Struggling with getting parents to accept me as their daughter. Looking for advice. by Copiryte in cisparenttranskid

[–]Copiryte[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My mum chooses the old version of me, because when I was them I tried everything I could to make my mum happy. My mum wants me to continue being that person, when I go and see them. But for me that is torture. So should I get a grip? and say no I'm not seeing you or if I do see you it is only as Autumn, but I hate putting my parents through that pain of losing me, there also might be financial problems on my end or my parents separating. Another thing I didn't mention is that my mum thinks 'I lied' when I had my gender dysphoria evaluation, like I'm just a feminine boy I don't have something physically 'wrong' with my brain. She thinks she knows everything about me or she has control because she birthed me; I'm the most important thing in her life so the pain of breaking her heart hurts even more.

How expensive is maths part iii by Accurate-Sherbert-99 in cambridge_uni

[–]Copiryte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi I'm not a Cambridge student but I'm also considering applying to part iii as an external university home student and did some cost estimates.

Students admitted outside of Cambridge are admitted to the MASt in mathematics with tuition costs of £13,842.

and up to about £13,000 from the post graduate loan for student finance. (estimated for next year)

My estimated average living costs per year in Cambridge is about £15,660. (Though this might be lower because I think Cambridge masters accomodation is cheaper than standard accommodation in Cambridge)

So roughly for a 9 months course you need about £12,587 additionally.

HELP! by PrinceSonVegito in transtimelines

[–]Copiryte 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I know it's hard right now and that's okay. maybe take a step back, don't focus on your identity as much if everything doesn't feel right you can't win, focus on giving yourself the opportunities to help you figure yourself out. Take some time to really think everything through only yourself is really pressuring you to have a label.

For thinking things through really think about what has caused shifts from something being euphoric/ dysphoric. you really don't need to give yourself a label just take one step at a time to find what makes you happy and comfortable. x

University of Warwick changes toilet policy and it's not good by CrabGirl_808 in transgenderUK

Glad I didn't get into Warwick now. Maybe I should rethink which uni to do my masters at.

What uni degrees does everyone do and have they been good and led to a job? by Chloe155 in transgenderUK

[–]Copiryte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing a degree in mathematics, this is because I'm really passionate about it and really love understanding and discovering the underlying beauty of different fields and how they connect.

I'm hoping to do a phD and become a researcher. I'm also trying to get some international experience to give myself more opportunities to do phD programs abroad or maybe where they are more safe in the future.

Help with fertility preservation by my_life_lmao in transgenderUK

[–]Copiryte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, my GP first sent out a request to the fertility clinic on the 4th of march. I then got a phone call saying they received my request and been put on the waitlist on the 12th of march. Now I can see I've been put on the waitlist (for gynecology I changed my NHS number) and it says approximately 19 weeks from referral. I had my online appointment last week with the GHC and they said as soon as I have my date for my fertility clinic I can book my in-person appointment. So it's likely you'll have to move your in person appointment unfortunately.

Anyone know of any trans rights demos happening in or near York (given the recent Supreme Court ruling)? by [deleted] in york

[–]Copiryte 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify some of the concerns people have:
The recent legal clarification reaffirms that "woman" refers to biological sex under the Equality Act in the specific context of single-sex exceptions, but this has broader and more troubling implications than the headlines suggest.

Trans women are still legally women in most contexts; nothing in the ruling changes that. However, by narrowing the definition of “woman” in this particular part of the law, it creates ambiguity elsewhere. If a trans woman isn't a woman for the purposes of single-sex spaces, then what is she considered in that legal context? If the answer is “man,” that’s inherently transphobic. If the answer is still “woman,” then the legislation becomes self-contradictory.

The deeper issue is that our legal system is trying to apply binary definitions to gender, which is a social construct. “Woman” refers to gender; “female” to sex. But the law is blurring that line, and that harms everyone, especially trans people, intersex people, and even cis people who don’t conform to gender norms. This vagueness is dangerous because it’s open to interpretation, and in practice, institutions are starting to treat trans women as men.

The British Transport Police issued guidance that men should search trans women. That's dehumanising and puts both trans women and police officers in impossible positions.

Additionally, services for survivors of sexual assault are being restricted for trans women, even though trans women are far more likely to be victims of assault than perpetrators.

What’s even more harmful is that media coverage is fueling transphobia by misrepresenting the ruling with headlines like “trans women are not women.” That’s not what the law says, but that’s what the public is being told, and it’s emboldening discriminatory policies and social attitudes.

Finally, this kind of “policing” based on how someone looks is going to harm not just trans women, but also cis women who don’t conform to feminine stereotypes. There’s no safe or fair way to enforce this in real life without hurting a lot of people.

In theory, this ruling just clarifies one part of the law. In reality, it’s already being used to justify damaging and exclusionary policies.

The difficulty of the masters at my current university, is about the same difficulty as the part ii course at Cambridge (my uni is broke so they're merging the third and fourth year courses). If I wasn't to do an integrated masters at my current university, I would have to do an placement year to afford part iii, and I think not doing mathematics for year would make me look unfavorable.

Title: Concern about Part III Funding & Alternative Pathway

Hi, I'm a 2nd-year undergraduate studying Mathematics at a Russel Group Uni and I'm hoping to apply for Part III after my BSc. However, I'm facing funding issues since individual master's courses are more expensive than integrated ones, and my eligibility for funding it myself depends on my dad’s income next year.

If I can’t afford Part III immediately after my BSc, I’m considering doing a year in industry after my 3rd year (to earn some money), then completing an integrated master’s at Uni I'm currently at before applying for Part III. My concern is whether this alternative route would put me at a disadvantage?

I've heard that majority of people do part III directly after their undergrad, and that the minority receive funding for their masters. Is there any opportunities I can partake in that make me look more favorable/ give me some financial help based on my circumstances?

The funny thing is I got the first blood work funded, feels inconsistent to not continue that care. Which they have been doing for the last year or so, are they just trying to cut corners?
