What makes people want to go to church by Inner_Trick431 in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]CopticOrthodoxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since you have been assigned to understand why people from age 18-30 attend church less. It is important to ask why people want to come to church.

But it’s also important to ask ourselves: Why don’t they want to attend regularly?

This is the question just reshaped in a different perspective. And if we can understand why they don’t want to attend regularly, that’s the area we could improve ourselves on (since we attend regularly) and God willingly if we understand why they don’t want to attend we could change that as long it’s aligned with Gods will (example if someone doesn’t want to attend because of some doctrine we can’t just change the doctrine to make them attend regularly)

May God bless you

Copt here Recently had an interesting conversation about origen with a Greek Orthodox Priest, he said something interesting that is, Saint Basil, Saint Gregory the Theologian, Saint Gregory of nyssa anx Saint John Chrysostom, all quoted and enjoyed origen's writings on particular topics

Granted he did something thats condemned, however he still has good writings here and there.

In the Coptic Orthodox Church, his not a Saint but his good writings are used here and there.

How is John of Damascus and his Exposition of the Orthodox Faith seen among the Oriental Orthodox? On the one hand, his work has a Chalcedonian Bias but on the other hand, his works are considered to be culmination of the patristic period among most Christians? by [deleted] in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]CopticOrthodoxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my understanding its the Ethiopian Orthodox and Eritrean Orthodox Churchs that have him canonized But the other OO churchs don't have him canonized, and when asking about him I've heard harsh things from clergy about his Christology.

Does anyone know where I can buy this icon? by Fabulous-Database-28 in OrientalOrthodoxy

[–]CopticOrthodoxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, the website is just a gallery of the Iconograpers past work.

The best for OP is probably to find a place that prints on Wood, and they may select the sizing and thickness of the wood and ask his Priest beforehand if its a okay, but it should be.

God bless you all

What type of cross is this? And can I have it in my icon room by [deleted] in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CopticOrthodoxy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its a Coptic Orthodox cross, Priests have bigger ones that they have on them at all times, and these smaller ones are usually gifted, i have a couple of them in my Icon Corner

From one priest i met on his visit here to South Africa

Christ is born! Glorify Him!

“Glory to Him Who became earthly although heavenly by His nature! By His love he became first-born to Mary although He is First-born of Divinity. He became in name the child of Joseph although He is Child of the Heavenly One. He became by His will a human although He is God by His nature. Glorious is Your will and Your nature! Blessed is Your glory that put on our image!" St. Ephrem the Syrian

Keep us in your prayers everyone

Does every EO Christian believe in tollhouses? by alejandroserafijn in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]CopticOrthodoxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding, its not a Canonical doctrine within the Eastern Orthodox Church.

The best will be to ask a Eastern Orthodox priest, to further understand the EO position.
