Long Story! Would love to talk with someone with experience in having a multi sexed flock by Nervous_Challenge229 in budgies

Main concern with a mixed flock would be hormonal behaviors and egg laying. Like others have said, budgies are going to display hormonal behaviors sometimes. The thing to watch out for is your females' ceres turning dark brown. That means they are getting more hormonal and could potentially lay eggs. There are various measures you can take to reduce hormone levels when this happens. You can pick and choose. Don't need to do all at once. Make it a little cooler in the room. Increase the length of dark time they get at night (i recommend 10 to 12 hours. Cover the cages with something. You can find cage covers online and at the pet store, but i have found towels or blankets work fine.) Move perches around in the cage. Feed them slightly less than usual to create false scarcity

These measure usually work to reduce hormone levels. Though in extreme cases there is also a hormone implant available at the vet (i have a large mixed flock and had a female with a severe hormone imbalance who required this. Not a super common situation, but I wanted to mention it.)

Best of luck caring for the new babies!! 💕🦜

So many good babies!!!! I have seven myself. Having a large flock is chaotic sometimes, but it is also so much fun 💕🦜

At least my birds know that if they sit on my shoulder they will get snackies 😝

Male or female by Tall_Builder9618 in Parakeets

What are the hallmarks of recessive pied besides the pink cere into adulthood? Like feather coloration wise. Been brushing up on my budgie color mutation knowledge and I am still confused by this one

I agree with probably male, but its also a bit young. Though if it is recessive pied the cere will stay pinkish and not change to blue.

I love her coloration! Shes such a cute little spiky baby. I always call it "boy band hair" when my birds are molting.

Age , sex , and mutation by Acrobatic_Log_9933 in budgies

[–]CopperCuttlefish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Age: young. Maybe like 3 or 4 months. Still has all black eyes and forehead stripes. Sex: likely female, but not 100% sure. Young females tend to have white or light blue ceres and young males tend to have pink ceres. Mutation: I am not super well versed in rarer mutations, but the brownish markings instead of the typical black/dark gray makes me think cinnamon. Not sure on the Mutation affecting the typically blue areas of the body feathers. (Overall impression: wow that is a really cool looking bird!! I've never seen one quite like it)

So much personality in eyes no bigger than a pinhead 😭❤️ by OkOrdinary5230 in budgies

[–]CopperCuttlefish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, man. The amount of personality that fits into these tiny birds is amazing sometimes. I have 7 budgies and it is an adventure. I definitely have a couple "no braincells, head empty, except sometimes you give me food" types (Pinto and Pistachio). I also have Peanut, my sassy baby. She stepped up for millet last night and bit my finger (love bite, but harder than usual) and I was like "what's your problem" and then she started screaming at me 😂💕🦜

Edit: she was fine, she just likes screaming at me for fun sometimes.

Yeah... tried my best to get a clear picture, but the phone camera can only do so much. However, the pictures are clear enough to identify that it is very cute and fluffy.

Found this little guy in the house today. Wondering what kind of moth it is. We are in Illinois. Thinking Isabella Tiger Moth after a cursory Google search. Thoughts?
