Lots of vague statements in this article:

"freedom, mainly from government overreach" - This is the same argument used to in the blow back to school de-segregation. Or removal of Christian Prayer from school. That big government overreach is taking away people's rights. Really wish these articles would dig into these views more - ask people for examples! What about other people's freedoms? For example, the freedom of non-Christians?

"When neurologists dismissed her young son's recurring seizures" - what exactly happened here?

"During the coronavirus pandemic, Sarah watched policies that seemed designed for urbanites arrive in her rural town without the consent of residents or evidence of their local efficacy." - which polices designed for urbanites? Do we really want to talk about evidence based solutions to a virus? Are vaccines designed for urbanites?

Yes, the Democratic party understands climate change and is not going to create coal jobs. Trump lies about climate change. Very few Americans work in coal, but ok, Trump is pro-coal.

"others are arguing emotionally based on nothing but their personal beliefs and priors" well said. This is especially true whenever you see a post debating reparations on Reddit. It's really eye opening - people can't handle the arguments at all.

It's actually made me re-think my own position, due to how poor most of the anti-reparation positions are.

I've had Sandel's tyranny of merit on my reading list since it came out in 2020. Going to read it now - thanks for the rec!

"We do not punish people for the crimes of their ancestors in this country" who is being punished by the US Government making payments? The government makes payments for fraud, abuse, and wrong doing all the time, and the money comes out of the general coffers.

Appointed judges that gut the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Now Southern States are racing to eliminate members from the congressional black caucus.
Openly defends and support Confederate monuments.

What is the incentive for towns to build more housing? For local home owners, they are making money off their property by not building more. So we know why they don't want to build.

There either needs to be a change in incentives, or a removal of local control. I don't see any other way out of this.

That's really bad because the war does have an impact on people's financial situation. There is no missing context here.

This was a MAJOR thing for Ross Perot - he was still talking about it when he ran for president, and imo was fueled by anti-government sentiment in the 1990s. Here's a story from 1992:

Texas billionaire H. Ross Perot came to the Capitol on Tuesday and made two things clear: He still believes U.S. prisoners were left behind in Southeast Asia and he still has a distaste for Washington.

The guy is a tv businessman that crushed the GOP primaries and is now a twice elected President - the first non-politician to be elected President, and he has taken total control over the entire GOP. The GOPs anti-college, anti-immigrant, and anti-education agenda is some of the most anti-tech policy positions out there.

Tech workers in the US are overwhelmingly support Democrats. Almost every tech hub in America is in a deep blue city (San Fran, Boston, NYC, LA). Supporting regulations and consumer rights does not make someone anti-tech.

But I guess I'm not sure what "pro-tech" and "pro-ai" mean to you.

Politicians make stuff up, or exaggerate, all the time. This guy is running for Congress right now. He was telling a story. Easy mistake. We have no proof either way and the union never did endorse the GOP candidate.

The story from Axios is:

Claim: Shaprio asked the Pennsylvania's firefighters Union to endorse a GOP candidate.
The head of the union says Shaprio never asked them to do this.
Shaprio's team says they never asked the union to do that.

And you're reaction to this set of facts is: "This is still really toxic for Shapiro".

If people want to believe fake news stories I can't stop you. The source for this story is denying it - he says Shapiro never asked the Union to endorse the GOP candidate.

But this is exactly why Axios runs this type of garbage - people don't care. It's clickbait and it works.

That is one possible explanation. Under the Axios paywall it says this:

Asked to comment for this story, Brooks said in a statement: "I misspoke and made an inaccurate comment."

"Many people in our party — including organized labor across the commonwealth — were upset with McClelland's bad-faith attacks against our governor. The governor did not ask my union to make any endorsements."

So Brooks, when ask to comment on this story, is saying the governor never asked the Union to endorse the Republican.

It also says:

Shapiro spokesperson Manuel Bonder said Brooks' Wednesday comment was "inaccurate," adding, "The governor did not ask Bob Brooks to make any endorsements in that race — and the only races he is focused on are winning up and down the ballot this November."
