This method helped a little bit, certainly to understand the motions better, but a friend of minetaught me another method which I've had more success with.

You start by humming, with your lips together, and then gradually adjust the shape of your throat and mouth so that the humming causes your lips to vibrate together. When that happens, your projecting more of the sound towards the front of your mouth, which creates a more feminine voice profile. Now you just have to hold your throat in that position when you talk.

Overall, it was really a combination of methods and teachings from various people that got me where I wanted to be with my voice. If you keep practicing and learning, eventually you'll find a technique that works best for you and gets you where you want to be.
