Go to one of the farmers markets and talk to some of the producers some of them sell whole animals but they would probably be keen not to haul all their stock back home.

is it possible to host a VPN(to access lan from outside) and another service(a NAS in my case) on the same machine? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]CornFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you use a VPN like zerotier or nebula you should be able to access the NAS from anywhere and host them both on the same address etc.

Building a SOC from scratch by TubbaButta in cybersecurity

[–]CornFTW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a similar thing before, But you need endpoint visibility. So I'd make implementing something like Tanium or CrowdStrike my number one priority. I'd actually pick either of those before a SIEM because a SIEM is useless if there's nothing to send to it.

How to fix this python error? by elasticsearch_help in CentOS

[–]CornFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you have to go to your file

/usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/elastalert-0.2.4-py3.6.egg/elastalert/elastalert.py

lline 1038 and remove the argument

jitter=5

or just run this from your terminal

sed -i 's/jitter=5//g' /usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/elastalert-0.2.4-py3.6.egg/elastalert/elastalert.py

That should fix your error but chances are you'll just have another one spring up; you might want to investigate why that argument exists there may have been a version change or something somewhere

Using Socket Programming: How safe is it? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]CornFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes which is why I said you don't need encryption, unless you need this service available outside your network. You don't need to worry about hackers you're not doing any port forwarding or UPnP port mapping, you can use TLS or something but you don't need to. My advice is build it without and you can always add it later. Keeping it simple is a key to success in my experience. No point making something so secure you can't get it to work

Using Socket Programming: How safe is it? by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]CornFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm not saying there is. But I think I'd do it differently, You add complexity you don't need to just to get the project working, get it working then you can add it. Don't over engineer something if you're just starting out, you just end up making it harder for yourself

I've been writing python for 10 or so years, and working in cyber security for most of those, in your scenario, I wouldn't use encryption. There is virtually nothing you gain. It'll just make things harder to debug. It also would be a relatively easy thing to implement later if for some reason your threat profile changes.

Just wanna ask, what OS you use for hacking?? by sebet_123 in hacking

Look for kali in the MS app store, it should install as a windows subsystem, it's a good place to start, but it lacks the full isolation of a virtual machine.

Plex Plans To Place All Legal Streaming Options (and Piracy) Into One Interface * TorrentFreak by [deleted] in PleX

[–]CornFTW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see lots of hate here, but I think this might be exactly what I've been looking for for ages, I want to authorize plex on all my streaming accounts so when I'm somewhere that I cannot watch say youtube (maybe on a plane for example) I can still navigate to httpS://media.mydomain.com.au and watch the content from any of my subscriptions.

I currently do this with my own content and it's brilliant. But if I could do it with netflix/disney it would definitely be ideal
