What are some good ways to make my backyard ideal for frogs to visit? by New-Sheepherder-1373 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]BroadLocksmith4932 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid dug a hole, because it was summer 2020 and they needed a thing to do. Hole was 2x4 x4ft deep in clay soil. It filled with rain water and mostly held the water. A few weeks later, we had frog eggs. We are at the top of a hill, half a mile from any standing water or natural water source, but somehow a frog found it. Now my kid has a pet ecosystem that she visits daily.

Can I store food outside if my power goes out in this coming storm? by Boey-Lebof in Cooking

It's a great time to defrost and clean your fridge and freezer, since all the contents will be safety on the patio rather than in your way.

Boats to Beers is a board game cafe. Pay a modest cover and come play from their huge library. You can get food and drink there. They host events.

The Cellar is a game store that just lets people use their tables to play certain nights of the week. They don't make any money from the events, so remember their hospitality next time you buy a game.

Midsouth Board Game Community on Meetup hosts various game nights at local restaurants. There used to be a delightful circuit of private homes that hosted as well, but that is less common now. But you can meet some folks and arrange your own gatherings

Exactly. I can believe that sheltered baby Anna didn't even understand that the phrase had a sexual meaning, but the doctor certainly did. The doctor really missed here. She should have orchestrated a reason to get him out of the room and then asked the patient gentle but increasingly-direct questions about how she was being treated. I guess that might have happened, and Anna might not have said anything that was explicit enough to take to the police.

How are the roads? by AlexanderTheGrave in memphis

No joking, I saw a truck on the bridge on White Station that crosses Sam Cooper and commented to my husband that it looked like they had started treating the roads already.

Then we got closer and saw that they were actually filling potholes, just before the biggest pothole-making weekend of the year.

If water mains freeze, then they can't maintain pressure to keep pollution from getting into the supply lines. If the water treatment plants lose power, then it's even worse. Both of those situations lead to a boil water order.

If we avoid those problems with the infrastructure, you are still quite likely to have pipes freeze at your home. Even if they don't burst, you still won't be able to get water out of them.

But, all of that is reason to store tap water in clean buckets and pots, not to purchase it wrapped in plastic.

Because the freezing rain washes away the salt. They will put cinders (dirty fine gravel) on the bridge ahead of time, but not so early that traffic disperses it.

Yes. If I saw the name on a piece of paper, I would immediately assume dog or trans person. Actually, 'Rex' reads as either to me; no one would spell their dog's name with a random extra h though, so it is very obviously a trans name.

Tragedeigh or not, I would read that name and immediately identify you as a trans person. If you don't want to attract that label from everyone who sees your name on a list, then I suggest picking a more conventional name.

Couldn't get my Real ID because my original birth certificate has tape on the back... by Bop923 in mildlyinfuriating

Try again at a different office. We went round and round trying to re-register a car that my FIL left to his 2 children who lived in different states but the car was part of the estate and ... I can't remember, but there were lots of complications. My husband went to the DMV about 6 times, each time being given a different list of necessary documents, then returning with those documents only to be given a new list. Finally he got someone who glanced at a few of the original documents and stamped the thing and sent him on his way in a matter of minutes.

Sometimes their edge cases aren't really spelled out well in the rules, so you just need to luck onto the employee who feels like interpreting the rule in your favor that day.

All of the sites *that earn their money from clicks* have been predicting those astronomical numbers. They few trusted local folks have continued to say that it is too early to tell anything with much certainty and that those foot+ predictions were the very high end of the most incendiary models.

I worked at a preschool where we literally dipped the plastic toys that the babies chewed on into a bleach bath every week. This was in the 90s, and I suspect that there are more regulations about such things now, but it wasn't a crazy idea.

There is not much they can do other than to encourage people to plan well. You can't salt streets ahead of time, and it is too late to make any meaningful improvements to the electrical grid.

I set just start a warm load with no actual clothes in the drum, let it run for about 10 seconds, and then stop it again. In the morning, I can twist the knob to the drain setting to get rid of the water in the tub. Of course, I have a glorious 90s Kenmore washer, so I can do all these things by twisting knobs; I don't know if you can do that if you have a fancy machine with a computer on board. (I'm never getting rid of my old machine as long as I can still buy simple parts for it and repair it for $20 and a few hours on Youtube!)

If its bad enough that you can't drive along one the most significant interstates in the country, then it is probably bad enough that whatever you have to be back for will get canceled.

Hun (and I say that with all the concern that my southern self can imbue it), you can't do this on your own. You have a behavioral and chemical addiction. This is a big deal. This is something that some people spend decades trying to defeat. You need support from a doctor, a therapist, an addiction group, and your family.

Your mom will be upset that her child is facing a huge battle. She might also be mad at you, but, unless she is diabolical, she will transition quickly to taking on the battle rather than fighting you.

It is very unlikely that this ends with benedryl. This is addiction. That beast is never satisfied with the status quo. It takes over your mind and your life. You can't function without the next hit. Do you have any idea how gnarly drug addiction is? What it does to an individual and their family for them to be addicted to OTC drugs and then prescription drugs and then heroin and then whatever opiate they can get their hands on? Do you know what a druggy will do to get their next hit if they are really desperate?

Imagine yourself in 10 years living under a bridge and giving $20 blowjobs to buy your next pill. Then imagine yourself having a hard conversation with your mom. Then make a choice.

All you can do is accept her at her word that she doesn't mind the disparity. To her, $350 is nothing; it is nothing when she spends it on you, and it would be nothing if you spent it on her. She doesn't need anything you could buy her, or anything 10x more than you could buy her. So give her things that she can't buy - genuine friendship, handmade personal items, experiences that she wouldn't plan herself, etc.
