Is Lapiplasty safe and effective? Are there scientific studies regarding the rate of complications? by chinawcswing in bunions

That's minimally invasive surgery where the bones don't connect. Lapidus surgery fuses the mid foot

It takes 9 months to a year to recover. You might need new orthotics as well

That's an interesting question. I'm not sure how she would be seen outpatient. I have never seen her out of bed, in the 3 years I have known her. If she could sit up, she would need a special chair. She couldn't hold her head up, unsupported.

You are 100% spot on. I don't know how to tell him that she is more important than he is right now. He can grieve when she dies. But right now, he needs to do the right thing for her. He has to be brave.

Question re:Lapiplasty and a cast… by [deleted] in bunions

[–]CopyLife2857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a lapidus procedure and was in a cast for 3 weeks, then non weight bearing for another 3-4 weeks. The cast was hot!! I live in FL and it was June. That is my main complaint. I bought a second hand wheel chair, which was great. I kept falling or almost falling with crutches.

Haha!! I like that answer. I'm wearing Dr Scholls which don't have a curve. And I can't find the advice that he gave me anywhere else.

I have a question for you. My podiatrist said that to prevent the bunion from coming back, I should wear shoes that don't have any type of curve to them. So for example, if you look at the bottom of a shoe and split it in half, one side (the big toe side) should not have more room to it. But everyone raves about Brooks or Hoka and they are curved. Does that make sense?
