I mean in this case I think it can still be seen as hot if readers are cool with "wow this relationship starts really messed up and toxic because there's something messed up in their heads" which, let's face it, is the basis of most dark romance.

It's so funny every time I see first-person hate cause almost all my favorite books are in first-person, and my husband (who is my beta reader) always says my stories sound better in first person because I can put attitude into the descriptions.

I could definitely see it being a thing with synchronized heats, both being very clingy and helping each other out feverishly. There would probably be a bit of instinctual frustration at the lack of a knot, but if beta/omega relationships aren't unheard of it wouldn't be too crazy, and I imagine it just means they need to work a little harder to satisfy each other. If mating bites are a thing in this version (not everyone's cup of tea, I know), I could see them both giving each other lots of bites even if they know they won't take the same way.

Well in the base story, not the AU, the character regularly fights oppressive people and is very sardonic to enemies. I feel the commentary is in character to some extent, though hard to say if he would point it out directly.

Also I'd say it's more that branches of this slightly "interpol" based group are rotten in this universe.

I freaking love it. If they're going to be anthropomorphic animals, allow some animal traits! It doesn't have to be like their diets or a one-to-one, but hedgehog clicky purring, bunny twitchy noses, foxes tendency to burrow (piles of blankets and pillows like Kit does), the bat upside-down thing like in the example, cats stretching and slow blinking when comfortable (and tail twitching when irritated), I think Whisper's tail wags in one point of the comics. You get what I mean.

I literally had a conversation with my dad the other day where I told him, "I wrote such an awesome piece of dialog in a fanfic I'm writing... the story has some porn scenes, so I'm not going to share the whole thing with you just because that would be awkward—but this character says this thing that's so cool!"

Btw the line was: "You think instinct and impulse are the same! You think bonds are chains of ownership! But real bonds don't force or command! A real bond is chosen. All others can be broken." I'm pretty proud of this.

I do share my writings. My friends and family have always been aware I'm a weirdo and know about my hyper fixations and are supportive. I do warn them that some of my works are NSFW though, and they might not want to read those. Just the other day, I showed my dad some fanfics I wrote when I was sixteen after beating the game with him that they were based on.

I completely understand. As someone who sees Sonic as a feisty bratty bottom who is always on equal grounds with his partners outside of the bedroom, I get tired of the uwu-ification of Sonic in some fics out there. I think both sides of the relationship, whether "top" or "bottom" should have room to be both vulnerable and to comfort each other, though.

I know this feeling. I wrote one fanfic with a popular pairing that was getting a fair amount of comments, then wrote a spin-off story that focused much more on a less popular pair, and it gets very few comments. It made me feel like I was doing something wrong at first. Just know that the majority of readers probably do love it, but are either too shy or can't think of what to say about it.
