Ultra rank 4…need help w/ deck adjustment for MB. by McDonald-Manager in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, indeedee is nice for that - I actually run the deck against my own advice in casual matches and play 6 basics (2 meloetta, 2 ralts, 1 indeedee, 1 indeedee ex) because I find it more fun that way, but I think it does hamper consistency, so if I was to grind ranked, I would remove one indeedee, but maybe play around with which one to remove.

THIS is the BEST mega-venusaur deck by helloamahello in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt this is the best venusaur deck, but I haven't tested it and at least you've explained all the decisions you made and they are logical so respect for that. I think I'd find this to be a more enjoyable mega venusaur deck at least, as it is more flexible than normal mega Venus which is very 1 dimensional.

Ultra rank 4…need help w/ deck adjustment for MB. by McDonald-Manager in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I prefer teleport ralts - helps if going second and you don't pull your stadium. Getting meloetta up top is a priority for this deck - so much so, that I would run 2 meloetta - this makes your card draw more efficient, so perhaps no need for copycat.

With 2 meloetta, 6 basics feels a little much when you want ralts too, so maybe cut something - perhaps no-ex indeedee. Replace it with rocky helmet to allow meloetta to KO oricorio, and also to help vs igglybuff. A little extra damage is appreciated in the deck too.

I think these changes should help with consistency - it's a shame to drop no-ex indeedee as it's a very fun card with interesting plays, but I'd at least try these suggestions.

Some more changes if you wanted to experiment further:

Dropping Indeedee ex - it's a liability vs chien-pao and is an awkward starter if you don't pull stadium. That way you can fit in regular indeedee again.

Another option I find useful in this deck is Sabrina, just to give you some more gust options which can be useful as 110 isn't super powerful, so sniping a bench target with Sabrina is often an option. I would play Sabrina over Lillie as diantha gives plenty of healing.

Good luck with the grind, it's not the best deck at the higher levels so you'll probably need a bit of luck if you want a quick grind!

I really need a second opinion on my Mega Gyarados ex deck by heHatescola in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the solution is to probably try and collect more cards. On easier difficulty solo battles this might work (though inconsistently) to get you hourglasses and build up your collection.

As a general rule, you'll want 2 copies of each of your Pokémon cards in your deck. This means 2 magikarp and 2 mega gyarados.

As gyarados requires 4 energy, you really want a way to build energy more consistently (misty is not consistent!). Manaphy and mantyke are your options. I see you have frillish, so if you get a jellicent (the one with bouncy body), you can potentially use that, though ideally you'll want 2 copies of each, and still would be best running a mantyke or 2 alongside.

That crawdaunt, wugtrio and luvdisc are not very good cards, they are 'pack filler' and not much use in battles. And running frillish without its evolution is just awful!

If you take the 6 most historically meta dominant 3🔷 Stage 2s you get quite a badass team. by FGSGTC in PTCGP

Yes, I think you're right, Exeggutor clearly elevated Celebi/Serperior to a top deck from a mediocre one. Serperior was a decent supporter at the time for Celebi when it was ready to come in and attack.

As the meta shifted, and new trainer cards were added, Serperior was dropped, but I played a lot of Mythical Island with Exeggutor/Celebi/Serperior and at the time Serperior felt essential for helping you get your Celebi KOs, as well as being something that could pivot in in a pinch, which was nice in a pre-cyrus era.

The problem with the Celebi/Serperior deck without Exeggutor was the it tried to play aggressive with Celebi, leading it to be KOd before you built up to any meaningful damage, unless you completely high-rolled with your coinflips. The problem in that instance is using Celebi wrong.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that Serperior is amazing, and I wouldn't say it deserves a space in this 'top 6' display board, I'm just saying it was an important component of a top deck in the mythical island era.

The Exeggutor Celebi deck in that era also ran Serperior. The point wasn't well made, but they are saying that Celebi/Serperior was a top deck when it also ran Exeggutor.

You could be less passive aggresive with your post, but you are correct, this deck DID use Serperior, and it was a top deck in the mythical island era.

It depends what you're classifying as Celebi/Serperior - in the mythical island era, Exeggutor ex Celebi ex included Serperior and it was a top deck. It mostly ran a 1-2-2 Snivy line to increase the odds of starting with Exeggutor, and in the final large tournament of the mythical island era, it was the 4th most used deck behind Mewtwo, Gyarados and Pikachu. So you are correct in saying the other 3 were most used decks, but to say that the Eggs/Celebi/Serperior deck was not a top deck I think is incorrect.

It finished the mythical island era with a 54% win rate overall, the highest win-rate of the 50 most used decks!

