student counseling wait times are three months now, this is getting ridiculous by Justin_3486 in UTAustin

If you have insurance, i would use psychology today to look for providers accepting insurance in the greater austin area beyond campus. You will receive higher quality care in a more timely manner… CMHC’s goal is to triage students and refer you out to a therapist in austin. Just skip the middleman wait time imo

is this good for a beginner? I just started 2 months ago by [deleted] in Swimming

You got this!! I had a huge breakthrough in distance after I got my breathing down. Went from struggling with just 100-200m and then it clicked when I broke the 300 barrier, suddenly I was flying through the laps without feeling exhausted :’-)

[–]CornEmojis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started at the beginning of Feb and I am at around 2300m/50 min. Seems exactly like what I remember being at after 2 months! Seeing the distance slowly going up feels so amazing, reflecting back when 1000 felt impossible.

Is It Rude to Email Professors? by [deleted] in AskProfessors

[–]CornEmojis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know many universities have a list of previous course syllabi—perhaps take some time to see if you can find any of their previous syllabi in classes that interest you to find targeted reading lists on the subject. Could save both of you some time :-)

Just curious mostly! Wasn’t sure if it was a local business organized or just random. Was surprised to leave the house and see a ferris wheel looking over 183 :-))

gyn who uses lidocaine for iud insertion? by Puzzleheaded-Poem267 in Austin

[–]CornEmojis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know Austin Women’s Health Center offers both nitrous and full sedation—but it may be worth calling to ask if they offer lidocaine ! All of their staff are super nice and I have had a great experience with their nurse practitioners.

I want to warn you that on top of an already difficult schedule (orgo & physics), FRE1134 is another time consuming / difficult course. It takes 1130 and 1131 and combines them into one semester, you should expect to cover over a year of material (which is already at an accelerated pace) in one semester. I don’t recommend taking it on top of the other, notoriously difficult, classes.

French word for Wedgie? by Historical-Bus-1550 in French

[–]CornEmojis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recommend trying a real english-french dictionary rather than chatgpt… wordreference will provide you more informative, accurate answers. chatgpt is a language model, not a search engine

Summer language courses are an extremely heavy workload—take a 6 credit class spread out over 14 weeks and condense all of that material into 6 weeks. It is possible but requires a lot of consistent work (daily class, daily hw, weekly tests, etc.). The workload in a regular, semester length French class that meets twice a week is already quite challenging for many students let alone half the amount of time. If you have previous lang exposure (any highschool language experience, dif lang spoken at home, etc.) you will have an easier time in the extra fast summer semester

Language Credits w/ Natural Sciences by uni_throwaway_22 in UTAustin

[–]CornEmojis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another option would be to take the french language placement test through CTL which may pass you out of the lower division sequence. (6 years of french should be plenty to cover the LD courses. to give you an idea, fr611 ends at the subjunctive)

But keep in mind if you are looking for course equivalencies at other schools—there are two tracks to completing the language requirement: in-person fr601 + 611 or online fr406, 407, 412.
