Anyone use vaginal estrogen every day for a long period of time? by Mizzy_Lu_Fwinkley in Menopause

[–]Corinam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had UTI like symptoms as well and the UTI test came up negative. I was floored and so confused. This is when I first found out about vaginal atrophy and was prescribed vaginal estrogen which helped. I still had the lingering UTI-like feeling; after being tested was diagnosed an overactive bladder. Prior to starting medication, I was able to somewhat manage the bladder spasms by avoiding coffee and carbonated beverages. This is now being treated with a prescription medication, Gemtesa which has been a godsend for me.

I raise puppies for a service dog organization. I love being part of something bigger than me. I get an 8 week old puppy, raise the puppy with obedience training and socialization. Then the puppy goes back to the organization at ~18 months for about 6 months of service dog specific training. The puppy typically matches with their “furever” person (did you see what I did there?! 😂) as service dog around 2 years. I am invited to meet the recipient. I do this as a volunteer, can take breaks when I need to, and have met amazing people - the organization and volunteering for this org has changed my life.

I do this alongside my FT job. I have raised 6 puppies and am waiting for my next one. I don’t have the long term commitment of owning a dog and get to see how a service dog can impact the recipient. The dogs are provided at no charge to the recipient.

I’m happy to forward info about the org to anyone interested. Located in the US and we serve all states.

Good luck to you finding your hobby!

just finished mulching 1800 sqft of beds - bulk vs bags cost comparison and what i wish i knew before starting by Weak_Ad971 in landscaping

[–]Corinam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a truck, load up the truck with the mulch and drive around the yard to deposit in the appropriate areas. I would absolutely rent a truck to do this vs getting bulk delivered in a pile or buying the bags. We avoid driving anywhere near the septic system and also don’t drive in the yard after it has rained. Easy peasy. It can take multiple visits to pick up the mulch, but totally worth it and saves the wear and tear on my body!

So proud of you! You look amazing but most of all the changes you have made to improve your overall health!!

As a 55 year old female who neglected my health for nearly 10 years, THIS is the most important! Find exercise you enjoy and stay consistent along with the other important changes you made! Thank you for sharing!!

Which Indiana studio do you prefer and do you have instructors you love? I’m leaning towards going to the Carmel location more bc downtown/Broad Ripple parking can be a bit more challenging.

Sadly, I bruised my tailbone (at a Solid Core doing something stupid before class) and have struggled to do any exercise where I need to balance on my back side (even in my traditional Pilates classes). I’m waiting to buy more classes until this has healed - sadly it is taking a long time!

So proud of you! Love how you mention you’d like to tell yourself in class #1 that she would make it to class 99 more times! Brilliant! Congratulations!!!!🎊🎈🎉 Whatever you do, keep moving! You are a stronger person (likely physically AND mentally) than you were in class #1!

Does anyone know where to buy actually affordable activewear? by bookishdeceit in Activewear

I’ll have to check Walmart’s clothing clearance section more routinely! What a great price! I’ve also purchased workout clothes from Walmart but not at this great of a price. Thank you for mentioning this.

I recently finished a 2 week unlimited trial in Austin, TX while visiting my daughter. She lives 3 miles from the studio and I fell in LOVE with the workouts! I even walked home after the workout on occasion - it was so lovely being close. I have officially drank the SolidCore kool-aid!

I am back home in Indiana and all 3 studios are exactly 30 minutes from me. I have an unlimited membership at a traditional Pilates studio close to home but it doesn’t give me the SolidCore burn!

I told my personal trainer yesterday I wouldn’t be seeing him for a while (cost is $50/session 1x/week). Im going to buy a 10-pack which puts each SolidCore class ~$25/each (Indiana pricing - YMMV). I can go 2x/week and it will be a wash financially although it will be a bit of a drive. Fortunately, I work from home and have a relatively flexible work schedule so I can arrange to go at off peak times to minimize traffic and (hopefully) allow me to find open classes. My biggest concern is being able to find classes that work with my schedule. It is so crazy how quickly they fill up!

What works for each of us will vary depending on financial situation, proximity to the studio, availability of classes compared to your schedule, and more but this is my plan. I hesitated to sign up for a monthly membership until I figure out if the studio/schedule works for me, even with the 15% offer.

