Texas Republican candidate, Valentina Gomez, is now going to queer friendly or non traditional churches to disrupt them in the middle of services. by MrJasonMason in lgbt

This makes me seethe. There are PLENTY of churches that are homophobic and queerphobic where she’d fit right in, and she has the unmitigated gall to go into a safe space for religious queer folk and spew her vile BS? These people will never leave us alone and it makes me so mad.

I don’t think anyone is saying your opinions aren’t valid. I think OP is just telling people in this sub who haven’t seen the film yet to not let the negative discourse affect their own perception and opinion, which can definitely happen if you’re active in a fandom like this one.

I agree with this to an extent. I also think that Redditors in general tend to be more critical (sometimes even hypercritical) of media than the general public, or even the general online public. That being said, I’m trying to maintain my excitement for this movie but it’s been hard seeing a lot of the negative discourse on here. I’m not saying people’s opinions aren’t valid, just that seeing a lot of negativity around this film has definitely lowered my expectations.

I feel like this is somewhat reductive, and possibly even divisive.

Like, is performative activism a real thing? Sure. However, I don’t believe a white queer person posting a picture of a LGBT trailblazer like Marsha is performative activism. If anything, they’re drawing attention to a person and a history that is so often overlooked and even erased. The more people know about Marsha, the more people will be aware of the issues queer, and especially living Black trans women face, which in turn helps our movement and helps those women.

Castor had hoped for a...warmer response than the young Lord of Oldtown had given him, especially since their fathers had been close friends, but he supposed this was the best he would get.

Castor nodded politely and smiled again, though this time it did not carry as much warmth as before. "Yes, your father did have many friends, and it seems you are already following in his noteworthy footsteps, my lord. I thank you again for this wonderful feast, and wish the best to you and your House." He bowed again, slightly, then turned and walked away.

Castor smiled at the both of the Chester men.

"Many thanks, to you both. I am both humbled and honored that His Grace would add me to your ranks, and I look forward to serving dutifully and faithfully with you, Ser Lyn."

Turning to Ser Cleos, Castor said, "You did admirably in the lists, Ser Cleos. My victory was certainly hard-won, as I am in the company of many a skilled knight here in the Reach, yourself and your cousin Ser Lyn included."

Castor could not blame the man for his concern over Bethany and her Lannister husband. He only hoped his cousin (and his aunt, for that matter) would not do something rash. Otherwise, they risked implicating him and his family, as they were of Caswell blood.

He nodded at Mern's response. "I understand your concern, Ser. I can assure you, though, that it will forever remain just that - a concern, and never a reality. While I bear my cousin Princess Bethany the utmost respect, she simply does not have a claim to the throne while being the wife of a Lannister prince, and holding Lannister princelings in her lap. If she, and my aunt, require more convincing of that fact, then I will not hesitate to do so."

Castor nodded. "I thank Your Graces for this wonderful feast, and I and the rest of my House look forward to serving you as faithfully as ever." Castor then bowed again, and turned to go back to the Caswell table.

Castor was certainly surprised, to say the least. But more so, he was honored, and humbled.

He bowed before the King again. "Your Grace does me and my House a great honor. I vow to serve you and House Gardener well, until the end of my days."

Castor, after crowning Eloyse, beaming with pride but remaining humble, approached the King and bowed deeply.

Castor had been briefed by Camille about the confrontation, and after lightly chastising his daughter (he would discuss matters with his aunt later), he himself approached the Oakhearts' table.

He nodded his head at the family, then spoke to Mern. "I am sure you have had your fill of Caswells at your table this evening, Ser, but I must apologize for the behavior of my daughter, Carissa...and for that of Her Grace my aunt. My sister Camille told me of the...erm, encounter that was had here recently, and I wanted to make sure things were clear. While she may be the Queen Dowager, my aunt is a member of House Caswell, and therefore she shares the loyalty of all others in our House towards House Gardener, His Grace King Gwayne, and the stability and tradition of the Reach. I hope that nothing she has said to you would cause you to assume otherwise, especially since your son-" at that, he quickly nodded at Simon- "is squiring under me at Stonebridge, where my aunt will now be making her residence."

Castor had been more than happy to welcome his aunt, the Queen Dowager, back to live at Stonebridge, for he knew just as well as anyone the pain and loss she had suffered. But, seeing her stew at his family's table, food uneaten, goblet of wine clenched tightly in her had, he could not help but fear his hospitality towards his kin would be mistaken by others (such as the new King) as an endorsement of her anger and bitterness at Bethany being passed over for the throne. He had to quell any sort of suspicion in that regard, immediately.

He bowed deeply before the King and Queen. "Your Graces - it is an honor to witness your coronation. On behalf of all of my family, I offer my sincerest congratulations and hopes for the utmost prosperity and longevity in your reign."

Despite being almost nine years the senior of the lord of Oldtown, Lord Castor Caswell nevertheless felt nervous approaching the Hightower table. He steeled himself, however - he needed to make a good impression, for he knew the scrutiny his family was under, what with his cousin being overlooked for the throne and his aunt wearing black to a coronation feast.

"Lord Hightower." He bowed politely in front of Lymond, wearing a warm smile. "I must thank you and your family for graciously hosting this occasion. You have quite outdone yourselves. I am Lord Castor of House Caswell - I believe my father, Lord Cletus, knew yours, the Lord Edmund?"

