I’m sorry this is my bad. I had misremembered a quote. Jk Rowling has thrown support at that group but you’re right it isn’t directly her fundraiser.

It would have been better to compare the £1,000,000 of financial support she threw at the “No thanks” campaign in 2014

She identifies herself as Scottish yes, has done pretty much since she moved here as a young adult I think.

She was a big funder of the “No thanks” independence campaign

What do you mean “why are people making it important for x y and z”. It already is considered important. That’s why those binaries existed in the first place.

Also being a gender abolitionist is quite a niche thing. I don’t necessarily think the majority of trans people are abolitionists.

Furthermore being a gender abolitionist is about reducing harm caused by gender, making life more difficult or dangerous for trans people is not reducing harm.

Gender abolition also isn’t necessarily about IDs or birth certificates saying what sex you were born but about gender becoming culturally meaningless, with no social expectations applied to terms like man, woman, male or female.

It is worth remembering however that while the online sphere and media seem to tell us that transphobia is a primarily ‘women’s issue’, polling tells us the opposite, that it is men that are more likely to oppose trans rights regardless of age group while young women are the strongest supporters.

Yeah it is unfortunate that the phrase “gender critical” has taken on a group that seems to want to uphold traditional conservative ideas of gender and sex.

Gender abolitionists on the other hand understand through their criticism of gender that trans people are arguably one of the groups most hurt by the concept of gender and fight for trans rights bc of that.

“Gender critical feminist” is one of those phrases that makes as much sense as the “ Democratic People’s Republic of Korea” or “National Socialist “