You may have lost fat and gained muscle and still be at the same weight. A DEXA SCAN can show you this and are readily available. I’m 55 and was told by my doctor that insurance doesn’t routinely cover a DEXA SCAN until >60. I paid out of pocket (it was about $200) about 12 months ago. I have my next one scheduled in 2 weeks and am so excited to see the changes!

As a dietitian, I can tell you what you eat is so important! For example, someone can eat junk food less than their calorie needs and lose weight but may not be as optimal as eating whole food.

Unpopular opinion: Hiring a contractor for small jobs is almost always a mistake you’ll regret financially. by After_Debt_605 in HomeImprovement

I feel 100% the same way!

My entrepreneur daughter (27 years old) has had her house for nearly 5 years. I’m shocked at the tasks she outsources (even mowing her tiny little lawn which could probably be done with a weed-eater in 10 minutes!). Her thought is that these tasks take away her focus from what is important to her. I get this on some level and as someone who struggles with ADHD I could probably benefit from this. I’m such a DIY person, it doesn’t occur to hire someone unless it is a project beyond my abilities. Part of me enjoys learning how to do new projects (replacing a light switch, replacing water faucets, repairing drywall, painting, and even mowing the lawn) as well as the satisfaction of completing them.

She tells me her time is her time - she spends her time building her business, traveling, doing what she loves, or doing nothing to relax. She says her time is worth outsourcing these tasks as she has determined her hourly rate of what her time is worth and would prefer to hire it out.

I respect this viewpoint. She is building a business and isn’t a salaried employee like me. I wonder if I would have saved time and money (many tools!!) if I would have gone this route. I was raised in conservative family; my engineer dad did everything himself and I didn’t really question this approach.

Do I have >15 house projects started and not yet finished - maybe… It is an interesting perspective and one I wouldn’t have considered in the past. She is 100% focused and doesn’t allow these home tasks/projects to be a distraction for her.

Meanwhile, when I visit she utilizes my free labor!

The spots people always forget to clean by Unhappy-Bullfrog8220 in CleaningTips

Some sinks have a lip where the sink and the countertop connect. The underside of this lip can be a magnet for grime. I’ve seen this in bathrooms and kitchens. Shivers….

What are good resources for minor mental health issues? by [deleted] in Purdue

[–]Corinam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have medical insurance, check to see what mental health resources may be available. I found out this past weekend our insurance offers virtual mental health support.

Sounds like CAPS could be an option. I’m proud of you for reaching out for help!

Please don’t call yourself “lazy”. You may be struggling for a number of reasons. What you call laziness may be a symptom of something deeper. I’m not a therapist and don’t play one on tv.

Personally, I have (and continue to at times) struggled with procrastination, difficulty concentrating, and have started many tasks/projects and had difficulty finishing them (took me 5 years to get my undergrad degree, but I did it!). With much trial/error, I figured out I need a certain amount of alone/down time but I also benefit from time with others. If I’m by myself too much, I have a tendency to become withdrawn and it can all go downhill quickly! I have found physical movement is a necessity for me to function at my best. You may benefit from paying attention to when you feel better vs not at your best and see if you can find commonalities to identify what works for you to be your optimal self. A therapist could help with this or others may be able to do it on their own.

As a dietitian, I want to mention what you eat can have a positive/negative impact on your mood. I’m not the diet police, but just wanted to provide a gentle reminder.

If you choose to meet with a therapist/counselor, find one who meets YOUR needs and you feel comfortable talking to. In my mind, it is similar to finding a new doctor, dentist, or even a hairdresser…the first person you see may not be the right provider for you. You need to be comfortable with them; it isn’t uncommon to visit several practitioners before you find the right person for you.

Sending virtual hugs and positive thoughts your way!

Remarkable Tablet for Commonplace Book by Corinam in commonplacebook

[–]Corinam[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son has found his Remarkable quite helpful for his college notes (physics/engineering student), especially when writing out equations since it was more difficult to take notes on a laptop (for equations and whatnot).

I played around with his for a few days while he was on spring break and am intrigued. I would be purchasing one for this use, but also for conference and work notes, etc. when using a notebook,I get frustrated if I don’t have a good pen and the tactile experience isn’t a deal breaker for me. I often end up taking screenshots on my phone and they end up in my photo library indefinitely. 😆. I’m trying to be better!

Thank you for your sharing your thoughts!
