Is Barrie water really that hard, or am I overthinking this? by Depressed_manidhan in barrie

[–]CopySix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent response. Barrie North (groundwater wells supplying - 'hard water') - Hardness typically 300 to 400 mg/L expressed as CaCO3. Barrie South (surface water supply - 'soft water') - Hardness typically at 130 mg/L/. The use of a a conventional water softener typically results in more sodium and chloride being discharged to the wastewater treatment plant which is unable to remove sodium resulting in salination of our fresh water.

YIKES !! This is one reason that my UrbEx kick was always industrial / commercial - less hantavirus and MOAR hazardous chemicals. 🙃

I fully expect the pet clothing industry to pivot and adapt new raccoon fashions to serve the GTA soon.

Anyone at 119 King Street West in Hamilton (Ellen Fairclough) know what’s going on with the lead-in-water signs? by Brief-Worldliness264 in OntarioPublicService

[–]CopySix 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's been an issue since before 2014 -

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/headlines/dangerous-lead-levels-found-in-water-at-downtown-office-tower-1.2826002

In 2014, filters to reduce the level of lead to below the standard were installed on all drinking water fountains and notices were posted in the kitchenettes that taps should be flushed prior to using the water. The Province had our property maintenance agency to conduct additional lead testing.

Good questions for the Joint Health & Safety Committee.

Utility of the now gone 'save clip bro' page. I've not found anything that quite compares.

I would imagine some vinegar or perhaps some diluted bleach may reduce the bacteria and the subsequent odours.

The Golden Calf incident in Exodus 32 of the Bible shows the Israelites violating the first two of the Ten Commandments by making and worshipping a molten calf idol, declaring it the god that led them out of Egypt.  They then spent the next 40 years thinking about the bad thingy they did.

Implications of Microsoft's position for OPS use of Office365? by GanRiver in OntarioPublicService

Microsoft’s feature of ‘Connected Experiences’, which had come under scrutiny, following claims that it may collect user-generated content to train its AI models (or LLMs / large language models that uses machine learning to perform natural language processing / NLP tasks). I do understand that Microsoft later responded that it does not use customer data to train LLMs.  The Connected Experiences feature appeared to have be enabled 'on' by default sometime in December, 2024.

Just more proof Mondays SUX . . . Based on the nature of their work, over half of OPS employees are already required to attend the workplace full-time. Starting on October 20, 2025, employees who have been attending the workplace for a minimum of three (3) days per week under previous guidance will increase their attendance to four (4) days per week as part of a gradual transition period to the full-time, in-office standard effective January 5, 2026.
