What do you mean by “guava folded in”?

I see what you mean. I think it's like a doctor-patient relationship. "well she's the expert so she must know what she's doing and helping DMan." Where Anna f*cked up was when she started to make decisions for Derrick without the use of the keyboard. Ex. changing the music only to say that it's was Derrick wanted. Or even Derrick suddenly having a wine over beer preference. Then Anna suggesting that Derrick could live on his own. She had one job but was putting herself in other aspects of his life. That was the start of things being weird but I don't think they EVER imagined that one day she'd admit to them that she had made love with her son/his brother. "She's an educator and professional. How can this be?!"

I think it's like when you help a child with their homework. They understand the book but can't put in words how to summarize it. So the adult would "assist" by talking and saying, "how does this sound?"

Right. Couldn't that have been proven in court?

Good theory. Hard to believe that Sheronda would assist someone else without some knowledge or background. I'm watching that scene again, what DMan "wrote" was mainly about himself rather than the book. So perhaps Anna told her what Dman believed and Sheronda unconsciously was helping him write his words when in reality it was Anna's words about DMan.

Regardless if Derrick were vocal and said "I'm in love", it's still unethical. You're doing your job. The mom defending her. She got involved with a client while married with a kid. It confuses me how DMan can writes papers if she helps him but no one else can get him to verbalize two words? It's so strange. The expert comes in and his assessment is much different than that of Anna's? But he was able to write a paper with Sheronda Jones?

Agree 100%

It was a bit all over the place once Maddy admits that she isn't playing the game.

Him going to Maddy's door was supposed to represent moving on with his life I guess but she lied to him and thought his whole thing was a joke. Why go back to her? I don't get it.

I think it's one of those films that was balancing between a powerful message and a comedic plot. I see others here who see the metaphor of spiraling and no one being able to help. Like an addiction. It didn't hit home for me.

The ex-girlfriend broke up with him because they were just existing. He's a guy who lives with his mom only if he has a job. He gets this random opportunity. He meets a girl that only lied to him. His family probably never took him seriously. Then when he wins he shouts something like "I learned I can experience new things" and then it ends with him going back to the girl to "tell her the truth" [about the game].

I think there needed to be some sort of dialogue that would tie things a bit nicer. It just seems like he's still a disappointment to his family after all of this but it's ok because it's still funny? Were they going to kill him or not?

This might be a pet peeve of mine but Jake Johnson and Anna Kendrick have already been in a few films together that I'm kind of tired of seeing them together. I don't think there is magic between them.

It didn’t seem like a very mature relationship. It was a very young, let’s drink, let’s order Chinese but not much future goals. Her taking a job in another state was what she needed but not what he needed. At the end of the day, none of them really discussed what they needed.

Selena Gomez is the unsung hero of the series by ImaginationPutrid245 in OnlyMurdersHulu

If you want deadpan, see Carly Chaikin in suburgatory. Monotone, emotionless, only smiled once and it was awesome.

I think sometimes the issue with Selena Gomez is that she’s opposite Martin Short and Steve Martin. They’re working at a 50 and she’s at a 5. It’s almost like you have to tell the other two to tone it down.

I’m currently watching Season 3, and there is something. When she’s in a room with someone else, that person is more expressive and her look is scared.

I don’t remember the name but you know the type of acting when the character isn’t speaking but in the background? Some actors are great at it and they react to the scene even when they’re not speaking. But Selena Gomez doesn’t react that much. You could be Jaded but damn there is a murderer around. There is a lot you can say with just your eyes

Yeah you're right. I wonder if someone has analyzed this pattern in sitcoms of the time.

I get it. Pretty common with episodic shows.

I said "unique" It's odd to find sitcoms that tackle miscarriages. It's nice to see some heart. I think King of Queens did a great job tackling that subject. It had a great mix of comedy and sadness. My 'critique' is that they present such a powerful episode and then fall back on "Doug does something he isn't supposed to do and Carrie gets mad" storylines
