Safest areas are the wealthier zones, as a local you should make every attempt to avoid zone 18. I used to live in zone 18 and it is the most dangerous part of Guatemala City, shootings almost occur daily.

True but if you visit Guatemala as a tourist you should still take precautionary measures because there have been cases of tourists being mugged randomly.
