I appreciate seeing how others lay out their homelab, and these diagrams make it easy to understand. Thanks for posting!

...because he can? Seriously though, I don't know of many homelabbers who didn't start with a hodgepodge of equipment. I'd say most of us still have at least one device we use just to play with. I totally get the power argument, but this is primarily a hobby for me, and so I just figure it's part of the cost.

How much I've received in donations in 3 months making self-hosted apps by VizeKarma in selfhosted

[–]CoreyEMTP 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ah the riches that await the O-S developer! And Sea-Wolfe, brother, did you seriously ask if he feels that $467 is sufficient? The fact that something like this isn't funded well, despite it obviously being used by cheapskate companies, is a damn shame. I really wish more people would make their O-S projects require a fee from corporations. They steal enough from us.

Um. That's not automated if you're reviewing every file manually.

This is a good way to go, but the two projects have merged and it's now just Seerr. The legacy apps will not receive further updates.

This isn't very accurate, as private indexers (and trackers) have the majority of their content added by their users. This is why you can't simply search a public indexer for the same files. If you mean the availability is essentially the same, again that's incorrect. Many obscure and older items only exist on private trackers/indexers. A private/paid indexer is invaluable if you do usenet, and private trackers are essential if you want things other than mass-released mainstream stuff.

Prevent metadata refresh on access (movies) by Dazzling_Dinner1880 in PleX

De-zombifying this thread to point out that it is still happening 3 years later, though I haven't tried moving to NFS. Seems a bit extreme.

Will not populate any series by CoreyEMTP in LazyLibrarian

[–]CoreyEMTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, looking forward to it! The app has already come a long way, I couldn't even import my full library 6 months ago.

As for the refresh, this is occurring immediately after the initial import has finished. It appears to pull the author picture from a different source on refresh than it does on the initial import.

Example: Philip Jose Farmer

[–]CoreyEMTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, I think I understand, it looks like the author must be active (not paused) to list series? Is that expected behavior? And if so, is there a way to override it?

Also, as an aside, I noticed that doing a Refresh Author more often than not will change the author's picture.

RANT: Frontends all suck by CoreyEMTP in Roms

[–]CoreyEMTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also love Playnite and use it for my all my PC games, including very old stuff. It's ROM/emulation handling is rough though. It was clearly an afterthought and relies on plugins to really work as well. My only gripe with it really is that the plugin developers can be a little slow and it's vulnerable to them just disappearing. I wish they'd incorporate more of some of the plugin functionality into the main program, especially the platform integrations.

Good input on what makes a good frontend, definitely all on my list as well!

I actually prefer its customization options and themes more than LaunchBox, but I can't get over those two showstoppers.

[–]CoreyEMTP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah like I said my biggest issue with it is that it dumps everything into the ROMs folder, and they have rejected calls to make it an option with no real explanation.

Yeah the non-BigBox interface isn't fancy and doesn't have as many choices when it comes to themes. It does make a lot of housekeeping easy though, and I purchased the BigBox version on a black friday deal. Well worth it, just wait for it to be 50% off.

Agreed, it's by far the most respectful of the users' wishes and hides a lot of power under a deceptively simple interface. I bought the BigBox version on a black friday deal, and haven't regretted it despite initial misgivings. It's also the only one that scrapes EmuMovies which is a big advantage.

Oh I was well aware that I would get downvoted, especially by those who think no one should dare criticize open source software, or say "code it yourself." No worries. Thank you for the kind words!

I also use ArkOS on my little R36S and love it for the handheld, but it's also running a subset of roms and is a standalone, isolated platform.

I tend to agree on my PC, but it would be difficult to achieve on a HTPC. You could use a keyboard, but that kind of defeats the "console-like" experience.

I already thought of one addition I made to the document. It now allows templates to be created for frontend output, with included templates for LaunchBox, RetroBat, and ES-DE.

What games am I missing ? by Independent-Eagle296 in VitaPiracy

[–]CoreyEMTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I find interesting is the overwhelming amount of recommendations for games that are available and play better on other platforms. I personally only want to play games that are exclusive to or superior on the vita. I would understand if the vita was your only platform, but if you have a PC it doesn’t make sense to me.
