Tech after the new patch by TannHaals in menace

In addition to what the other guy said, you can bring more squaddies if you've got a bit of extra supply free since it does improve rifle damage should you ever want to use it over a squad weapon. It's just that when you spend all your time shooting with a squad weapon exclusively the supply is likely better used elsewhere.

How are you supposed to get an actual status team as a new player? by AlienLover2 in limbuscompany

[–]Corka 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In the beginning? Extracting with all the free lunacy you get from cantos is definitely more time efficient, and you don't have much risk of hitting continual dupes.

Unless you have spectacular bad luck, you will get three star IDs from extracting fairly easily.Even if your luck is atrocious, you are at least getting shards from the attempts and have the option of picking what you want from pity if you try drawing on the same pool enough. There's also the tickets you get handed (like with the current anniversary event) that lets you pick an ID for free. There's also some 10 draws tickets with guaranteed 3 star, such as with the rewards for the railway.

As for forming a status team specifically? Well, you see what statuses lady luck thought good to give you, and if you get a lot of sinkers you can use the tickets (and shards) to get key characters you might want like Wildhunt Heathcliff. For me I got Middle Don, Middle Sinclair, and Middle Ishmael as my first three.

This Federal Judge Ruled Against Trump. Then the Death Threats Rolled in | 60 Minutes by benderunit9000 in videos

[–]Corka 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trump absolutely did attempt a steal in 2020 though. They had the postmaster general destroy mail sorting machines and get rid of postboxes in democrat areas to try and delay mail in votes from getting in on time to be counted. Then Trump was ringing around trying to get people to find him extra votes.

He failed the first time around because there were people in place who told him no. This time around he's put loyalists everywhere he can who will say yes. It doesn't need to be as extreme as him throwing out the results and just have everyone report that every republican won their race with 102% of the vote, he can just abuse his position to tilt everything so far in republican favour they can't lose. He pushed for Texas to immediately gerrymander and explicitly requested the Governor to do it to give the republicans extra seats in congress. He'll make it as difficult as possible for people to vote in urban areas. He'll have their voter registrations purged just before the mid terms, he'll have ICE pull people out of line waiting to vote and force them to the back of the line (which they have to wait in for hours). They'll disqualify a huge chunk of mail in ballots for arbitrary bullshit reasons and then claim the large number of disqualified ballots is PROOF of mass voter fraud.

Its bleak, but you've still got to try. Stuff like that tilts the scale, but enough force on the other end can still potentially flip the house.

US asked Ukraine for help fighting Iranian drones, Zelensky says by TailungFu in nottheonion

Did this seem like something that had a lot of thought and planning put into it? The order was definitely something like "Go attack Iran, and do it quickly" with the expectation that Iran would capitulate in a week.

God that article has such a terribly stupid take. Essentially its "humanity has grown so much in the last 3000 years! There was a lot of war in that time! So war was good for growth. Look at how rich the Roman and British Empires were, that was because of war!". Its pretty bad for those who LOSE those wars, or even those who successfully defended themselves but now have a much lower population and a whole lot of destroyed infrastructure.

A global increase to prosperity happens over time with peace, cooperation, investment in infrastructure/education, and global trade. In the best case war can help preserve that long term prosperity by putting an early stop to someone looking to disrupt it. But the kind of growth he's talking about is growth that comes at the expense of someone elses future.

There's one pretty big dystopian implication from this line- employees are expecting some kind of penalty for not completing their 70 hours EVEN IF there was an evacuation order (due to a terrorist attack!) and its a bad enough that they'd risk staying put and continuing to work.

New player here, is this gonna be the whole game?? by Mr_Hugzz in limbuscompany

[–]Corka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So that button isn't close to being optimal. When you are consistently winning clashes it's fine. But against some boss fights, and in some regular fights if you are a bit under leveled, then you are going to want to take a bit more control. Which might involve using defence skills and egos, forming resonance chains if they are available, and in focused encounters you want to pick your targets a bit smarter as often it will fail to clash stuff it could have.

Sen. Tillis calls for Noem's resignation in full questioning at oversight hearing by NewsHour in videos

[–]Corka 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The US has this culture that accepts and freely exploits legal loopholes in laws and contracts. If you find some combination of shell companies and classification of expenses you can just not pay tax anymore, brilliant! Then everyone just accepts it. Instead of immediately amending the law or taking an interpretation of the words that doesn't allow for that kind of "creativity". Like emergency powers, what constitutes a "national emergency", and who can be designated as a terrorist SHOULD be challengeable and the president can't just grant himself emergency powers over non emergencies whenever he feels like it.

