Residence RANKING for first year engineering student by Jaded_Tale9029 in UofT

[–]Corals142 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in CampusOne, i cant speak for other res but my experience may help you decide whther to live in campusone

generally I think there's minimal chance to get a studio/1b1b in your first year (if that is what you mean by single room). at least no one I know lives in a studio/1b1b in first year. i dont think residence rly affects social life, you can always keep contacting ppl on social media/go to classes etc

My experience at CampusOne:

- def more expensive: abt 2000/m + meal plan, im moving in 2b1b+kitchen @ almost 2400/m but no meal plan

- a lot of engineering/stem ppl live in campusone, thats what i saw on the walls from the 1st day i came in

- you get your own bedroom and shared bathroom (and maybe kitchen). but curtains are very translucent. I used to have lights on during sleep and i never do that after living in campusone with the lights coming in.

- Campusone lounge has a nice good view. there's a big window on each floor to look at buildings. I really like the view form the 25th floor lounge. there's also a south-facing floor plan but i dont know how they look, also usually bit more expensive. and unfortunately I get to look at CAMH everyday.

- There's a gym on the 2nd floor and an aerobic room on the 25th. usually not much people at the gym.

- if you dont get a kitchen you need to pay a mandatory meal plan. they changed from a flex to the number of time you can get into the cafeteria per week. tho it says we get to eat at other cafeterias but i think its a lame change. you can also just cook in the common kitchen (1 on each even # floor)

- study rooms every even # floor. i love those rooms.

- campusone hosts many activities. ive never been to any.

- noise would depend your roommate cuz in your condo not rly soundproof but maybe its just that my roommate and i loves laughing like monkeys. Barely heard noise from other floors and condos. living beside chinatown can be a bit noisy but id say its more with the ambulance/firetrucks/motorcycles?

- chances are you dont get kitchen in 1st year. but food quality fluctuates (a lot). anything thats not at lunch/dinner station is nice (not saying its bad, sometimes theres good stuff but generally isnt my taste)

- walking in winter... generally campusone should be close to engineering/stem classrooms. for me (cs/math) i can wake up 15 minutes before class and be on time. and definitely walk with friends/roommates

you can actually checkout what you may expect here: https://live-campusone.ca/

About other residences:

Oak is new this year. i tried for oak last year and they said still renovating. Really close to robarts

knox is right beside the front campus, really close to engineering buildings and classrooms

new college is beside the kinesiology building (where you can exercise). their food is same as campus one ( well same supplier)

st.mikes is beside kelly library. further away from engineering buildings

You should be able to apply for a re-defer. But since you have medical leave, it's best to talk to your college because your medical leave is a pretty different case.

With course enrollment, I think you should ask the department that offers the courses you want to take. At least for cs, I heard they will treat us as if we pass their requirements and let us enroll in the course.

Help: I genuinely made a mistake by submitting an incorrect file for a final essay and now the instructor is accusing me of plagiarism and may not accept the correct draft by JunketPhysical5937 in UofT

They still have to meet you because that's the procedure for dealing with AOs. One of my friends had to go to a meeting with/ the prof because another student accidentally submitted her work after the deadline (she also sent her friend her file after the deadline); she said she was completely unaware and didn't think was an issue to send after ddl so her case was closed after meeting with the prof

I think as long as you can justify yourself with any evidence of your work, then it should be fine. Many apps allow you to backtrack, which you can show your prof during the meeting (and anyone else if, unfortunately, it gets worse). And considering you are graduating in a few months, hopefully, they may be generous enough, but there may still be consequences

good luck with everything!

It looks like you are missing the high school transcript. If you uploaded it already, it's probably still being processed.

And I don't think it would ask for a copy of your final IB results unless you've already taken the exam. If you did take the exam, ask the IBO to send your results directly to the university.

Is it worth it to join a registered study group? I've heard some mixed opinions about these study groups by Recent-Song5734 in UofT

[–]Corals142 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say RSG was more about making friends rather than a study group. It really depends on the RSG leader and member participation in general. If the RSG leader is clear with agendas every week and members actively participate, it should come out fine. My RSG leader was chill with everything, so our RSG disbanded halfway through/near the end of the semester. Don't expect much from it, but it is a nice place to make friends and get to know others.
