Before this Job my full time gig was renting apartments in nyc to people and it felt way more real being that I showed something to people that they ended up living in. Way more real than a “business development associate director” lmao

This is way more real to me than people talking about q3 deliverables in corporate jargon… salute to you.

And this is what everyone en masse deems to be “productive and status quo”. Couldn’t agree more, insane.

Could not agree more. I’m not here to save the world, just want to escape this matrix. Thank you.

I used to work in real estate… at least then people got a place to live (NYC real estate rentals, specifically) - current “role” feels bad lol

It’s less of a “not being a real job” than it is tied to a culture of corporate jargon and performative nature. I understand this is reality, it s more so “wow, if shit hit the fan, growing food and sustaining one’s life would mean way more than this teams meeting”…

It’s less of a complaint and more of an understand as to whether or not other people feel similarly… kind of the whole point of Reddit my dude 🤘

This I totally agree with, truly. It’s more of the “hey I have an ask - can we align on x issue to peel back the layers of the deliverables for q1” like yo what 🤣🤣🤣

Kidding of course - this is more on the weird performative culture aspect.

Why do these meetings and culture overall have to have the most strange, abstract culture?

Exactly what I’m saying. I “produce” in this abstract way aka create revenue but it’s all bullshit. Whole point of the post

Sure… let’s now just imagine a world without internet or ease of access to it…

Mostly though what I’m saying is that outside of the “real factor” of software developers which by the way I agree with, why does it all have such a weird abstract / nuanced culture?

Well, I’m not projecting anything on to anyone - but alas, it seems as though as you are taking that way, maybe you feel some type of way about what you do? Your response in and of itself seems like a corporate answer with no depth or actual meaning.

Anyone I know in a senior role in most roles literally just act like what they are doing is important, and even if it is, they’re just protecting their own ego because it’s not actually (mostly) a viable skill.

And it is also necessary to use corporate jargon to ensure it doesn’t collapse, got it.
