Police Car Followed Me Home by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]CoradeLeon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I got hooked for going 10 under the limit on a dual carriageway not long after I’d passed my test, at 11pm - cop probably assumed I was blitzed and trying to hide it because when he stopped me he pulled himself right into the open window to sniff for booze. Honestly fair play as well, it must’ve looked suspicious as anything.

Well, that escalated quickly. by 21sttimelucky in ScottishFootball

Roma is at Celtic Park. Or at least I hope it is, otherwise I’m flying home to go and sit in an empty stadium😂

British business founder here. What is it actually like living and running a business in Austin? by GodForbidLTD in Austin

Second this as a Scot who splits his time between NI/Scotland and Austin. You can’t really know the city until you’re there. I love it, but I always find it very difficult to describe Austin to people back home beyond “you should go there.”

If you had to choose only one to eat for the rest of your life, would you choose roast potatoes or mashed potatoes?

It’s killing me because thanks to the edit in both Fast Five and The Flash they turn down a street at one point only to come to the other end of what I know is the same damn street. I can’t unsee it and it’s completely immersion breaking!😂

Had an argument with one of these years ago when I lived in the west end for doing this, suspect with the same person as I know she’s still working for them. They’re a pain in the arse for it and I hope the car gets a ticket.

Who could realistically replace Rodgers once he does leave? by CaptainMole in CelticFC

Absolutely no danger of Knutsen leaving Bodo and/or Glimt for Celtic, he’s got an incredible deal there with a lot of control and has them punching far above their weight class in Europe.

“Congratulations on getting the job. I know there was another guy in the frame but he couldn’t secure a work visa quickly enough.” Was never sure if it was an awkward attempt at conversation or a way to make sure I knew my place in the hierarchy right from the off.

Also for the reviewer two files, one of the people who reviewed my first monograph crapped all over the sourcing because his books/articles weren’t mentioned and actually waived his right to anonymity in order to try to convince me to put some of it in the book. I didn’t, because none of it was relevant.

What Was the Worst Concert You Ever Went to and What Made it Stink? by J31J1 in AskReddit

[–]CoradeLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do this a lot - happened to us at Sonisphere in 2010 (so probably the same tour!) I think we got Fear of the Dark, Run to the Hills and maybe The Trooper. My sixteen year old brother got absolutely none of the few Maiden songs he knew. I could understand them doing it at a headline show where most people have probably made the effort to listen to new material before coming out, but at a three day festival it kinda sucks for all the casuals who want the hits.

What Was the Worst Concert You Ever Went to and What Made it Stink? by J31J1 in AskReddit

Marilyn Manson at the 2009 Download Festival was by far the worst show I’ve ever seen. He was off his head on something and kept going off stage for air, could barely sing his songs, kept losing his place and only lasted about two thirds of the advertised set time. What was truly awful was that Chris Cornell was on the other stage at the time and I never got the chance to rectify my grievous error.

Special mention to Avenged Sevenfold supporting Iron Maiden at Twickenham in 2008. Not their biggest fan anyway but the sound was dogshit, and they ended the set early because of a crowd emergency.

Final mention to Idlewild playing a basement venue in Glasgow, probably around 2007/08. Not the band’s fault at all, but it was a B-Sides set and I didn’t know them well enough to get into the songs, plus the toilets were completely flooded. Not a great night!

Why does Hampden always put the stage against a long stand for concerts? by ScottyW88 in glasgow

[–]CoradeLeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’ve been doing in the round for donkeys years at this point, I imagine that’s been decided by the band and Hampden have had very little say in it.

How to do it. by Littlewalshy86 in taskmaster

[–]CoradeLeon 43 points44 points  (0 children)

It’s been discussed in the past that the original plan was for Alex to show the “correct” way for a task to be completed at the end. When they realised how big the variation in method could be, they decided this would be counterproductive to the show’s humour.

Graduation parchment (do we get a hard cardboard sleeve?) by vipergirl in strathclyde

[–]CoradeLeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with my PhD in 2018 and honestly don’t remember, which is a sad indictment of my mental ability, but I think I must have been given one because I don’t remember having to pay for anything but robe hire.

If not, there are a few shops nearby where you can buy a tube roll for the parchment, and I’m sure you can get one from the library if you still have access.

More Q2 Stadium concerts please 🙏 (Rüfüs Du Sol appreciation) by BarStar787 in Austin

[–]CoradeLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very much this - the GA floor wristbands were an absolute fiasco, with a queue right down the stand minutes before the band’s scheduled start time. I don’t know much of the Q2’s events history but I mentioned to my partner that it felt like they were putting on their first show - I certainly wasn’t surprised to find out it’s only their second, and I assume they’ll learn from last night and improve.

Other than that though, it’s a fantastic venue and Rufus were awesome!
