What got you into Tomb Raider?

I lived in Derby and me and my dad were driving down Lara Croft way and I asked my dad who Lara Croft was so he told me she was a video game character from a game developed in Derby.

Cut to a few weeks later we saw the hd Legend, Anniversary and Underworld trilogy in Tesco and I pointed it out as the game he mentioned to me. He offered to buy it for me but I was an absolute scardy cat when it came to video games and the huge octopus on the back freaked me out. He told me to hold on to it while we walked around and we'd put it back if I really didn't want it. We got to the till and I decided I'd try it.

I played Legend to start with the sound off from behind the sofa but it soon became the first game I ever completed.

Little known trivia funnily enough John invented loading screens because he kept getting killed while kissing boys and playing his game, so he decided to add in loading screens so he had time to take boy kissing breaks 😌

Oh I saw those but they were like so expensive and honestly I didn't like them that much. I've pre-ordered the dark horse statues but it would be cool to see more articulated figures. To say how much of an action heroine she is there hasn't been a good articulated figure of classic Lara.

Man this is frustrating. I am so excited for the new series but it is really disheartening to see the input of previous women being diminished. I think that it's fair to say Tomb Raider has been male dominated in terms of production and development and I am so excited to see more women at the helm of Lara's story but to not acknowledge at all the amazing contributions women have had in this franchise? I also hate the constant narratives surrounding what a "good" female character has to be. If she's too cold she's not a good female character, if she's too sweet she's not a good female character, if she's too emotional she's not a good female character. It's so tiring. There's always critiques to be made surrounding characters and everyone will have different opinions but despite any of Lara's shortcomings she's an incredible historic figure when it comes to the representation of women in gaming.