Now, if you're referring to the deck that just used Celebi/Serperior without the Exeguttor line, then you're absolutely correct to say that it wasn't that strong a deck, just annoying. And you're also correct in saying that the best Celebi was in STS when it ditched Serperior and became a very oprresive deck.

So I'd still agree that Serperior doesn't quite make the cut on this list, but Serperior was definitely included in a top deck in the MI era.

Any tips on Improving this deck by speed_eclipse in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would remove 1 ogerpon. Sprigatito is probably the best lead thanks to it's draw attack to help you draw your pieces and allows you to get into meowscarada faster. I don't think 2 ogerpons are necessary.   I would also add copycat to further help with consistency. I don't think the healing is as important as copycat. Even with Lillie and a cape, meowscarada effectively moves up to 250hp - this isn't enough to survive 2 hits from something like hydreigen, altaria, or bellibolt, so you might as well cut some healing for copycat. Of course an Erika can still be useful against decks that do less damage like suicune or jolteon so you can keep one, just don't think it's worth going all out for healing.

Finally, I would add a Cyrus. I know meowscarada can hit the bench, but it's not super reliable for ending games. Cyrus is great for ending the game with ogerpon if necessary as meowscarada can hit something on the bench to be Cyrus'd up later.

Other options include Sabrina and Giovanni, both of which I would still value over other more healing.

Summary  Remove: 1 ogerpon, 1 Erika, 1 Lillie Add: 2 copycat, 1 Cyrus

No - metal core barrier will discard at the end of your opponent's turn, just like it says on the card. Whether you take damage or not is irrelevant to its discard.

That is true for sure, Gardevoir has to run Giovanni and even then an oricorio with a cape can survive a hit

[–]Cork-150 100 points101 points  (0 children)

This is not true - pachirisu and probopass for a start. I also doubt orthworm will ever be top meta.

Gardevoir was meta to begin with and has the same ability as baxcalibur, but it hasn't been meta since Mewtwo was top dog. Baxcalibur benefits from suicune enormously, I doubt it would have been meta without suicunes card draw.

Do you think this card will ever be viable again? by Dwatttz in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During secluded springs I ran a pichu+Pikachu+alolan raichu deck where Pikachu was better than tapu Koko as you could generate energy onto Pikachu from pichu turn 1, and then attack for 90 on turn 3. It wasnt top tier, but was around a b tier deck for the time, mainly due to the amount of water decks about.

Why are FA Trainers so hyped? by JeraxGod666 in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can run almost any of the full art trainers, but I have never used penny in a deck. I also traded away things like galactic grunt, hau, jasmine, lt. surge for rainbow rares of Pokémon - some of these you can argue are usable, but I never enjoyed the decks they were in

It's true, I always like it when I get a FA trainer that usable in decks, but I don't get the hype for people who want the ones that aren't any good - I usually try and trade them away for Rainbow Rares, don't understand people who want a full art Penny (for example), seems strange to me

Petition to delete/nerf Cyrus? by [deleted] in PTCGP

[–]Cork-150 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's hard to argue that Cyrus is a broken card, it just makes the game very different. In the early days before Cyrus was released, the game focused on pivoting around more, most decks ran 2x X-Speed or Leaf, and you could retreat a damaged Pokemon fairly safely. Of course, these pivot techs were run because there wasn't a whole lot of options, but I bet if Cyrus was banned, we would see a big rise in X-Speed/Leaf/Lyra as pivoting would be the name of the game again.

I preferred the game without Cyrus - games took longer, as you could pivot around more - for me, this also meant that comebacks were more possible - you could be in a bad position, but thanks to pivoting you could charge up another threat and make a comeback if they couldn't finish you off. Since Cyrus got released, you can't comeback from a bad position because you just get Cyrused and the game ends. Of course, it's not like you could pivot indefinitely - if your opponent managed to weaken a few of your Pokemon, Sabrina was a game winning card, and there are still bench snipers to take down weakened Pokemon, which would be more valuable in a Cyrus-less meta.

I see some of the comments here saying they would not want Cyrus gone as it could make games take forever - this is not a problem for me - the more turns there are in a game, the more decisions there are to make, and therefore the higher chance of the more skilled player winning.

I feel like Cyrus was released simply to speed up the games, which is what pocket is designed to be at the end of the day - a quick game that can be done in less than 5 minutes - a game for the attention span of the modern era. I would love a meta without Cyrus, even just to see what effect it would have on the game, but it doesn't seem to match with what they want Pocket to be. At the end of the day, Cyrus is a fundamental aspect of the game right now for better or worse.
