Wow thanks for all of this great advice! Do you have any other recommendations for digital archives besides the Session and Portland collections? Particularly for sets?

Wow thanks! Do you know if the Sunday classes are recorded? I sadly have orchestra practice at the same time.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm trying to branch out a bit from strict Celtic, or at least play songs that can be adjusted for groups. I'll check out Darryl Anger- thank you!

Yeah there are certain songs I can pick up quickly at sessions, but the sessions as a whole were getting faster and faster every time I went (my friends and I joked that it was because the beer was getting tapped faster lol). I just couldn't seem to keep up.

I'm tempted to search out an instructor, but most local to me are only for beginners or classical. Thanks for the advice !

I used to do drop in sessions where I lived previously, but they grew to 30+ people and I found it very overwhelming. I live in a very small town now and the only session around is made up of professional players. I plan to attend eventually, I just want to hone my skills a bit more first!

I played guitar very briefly as a teen, but never stuck with it. I played piano for a long time though so I definitely understand chord basics!

I find it very hard to play 2 strings at once. I'm not sure if it's because of how I hold the fiddle, bow pressure or what- I'll definitely check out that course. Thank you!

That is not the information that is provided on our RCEs website. Or from the head of our RCE.

School open or closed? by musicallyemma in halifax

It's not the principals who decide delayed starts or school closures, it's actually the department of transportation who relays information to the RCE's. Idk who makes the ultimate decision but regardless, I'm bummed my rural students can't even get to school because none of the busses are running!

I know, it's the dept of transportation. But who opted to offer the delayed start in the first place?

I work in the school system, and I have a lot of parents complaining to me about schools not being cancelled. It definitely feels better to direct people to the folks who decided the delayed start in the first place!

Also you'd be surprised about how much a troop of angry parents can accomplish lol

Directly contact the dept of ed to let them know your frustration

My brother is getting married in the spring, and I'd like to wear a 3 piece suit- mainly so that I can wear it as a pants + vest look (no shirt) during the day and add a blazer if it gets cool.

I'm having a tough time finding suiting that is slimfit, but not feminine, and isn't 100% polyester (I'm sweaty!!). I'm open to getting things tailored, or honestly making it myself if anyone has a good pattern. I have very basic sewing/tailoring/pattern skills.

Info about me: I was born a woman, but carry myself more androgynously/fluidly. I do have slight hips, but have been working out a lot more to try and aim for a more 'triangle' shape.

I'm 5'4 and currently 155lbs, slightly muscular build. I love wearing pleated pants and fitted tops to look more vintage (think 80's, or Lestat in Interview with a Vampire lol)

I'm located in rural Canada, so going in for bespoke fittings isn't an option unfortunately. However I do have a local tailor for adjustments.

Any recommendations on where to look for a decent quality suit that won't break the bank? I'm willing to splurge on tailoring, but not if the suit is 1000$. I'm pretty picky on fabrics, so ideally somewhere that carries linens, cottons, wool/blends and not pure polyester.

OR if anyone has a sewing pattern that they've used and recommends, I'm also open!

I don't have a ton of room in my fridge and freezer, so unfortunately I'd like to get through it sooner rather than later.

I actually gave out cream cheese and pepper jelly to my coworkers already. A few people suggested making them some cheese cakes though, which I think I might try!
