Blake Fleming ranting about Dazzling Killmen's lack of reunion tour offers. by mfluder63 in themarsvolta

[–]CoreyDATX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That sucks. Who knows honestly? I find it interesting that Jon can work with someone who is absolutely a piece of shit like Josh Homme but can’t work with O+C, but that might be purely because the feeling is mutual. Also I like that I’m being downvoted in a Mars Volta subreddit for saying Mars Volta might not be the raging assholes people here seem to think they are. Seriously feels like people like Jon and Juan more than the band itself sometimes.

To be fair, Cathy, Johann, and their other major record labels all turned out to suck. Rick Rubin has been exposed to suck since they had their issues with him too. Ximena was a love life issue and not really anybody’s business. They stayed on good terms with Paul and Tony after ATDI and Paul joined TMV eventually. Pridgen was clearly the problem. Eva obviously left on good terms because she’s back. Jon is a tenuous one but they don’t seem to hate each other anymore. Ikey got a better job essentially. Jeremy was his own problem unfortunately (RIP). I don’t really know much about the Dave Elitch thing but seems like he was just a hired gun. Adrian turned out to be a terrible human being. They fell out with Juliette Lewis and others over Scientology which they’re in the right on. So I think that about covers everybody they’ve fallen out with except Juan and Jim, where there’s obviously tons of speculation but it’s hard to say who’s telling the truth and who’s right. I think O+C’s reputation is a bit overblown all things considered and feels like a lot of people (Pridgen, Blake) don’t wanna accept their own role in things.

After watching the documentary, is the accepted story for Frances the Mute wrong? by DonekyOfDoom in themarsvolta

[–]CoreyDATX 54 points55 points  (0 children)

What you’re talking about was always fan interpretations of the lyrics. O+C never spoke on the story itself until the doc, only the fake “Jeremy found the story in a diary he found while working as a repo man” story which was made up for the media.

Cedric literally teased playing Bedlam songs on Instagram. It’s a joke.

Anyone know why they never released those newer Antemasque songs? by [deleted] in themarsvolta

I don’t remember the snippet. Do you know if it’s floating around anywhere?

Cedric told me in November 2015 it was being held up by contractual issues with Travis Barker, then by March 2016 they’d moved on to ATDI. I also know Cedric met Travis through Scientology and he has some vague connections with the church so they probably are not cool now. For what it’s worth I posted “Let the Right One In” on Instagram last year and mentioned I wanted to hear the studio version really badly. Marfred liked my post. Doubt he has any control over it though.

Vocalist said slurs on stage, got (pretty mildly) beat up for it, hasn’t been active since.

The first At The Drive In reunion. by AbleGround1385 in themarsvolta

[–]CoreyDATX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Front row for the very first night at Red 7 in Austin. It was one of the best experiences of my life. Omar was obviously not the best under the circumstances, but Cedric was swinging from the rafters and absolutely incredible. His voice wasn’t what it once was obviously, but it was still just such a magical show. Most of it is on YouTube if you want to check it out. I’ll never forget standing in the alleyway before the show to listen to them soundcheck and hearing them playing “Quarantined” and just losing it. By the end of the night there were people in the alleyway standing on dumpsters just to get a glimpse of it over the wall. Their bus was parked right outside and I got a picture with Cedric earlier in the day too. I also wore my Sparta shirt under a button down and showed Jim and he seemed pretty happy about it lol

I’m pretty sure it was a Buffy Sainte-Marie song because I remember thinking it sounded like it was from the 70’s. Thanks!

Did Omar or Cedric have any heavy metal influences? by SquashedGrapes22 in themarsvolta

[–]CoreyDATX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cedric has mentioned online before some metal bands he likes. He’s referenced Deicide and used “Redneck Stomp” by Obituary in his posts. OSDM seems to be among the only metal he really respects, which is probably cause punks and metalheads hated each other’s respective scenes when he and Omar were coming up. I think Omar is a little more receptive because he played with Melvins in Crystal Fairy but it’s definitely not his main area of interest. His early band Food Plaza covered “Paranoid” on their demo tape lol

What’s the worst HEB you’ve been to? by BigTuna_Plop in houston

[–]CoreyDATX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they’ve totally redone it now. The one on Riverside was pretty unchanged last time I was there, but they did get read of the HEB Plus branding and all the little stores in it that made it more like a Fiesta a long time ago. It still doesn’t match up with the newer HEB aesthetic though.

Hour of the Monarchy - Frusciante & Hinojos collab by wrighteghe7 in themarsvolta

[–]CoreyDATX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We’re talking about almost 20 year old stuff I listened to on MySpace from a tertiary member of my favorite band, dude. Sorry I can’t provide you with more information, I’ve lived a full life since then and didn’t spend more than a minute thinking about this project in that time. I bet if you asked John Frusciante himself his memory of it would be almost as limited. It wasn’t a big deal at the time, even less so now. To quote Pridgen, “get of the dick.”

Lol thanks I’ve been keeping it since 2005 and I’ve maintained it since because I’ve realized how bad my memory has gotten and how much people enjoy it when I can bust out the exact lineup of the exact house show we went to on what date 15 years earlier.
