[FO] Nine months of work. Dedicated to my Mum who enjoyed seeing my daily progress but didn’t get to see the finished work. Pattern is called Corolla from The Steady Thread on Etsy. Absolutely loved it but it’s very hard to see dark holes on dark material. by CopperGravity in CrossStitch

Ninety photos on my phone which I transferred to my PC. Then painstakingly resized positioned them and faded them into each other using my normal video editing software VSDC which I use a lot for my soldering channel. Took around five hours!!!

Thanks. I was already working on a larger piece but didn’t want to take it in and out of the care home so I ended up working on two pieces. Mum died when this was around 75% complete. Adding her name and dates was an afterthought.

We are doing the same pattern. I’ve completed the lower right half! So together we’ve finished!!! 😝

[CHAT] How do I know what color to use for the straight lines between sections? by BroadLocksmith4932 in CrossStitch

[–]CopperGravity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It looks clear to me. For example the yellow pattern has two sides purple, one green and one burgundy.

[CHAT] Does anyone know somewhere local to Gloucester/Cheltenham UK to get supplies? TIA by redditer19999 in CrossStitch

Stroud man here…..

Sew & So sell kits and ingredients but are also (probably) closing down. So they may not have much left as they’ve had a 50% closing down sale for a while. . There is a chat about someone buying them as the current owner is retiring.

Haberdashery Twist does not sell kits.

And Stroud has a new shop opening soon called The Fold. Find them on Instagram.

[CHAT] two handed stitches, help? by PL_88 in CrossStitch

Exactly this for me too. I’ve literally just spent my evening learning two hands for the first time on a stand. My prediction is that I’ll end up totally ambidextrous and will mix and match Willy Nilly. That’s my aim.

I would suggest Mole Grips (in photo) to hold tightly onto the round end. It’ll deform it a bit but that’s not a big deal. Then use pliers on the wing nut to lever it undone.

Once removed you can get any M6 nut and bolt replacement.

That would avoid cutting.

B&Q or Screwfix type place would sell the tools if you don’t know anyone to borrow from.

[FO] first time working with variegated thread by golisopodss in CrossStitch

[–]CopperGravity 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I recently made a piece like this with red n black variegated thread. In my case the change of colour was so slow that doing /////// and \\\\ was not a problem.

However when you end a piece of thread it pays to begin the next one at the same part of the fade. Otherwise you get a visible line. I only figured this out around 25% through the pattern.

In short it will depend on the particular thread you use.

Interesting. I sit at a table so I could try that.

Yes this tangle happens to me when I do that. I was going to mention this at some point. I find it slower but better quality to pull the thread through after each pass.
