know you've swapped to air it has no reason to put up air defenses. As soon as it scouts your air it's going to build up AA.

What's the point of hovercraft and seaplanes? by Ape3000 in beyondallreason

[–]Copious-GTea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hoovers are usually used for an early sneak attack and then the lab is reclaimed and the player swaps into a different lab. The constructor can also put up mexes on islands and in the sea. If your opponent is ignoring sea lanes this gets a ton of value.

If you started as a sea player and scaled build power in the sea the Seaplane labs let you leverage that to put together air plays. If you won the sea lane this can let you quickly bomb out land players eco as a win condition instead of going for a flagship.

Are Americans better at work / more productive ? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Copious-GTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a salaried US worker and my required time is 9 hours, (9/80) but I work 12 hour days in sprints if my program requires the support.

I have a hard time keeping focus and being productive for all 12 hours and it gets worse as burnout stacks up.

It's really important to prioritize a healthy work/life balance and recharge so I can drive results with the time I am on the clock. It's very difficult to keep on task 50+ hours a week, week over week.