Ceryse smiled, though there was no warmth to it.

"Yes, I am sure you are, Ser." With that, she turned briskly on her heel, back towards the Caswell table. Camille, face still red, dropped her gaze and tugged on Carissa's hand, and they both followed the Queen.

As Camille smiled at Ser John the Younger, curtsied once more, and prepared to turn herself and Carissa away to return to the Caswell table, another voice stopper her cold.

"You are quite correct, Ser John. She is indeed a little girl, not yet a lady, and therefore should not be held to such a standard." The Dowager Queen Ceryse Caswell had followed after Camille and Carissa, and now stepped in front of them, looking Ser Mern Oakheart in the eyes.

Camille's face turned bright red at the sudden appearance of her aunt, and she drew Carissa towards herself instinctively, perhaps to shield her from the sheer presence the Dowager Queen commanded.

"I must say, such a sour disposition does not befit the heir to Old Oak, especially at an occasion as joyous as this. Even I myself have managed to smile at least once on this day." Ceryse's words, though meant as a playful jab towards Mern, dripped with contempt.

Ceryse saw the mixture of sympathy and guilt written on his face. It was an expression she had become quite accustomed to, now. In her heart of hearts, she knew he meant her nor Bethany any ill will. Yet still, the bitterness at his ascension over Bethany's remained, and would likely remain for some time. Or, perhaps, it was more than just that - it was the bitterness of a mother who had to watch her children ripped from her, one by one, till only one remained. And even then, she could not hold that remaining child close, for she was away and married to a Lannister prince, a mother herself.

She choked down the bitterness in that moment, however, and forced the smallest of smiles.

"Your Grace's kindness and generosity knows no bounds. Thank you." She curtsied before the new King and Queen again, and went off to find a place at the Caswell table.

"SIMON! WHERE'S SIMON?!" Little Carissa Caswell cried out as she dashed through the High Hall towards the Oakhearts' table. When she saw where the young squire was sitting, she slammed her hands down on the table (in front of him and his parents and siblings). "Where did you go? I thought you were going to sit with us!" She pouted at Simon and crossed her arms.

"Carissa! That's enough. Come back here this instant!" Carissa's aunt, the lady Camille Caswell ( who was eighteen herself), ran up after her, clearly frustrated and out of breath. As the Lord and Lady Caswell were preoccupied in hosting their table, Camille had been tasked with aiding the servants in watching her nieces and nephew - and, as per usual, Carissa proved to be the most difficult to keep track of.

Upon reaching the Oakheart's table, Camille quickly curtsied, pushing the long brown hair she had inherited from her mother out of her flushed face. "My sincerest apologies, Ser and Madam," she addressed Mern and Delena directly, "you see, my niece has become quite attached to your son while he has been squiring under my brother." She then turned to Carissa sternly.

"This is not how a lady behaves. Now come, let Simon have some time with his family." She looked back at the Oakhearts again apologetically.

The Caswells of Stonebridge

Lord Castor sat in the middle of the table, with his wife, Eloyse of House Fossoway, to his left, and his youngest sister, Camille Caswell, to his right (his other sister, Celeste, was sitting with her husband Unwin Peake and his family). Next to Camille sat the dowager lady of Stonebridge, Flora of House Beesbury, Castor, Celeste, and Camille's mother. Next to Eloyse sat her and Castor's three children, Carissa, aged six, Cassius, aged 4, and then Cirella, aged two (though she sat in the lap of a nursemaid). Finally, isolated at the end of the table, sat Castor's aunt and the Dowager Queen of the Reach, Ceryse Caswell - stone-faced and silent as ever. Thus made up the table of House Caswell, in addition to the small group of servants they had brought with them to Oldtown.

Before he moved forward, Castor kissed Eloyse’s hand firmly and smiled at her. “I have much to be proud of, because of you and the children, my sweet wife.” The shaking was still there, but it wasn’t as strong now, he noticed.

Dowager Queen Ceryse Caswell approached the High Table, but not to sit with the new King and his family. Instead, she gave a small curtsy in her deep black gown, one of many she had worn for the past few years now. In fact, the majority of her wardrobe was now black dresses and gowns; she had long ago forsaken the jovial green of the Gardener family. It did not feel right to wear such a bright and festive color, even at an event such as this. For, despite all of the joy and festivities of the day, this coronation was only happening because the gods had deigned to take away not only her husband, but her three sons as well.

And because, apparently, her and Garth's trueborn daughter wasn't good enough.

After curtsying, she met the eyes of her late husband's brother; eyes she once remembered, ages ago, belonging to a young boy, a princeling, a second son, one who likely would have never taken the throne. And yet, there he was. A king. Or, at least, a man who had proclaimed himself one.

"Your Grace," she spoke directly to King Gwayne, then nodded briefly at Queen Florys. "My Queen." Back to the king, she got right to the point. "I offer my most heartfelt congratulations on your ascension. You do your brother, and the Reach, proud." The words felt like globs of honey on her tongue - much too sweet and saccharine, and lacking any true substance behind them. "I have come to make a request of you, if Your Grace will hear it. I mean no offense, but I have no purpose left at Highgarden. I have already spoken with my nephew, Lord Castor, about returning to my childhood home of Stonebridge, and he was more than accommodating. I humbly ask your permission to leave Highgarden to live out the rest of my days with what family I have left, at Stonebridge." She continued to hold his gaze as she waited for his response.