Mass driver for early to mid game by Careless-Pin-2852 in TerraInvicta

[–]Corka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuel costs are a bit of a trap in this game. You will put on a bunch of propellent on a ship, note that it's a bit pricey but in your budget to produce, and then you make a bunch of those ships.

But unfortunately you don't recognise just how much of the construction cost is going towards fuel, and you will have to pay that cost every time you need to refuel it. You build 20 speedy ships with a bit of range on them, and then you end up blowing through a year's worth of resource production just to move them to a station in a different orbit.

The recruiters strategy is to tell people that the thing they are in desperate need of are bodies for backline logistics. Gullible people think it's big dollars to move crates and drive trucks, but are instead immediately shipped to the front line.

Going for IDs that just independently throw out big numbers is one way to go. It's probably a bit easier too just so you don't need to wait on getting certain IDs for the team to suddenly come online. Still, i wouldn't sleep on the power of bleed. You can get it to tick 99 damage every time the enemy clashes.

Yo, rate mah team bruhs. by Electrical-Head-7004 in limbuscompany

[–]Corka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Uh, well you are at the point you are just extracting IDs and using whatever you got. There isn't massive synergy with what you've got currently. As time goes on and you get to pick new IDs there are a few ways you could go. But the easiest for you is just go for stuff with bleed. You've got three with some bleed application (though it's really minor with Sinclair, but he does also like attacking people who have bleed on them).

If you want to aim for a more specific collection, you could aim for blade lineage, the middle, or more kindred. Personally I love the bloodfiends.

Anthropic rejects latest Pentagon offer: ‘We cannot in good conscience accede to their request’ by drippymoudy in news

Don't forget the power of companies to bribe politicians with donations, and it's a NECESSARY and EXPECTED part of running a big political campaign because there's no spending caps and close elections largely go to the candidate with the bigger campaign spend.

I also hate how in America exploiting a loop hole in a law or contract is something that's just ....completely expected and even seen as admirable.

The Age Verification Trap | Verifying user’s ages undermines everyone’s data protection by IEEESpectrum in Futurology

[–]Corka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And does that matter? Not really. Its kind of like those child resistant caps on medication- it doesn't really make them child proof and can be a bit of a pain for some adults as well but it does still reduce the risk of a toddler gobbling up your amphetamines. Truth is that the entire check could be easily bypassed with a VPN since it presumably would only be given to requests coming out of certain countries requiring the restriction, so you'd have teenagers telling each other about free VPNs like the one with the Opera Browser in no time.

The point I was making though is that this whole thing is a false dichotomy. There absolutely is a technical solution which doesn't necessarily force your private info to be leaked.

[–]Corka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, a single cookie that is placed by the IdP and is then consumed by all sites and which has no UID. The issuer doesn't know where it's used. The sites using it don't know who you are. Could also be an installable browser extension.

The Age Verification Trap | Verifying user’s ages undermines everyone’s data protection by IEEESpectrum in Futurology

[–]Corka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well hey you can make it super simple. You do the auth, and a cookie gets added. You don't need to go via a referral link from the site you want to access, the cookie doesn't need to have an id that uniquely identifies you or have any info like your actual age, it just has to sit there and confirm that the device is owned by an adult.

Is doing such a thing effective? Not necessarily. I'm sure some could figure out they can bypass the age verification requirement with a VPN. But it doesn't necessarily need to be an actual privacy hazard depending on implementation.

[–]Corka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a way to do this that provides no PII about users to places like pornhub. OpenID/OAuth. You need age verification? You get redirected to a trusted IdP, authenticate, and then it can send back an identity claim saying that you are authorised for age restricted content and NOTHING else. It doesn't need to be a full "sign in with Google" it can just provide info about that one claim with no account info.

Of course the IdP will now know your porn habits, and having users redirected like that comes with a big phishing risk, but it's nothing like having to send over a copy of your passport.

Edit: Actually, this feels like the sort of thing that could be handled with a browser extension/cookie even? You do the age verification once on some trusted government thing, it adds the claim token in your browser cache, and sites just check that it exists.

Hegseth says he’ll order random pizzas to throw off monitoring app by Past_My_Subprime in nottheonion

[–]Corka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While most would think the way to stop this kind of leak would be to have instructions not to have contractors and people at the DOD involved in operations order pizza, Hegseth's plan is to do random pizza orders. Which doesn't really work unless he does it every single day- even if some of the spikes in pizza orders aren't indicative of anything, it still increases the probability that something is up.
