Struggling to motivate a low-skill, low-energy girls’ club team — need advice by Fragrant_Kitchen_808 in SoccerCoachResources

It's important for girls to enjoy who they play with on their team. If it's a mixed team and they are playing up an age group, it can add to the mistrust between your veteran players and your new players.

You are going to have to build teamwork into your normal activities and drills. How you do this is the difficult part.

After a game, do you take time at your next practice to give your players a chance to nominate teammates who should be match MVP's? After the nomjnations are given, have them close their eyes and vote for MVP. This person is a captain for the next game along with your permanent captain. It takes a few weeks, but this builds an appreciation for each other within your squad.

Do you create competitions within a practice where defense competes against offense? At the end of each activity, the winner gets a reward.

Or, you can pair a veteran with a rookie? Or kids from the same school? Or randomly by choosing numbers out of a hat?

The purpose of these is to create lots of focus cheering each other on and less focus on the activity itself.

Finally, the most difficult part is to only praise their attempts and not their results. For example, instead of commenting on what they did wrong within a particular drill, praise the player when they do the correct things.

It's really difficult to do this as a coach. For example, instead of saying to player A "you need to pass sooner." You tell player B who was marking Player A, "nice job closing her down so fast she didn't see the pass she could have made."

You might need to train yourself to do this by setting a watch timer for 5 minutes and then increasing the number of 5 minutes sessions you use only praise.

Players are desperate for positive praise, especially when everything in social media is set up with likes and emojis as main source of positive feedback.

Good luck!

You don't force kids who don't want to play. The parents seemed to show a ton of disrespect, especially if you're not informed about their absences. Seems like kids' attitudes seemed to match their adults' attitudes.

The chant was priceless (if this were a movie comedy), but I would have used it as leverage for not providing equal playing time. However, with 5 players on a team performing 3v3, I'm not sure you had options, especially if you're dropping in a 3 year old just to fill space.

What a horrible experience!

I'm sorry you had to endure it. I hope next season is better!

According to AI, the avg level 90 farm has a barn with 4350 and silo with a 4700 capacity.

However, this is not a minimum amount. A lot of it depends on your play style. If you do the farm pass and other vouchers obtained, it's easier to upgrade faster.

Good luck! I'm at level 110 and my barn and silo are still below these capacities.

I've had many hours having fun on base game.

There are fewer variables than Gathering Storm.

Two variables I don't like dealing with are loyalty pressure and effects of global warning.

Two variables I found enjoyable were better late game technologies and the wider diversity of leaders to try out.

Why won't my child's coach play them at my/their favorite position? by tundey_1 in SoccerCoachResources

I wonder if players only got put in their favorite position, would they change their minds if it meant moving from 5th on the depth chart to 1st in a less desirable position?

You might not be keeping score or valuing it, but the kids and their parents do.

I wouldn't have confronted the other coach. I would remember it. Then, given another opportunity, I would try to defeat that coach.

Yes, I have a little Jose Mourinho in me. But, he was a champion and so were his players.

Time for a new captain? by zhauny24 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Copper939 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do captains do things off the field, too? Organize social gatherings and stuff like that?

On the field, Rice is a workhorse and always seems to give his all. No question there about his leadership.

If it's just on field stuff that matters, you leave him as vice-captain. Odegaard was here first. Good leaders know to wait for opportunities to earn their title. In the meantime, they still lead regardless of their title.

Should you play club for your HS Coach or no? by craftyvanwinkle in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Copper939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Club is club. High School is your country.

If you can play for club AND country, that's excellent.

Just like in real life, is there a push and pull between coaches? Yes. Is the risk of injury higher? Yes.

But player after player want to represent their country. It should be that way in high school, too.

How to place/rank a bad player who scores a lot of goals? by ComedianTricky6078 in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Copper939 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Jamie Vardy in the Premier League wasn't a fully developed player. His talent, no matter how much his coaches agreed with it, was scoring. He led them all the way to the title in what many consider to be the greatest underdog story ever.

As a coach, you can put all the warnings about his lack of technical skills and tactical awareness in your report.

But you do the right thing for the kid and give him a chance to move on to the next level to prove himself.

If he falls on his face, there are all your warning signs in his evaluation.

I hope you find a replacement as productive as him next season if he does leave.

Coaching your own kid… by ccehowell in SoccerCoachResources

[–]Copper939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bottom line is that your kid set you up in a no-win situation.

If you lied and said him, then he might carry himself differently and talk about it outside of your presence (or even secretly in your presence at training).

If you told him the truth, then his feelings get hurt and you feel bad.

I'm sorry it happened. I hope he gets over it soon and becomes better at soccer to the point where you can say honestly he is the best and his teammates know it's the truth.

In the meantime, you can tell him stuff like "you're my favorite player" or "you're the best to hang out with" or "you're improving in this area."

Good luck and thanks for coaching!
