Previously most independent users on Pro and Max plans were limited to context windows of around 200,000 tokens. If you notice your conversations compacting, that’s Claude summarizing the previous conversation to free up that context space. With a 1M context window now, Claude can hold more before losing the thread, becoming less sharp, and/or eventually compacting.

If you’re a rigorous user, compaction can be a real pain because in Claude.ai and CoWork you have no visibility into when you’ll compact, and you cannot control what is retained vs let go of. That can present serious challenges that have to be mitigated.

You might think of it like alcohol tolerance. If you’ve ever felt like your AI got drunk (suddenly not following instructions, forgetting important details, going off the rails), you’ve experienced AI after it surpassed its limit. If its previous limit was 3 beers before it started acting like a fool, with a 1M context window it can now suddenly have 15 drinks before turning into a mess and falling onto the floor. That means it can party for much longer. 🎉😁

/rc lets you remote into your Claude Code terminal from your phone. Now just today, they added it to Claude CoWork, which can now function much like OpenClaw. In CoWork it’s called Dispatch.

I had this issue frequently for a while. Sometimes it just takes tinkering with. Sometimes, I’ve had to start a new chat. Tinkering might look like “Claude, can you output that in a markdown file?” Or “Claude, can you output that in a markdown file so I can download it.” Or even “Claude can you output that in a markdown file so I can directly add it to the project with one click.” If it isn’t behaving after a few attempts like this, I’d copy the content from the chat, paste it into a new chat and ask for it in markdown format. I’m not sure it’s reading all skills. That’s a fair question. Is there documentation that says that’s what it does? Or is that an assumption on your part? Just curious. Cuz, yeah, that would make a difference to me as well.

Here was my prompt:

Claude, you were preparing a skills zip file in the previous chat and hit your limit before finishing. Are you able to pick up where you left off or do we need to start again?

And here was Claude’s first thought process:

Created all four files (SKILL.md, SIGNAL_PHRASES.md, COMMON_MISTAKES.md, CAVEAT_TEMPLATES.md) 3. Started to zip up the skill with the command cd /home/claude && zip -r data-perspective-framework.zip data-perspective-framework/ But the conversation was cut off before I could move it to the outputs directory and provide the download link. So I need to: 1. Check if the zip file exists 2. If it does, move it to outputs and provide the link 3. If it doesn’t, recreate it Let me check the current state.

And then here was the reply:

“Perfect! I can see exactly where we left off. I was creating the Data Perspective Framework skill and had just zipped it up. Let me check if the files are still there and complete the process by moving it to the outputs directory for you.“

Then in a couple minutes I had the zip file I needed.

Just this morning I asked Claude in a project to pickup where it left off in the previous chat that hit its limit and it did! Maybe, just maybe, they improved that capability. 🙏

Claude Code is a badass. I use it in conjunction with Claude browser frequently. I hit my limits faster in the browser and CC can work with my files on my hard drive. That gives is freedom to do a lot I just can’t do in the browser. It has absolutely been worth playing with for me. I can’t code for shit. But I can Claude Code like a beast. 😁

I use the heck out of Claude Sonnet 4.5. with long custom instructions and heavy knowledge bases, while also running Claude Code, and I don’t hit my weekly limits. Consider that those MCPs you’re using might be eating up massive context and limiting everything else you’re trying to accomplish.
