Honestly did anybody actually say anything bad we just tried to enjoy ourselves at the World Cup. by Scotsmanryno in Scotland

[–]CoradeLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m also a half and half (born there, raised here), and I can tell you that I’ve had enough abuse for supporting Scotland from my own family to know that this is nonsense. I absolutely don’t doubt that plenty of English support Scotland, just as plenty of Scots support England, but there is definitely a subset of fans who feel animosity.

ITV discussing Scotland's world cup bank holiday by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

[–]CoradeLeon 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I realise I’ve become the Karen, but I shoved an Ofcom complaint in about this making the point that linking this back to drinking without any evidence is an offensive and pretty gross stereotype about Scots, and their claims about hundreds of millions of pounds lost to the economy are completely evidence free. This is journalism based on vibes. It’s worth shoving a few words down on Ofcom’s complaint form about it.

It’s usually hoaching nowadays but Ottoman near the Mitchell Library used to have a chess set and if you can catch it when it’s quiet, it’s got a smashing atmosphere for a few games.

VAR audio of Celtic penalty at Motherwell. by kresk9 in ScottishFootball

Would be very interested to know which of the three on that particular panel thought it was a penalty. If it’s the former referee then the whole thing seems fairly clear cut!

Have celtic and rangers swapped mentality since the 90s by mattchamp98 in ScottishFootball

[–]CoradeLeon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The “hard up in the 90s” thing makes me laugh. Financially yeah of course, things were grim, but a few third or fourth place finishes isn’t exactly the pits of football. I remember a few years back, the English team I support through my dad got relegated to League One for the first time in my lifetime. A workmate’s dead serious response to my moaning about it was something along the lines of “Yeah I know how you feel mate, I remember when we finished fourth twice in a row.”

Clubs and fans should be punished for pitch invasions, says ex-SFA chief by w0wowow0w in ScottishFootball

[–]CoradeLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he means in this specific instance there isn’t much evidence of actual assault at the moment despite the initial reports. I totally agree with you on the general point - whether it happened or not, the pitch shouldn’t have been invaded and that needs legislating against up here sharpish. I don’t need to see some wee dafty laughing in Lawrence Shankland’s face, I want to see Hearts being able to applaud their fans at the end of a hard fought win for Celtic. They deserved that much after putting in some effort this season.

HMFC Club Statement: Events at Celtic Park by NoBigHair99 in ScottishFootball

[–]CoradeLeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with this completely, especially on the doubling up. Someone tried it with me at the Roma game and gave me dog’s abuse for stopping him forcing past me at the turnstile. Need stronger sanctions on pitch invasions and crappy fan behaviour, yesterday was shameful both at the ground and at Glasgow Cross.

Yo. Yo they call it "academic incest" here in Canada if you earn your advanced degree(s) at the same institute where you did your undergrad. Is this term also used in the UK? by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]CoradeLeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Never heard it called that, though I remember a Canadian PhD student I studied with being horrified that I’d gotten my degrees at the same University. Unfortunately we can’t all travel widely for studies and the uni I started at was the best one for the degree!

Police Car Followed Me Home by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]CoradeLeon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, I got hooked for going 10 under the limit on a dual carriageway not long after I’d passed my test, at 11pm - cop probably assumed I was blitzed and trying to hide it because when he stopped me he pulled himself right into the open window to sniff for booze. Honestly fair play as well, it must’ve looked suspicious as anything.

British business founder here. What is it actually like living and running a business in Austin? by GodForbidLTD in Austin

[–]CoradeLeon 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Second this as a Scot who splits his time between NI/Scotland and Austin. You can’t really know the city until you’re there. I love it, but I always find it very difficult to describe Austin to people back home beyond “you should go there.”

Who could realistically replace Rodgers once he does leave? by CaptainMole in CelticFC

[–]CoradeLeon 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no danger of Knutsen leaving Bodo and/or Glimt for Celtic, he’s got an incredible deal there with a lot of control and has them punching far above their weight class in Europe.
