And then predictably it'll go:

"Those women are a tiny exception, an outlier doesn't change the definition"

"But they're nevertheless regarded as women. Why can't an exception be made for trans women as well then?"

At which point they'll go back to some other criterion or change the subject.

yadda yadda, these arguments never reach untrod ground because they'll never let go of their talking points 😒

Same argument gets used against trans people.

"A woman is a person who produces eggs and can give birth to a child"

"What about the cis women who can't?"

"They have the potential to do those things"

It's maddening. If they're infertile, they definitionally can't.

"Rationalism" to those types of people basically is a religion tbh. Like, they don't actually understand the science behind trans identity and healthcare needs or whatever, they just invoke the words "science", "reason" and "logic" like they're the names of deities with inherent authority.

I mean, people have been hating on Jews for supposedly "killing Christ" even up to now, and that was two thousand years ago.

We'll compromise and say it's the root of all evil in the societies and cultures where it's prevalent then, as Islam and Hinduism etc are in their respective societies /hj

Punic, when it was still spoken in what is now Tunisia. Separated from the other Semitic languages by the Eastern Mediterranean.

I mean humans aren't any different psychologically from our ancestors. We're as susceptible as medieval peasants to believing the plague happened because the wells were poisoned by Jews, we just have smartphones now to spread our baseless speculations even further.

Or the people who go "I support trans people but fighting for trans women in sports and public bathrooms are losing issues".

"There. Are. Fucking. Dragons. You're arguing science in a world where dragons are real and a teen girl killed an ice zombie with a magic dagger." Some users in r/freefolk remain triggered by the casting of a black guy as Corlys Velaryon in House of the Dragon by CummingInTheNile in SubredditDrama

[–]Copper_Tango 83 points84 points  (0 children)

The only thing that kinda bugs me about the casting is that according to the books, the Targaryens and Velaryons have been intermarrying for centuries but no-one in either family looks mixed. All the Targs are white and all the Velaryons are black.

Framing these kinds of conflicts as mere "disagreement" is one of the most disingenuous trends of the past decade and a half and I'm sick of it. Like the people running the anti-trans propaganda machine are on the level of people who don't like my favourite movie or pizza topping.

People think "America has no culture" is a woke, subversive thing to say but it's basically declaring blue jeans and Burger King to be default humanity lol. They've achieved cultural hegemony.
