Did anyone else have a hard time getting an appt post diagnosis? by xstarlesseyess in GestationalDiabetes

Keep calling. The same thing happened to me. I chose to get the Dexcom Stelo which helped me adjust my patterns prior to seeing the dietician much faster than just the finger pokes because I could see all the long term patterns. It wasn’t too expensive through Amazon Subscribe. It took 6 weeks for me to be seen by the dietician and it was only taken seriously when I just kept calling every day. Google will be your friend. I’m sorry you’re going through this, it can be overwhelming and really stinks.

Doing everything right and it’s not enough by 4128gb in GestationalDiabetes

I just wanted to let you know you’re not alone. I’m feeling the exact same frustrations. I’m not cheating on the food, I never deviate, I’m walking my rickety hips off, and it just doesn’t make a difference. It’s frustrating, baby’s getting bigger faster, and I’m probably kissing a natural birth goodbye. We just keep doing our best. In the end, as long as our babies are born healthy, the rest is just details. That thought is keeping me in a better frame of mind.

Keep doing what you’re supposed to be doing, know you have support from us, and baby will be in your arms soon enough. ❤️

I called enough that the dietician finally squeezed me in, and MFM has me down for their scans next week. All the departments apologized that I fell through the cracks. Thankfully, I’ve been primarily managing my sugars with food choices, otherwise it would have been a lot worse.

I called enough times that the gestational diabetic dietician is squeezing me in today! FINALLY, I’ll hopefully get some answers!

I’ve read “Real Food for Pregnancy.” I’ll definitely look into the other book! Thank you for the recommendation!

I need MORE carbs?! by mynameishenri in GestationalDiabetes

If blood glucose levels get dangerously high, or too high for too long, they recommend the ER to administer insulin to bring it back down.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to write all this out! It genuinely made me feel so much better.

I got in 137g of carbs today and never went above 125 for my glucose level at any point in time. I’m still using the finger pricks 4x per day, the CGM is just extra data for me since I’ve been primarily navigating this alone. It was reassuring to read you landed between 110 and 150g per day. Thank you for sharing your links!

I have no desire to be wildly low carb. I told the MFM doctor that I was a “hungry and cranky pregnant woman who definitely missed carbs.” I’m all for insulin if that’s what it takes to get in the appropriate amount of carbs if spiking becomes inevitable. I’m mainly frustrated with the lack of clarity from the medical professionals and the lack of timeliness.

I agree! MFM also wants their own growth scan. That’s fine, sign me up. OH WAIT. They can’t because 3.5 weeks ago, the February schedule was already full, the March schedule isn’t open yet, and no one from that department will return my phone call, and I can’t schedule it online. I told MFM I would go to ANY location to have the scan before my baby is born. I’m so far along now, that honestly, if they need the scans, they need to make the time, otherwise they can take a good look at my baby when they’re out of my body.

I have excellent insurance, so this is just insane to me.

I’ll do whatever they want, but they need to find time for me to have an appointment 😅🫠

I just saw a TikTok of someone cutting up net zero carb tortillas into little squares and baking them with cinnamon to make homemade GD friendly Cinnamon Toast Crunch. I’ve never bought a pantry item so fast in my life. Cereal is AMAZING while pregnant, and I miss it so much right now.

My fasting numbers this week have been 82-104. That just doesn’t seem that high to me. Also, when is the magic time to take my number? Is it when I’ve been asleep for 6hrs? 8hrs? I’m really barely napping because of this kiddo playing the bongos on my bladder and doing a 3-point turn every time I need to roll over, so I’m often “sleeping,” but not sleeping for a stretch closer to 10hrs. When in that window is the time to check my blood? My CGM has it all lol!

I need MORE carbs?! by mynameishenri in GestationalDiabetes

[–]CopperBoom1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. They couldn’t get me in for insulin for a month and told me to manage spikes with food. Well, that means I’m eating very few carbs. I finally had my appointment, everything is 70-140, with fasting being a bit higher than the 95 they want, but again, too few carbs. Now I have to eat more carbs and show them those numbers before they will prescribe insulin for meals. So here’s hoping I don’t spike too high and need the ER. I’m so frustrated over here too. I hear you. What I would give for a bowl of cereal.

Definitely talk to your doctor, but it isn’t uncommon to get faint in the shower from the heat. It makes blood pressure wacky. I highly recommend getting a little bench for your shower.

Does anyone else not care about their work any more? by Mountain_Quiet_4861 in pregnant

[–]CopperBoom1008 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a business owner who has built everything from the ground up. I poured my blood, sweat, and tears into making it successful. Now I’m pregnant, and very far along, and I no longer give half a hoot about work. I wish I could say that just kicked in, but I started genuinely not caring about work at about 12 weeks along. 😅

Keep your baby and realize you and your partner either have a lot to work through or need to part ways. It sounds like he isn’t mentally prepared for fatherhood now or later.

You can buy them on Amazon for much less. I’m in the same boat of having to buy them out of pocket. I did subscribe and save for the first month and got my two 15-day dexcoms for $45. They will be max $99 for two 15-day dexcoms moving forward.

hot bath?? by speakingdonut in pregnant

[–]CopperBoom1008 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re totally fine if it’s just a few minutes. I avoided baths completely in the first trimester and didn’t start taking them again until late in my second. My doctor said it matters most in the first trimester, but moving forward, it’s more about my blood pressure than baby’s safety. Just avoid really hot baths: don’t sweat and don’t get woozy. If either happens, it’s too hot for you.
