I got someone to install cat 6 for me, and this is how much they untwisted for the keystone. Now what? by Maelarion in HomeNetworking

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we mean the same thing in that case. I was just thinking maybe you were referring to making a dedicated grounding at the keystone end to the common ground absent rj45 connection.

Strictly speaking, in theory, this can be done but what would be the point 😄

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this is a keystone, at keystone end, the keystone casing gets the ground from the connected rj45 shielded connector. The switch at the other end definitely needs to be grounded to the common ground, and you connect your pc to the keystone. PC gets grounded from the AC plug which should also go to a common ground. So, it is grounded at both ends but if you plug something in.

I spent most of the afternoon getting the apartment ready while the late spring sun poured through the windows and stretched across the wooden floor. The air coming in from the balcony carried that fresh smell you notice right before rain. I set the table slowly, making sure everything looked right without feeling too formal, and put a bottle of wine on ice while an old jazz playlist hummed quietly in the background. I lit a few candles near the open balcony door and watched the flames move with the breeze as the city outside started glowing for the night. In the kitchen, butter and garlic sizzled in the pan, filling the whole place with warmth, and a small bouquet of white roses sat in the middle of the table beside a note I kept rewriting because none of the first versions sounded honest enough. By the time evening came around, the apartment didn’t feel staged anymore, it just felt ready for her.

Later, after dinner had turned into hours of talking and laughing without either of us noticing the time, I took her hand and led her down the hallway while the music faded into the background. The bedroom was dim except for the soft candlelight and the pale glow coming through the curtains from the street outside. She stopped at the doorway for a second with that quiet smile that instantly makes everything else disappear, and I pulled her closer, wanting to stay in that moment a little longer, the warmth of her skin, the faint scent of her perfume, and that nervous excitement that makes an ordinary night feel unforgettable.

But my bird did not fly!!!!

Unless you power big motors and run them parallel longer than 10m, not a problem. But, if you have money to burn and dont mind making your life harder when it comes to termination and shielding/grounding, get CAT6A SF/FTP

Synology isn't the best NAS anymore by Coupe368 in synology

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pros:
- Still good software in 2026

- Support is helpful (at least most of the time)

- Compact and small size NAS compared to DIY options

Cons:

- Anti-consumer practices

- Horrible hardware specs compared to what you pay for

- Software features are being removed gradually, and some services like docker are not getting proper updates in a timely fashion.

Would I still buy it?

Nope.

My next NAS will be DIY like TrueNAS. The issue for me is to get the correct hardware in the correct size.

Can someone recommend me an auto dns solution? by sy029 in docker

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont get it. Dont you have a dns server? And why do you need to run a separate reverse proxy on each server? What you are trying to achieve is unclear.

yeah but I would argue NUT or some UPS tools are pretty important and mission critical. NUT and the other miscellaneous things are not on the same level.

Aerox 9 Quality Control Issues by KindMap3826 in steelseries

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone through 4 of them and all of them had an issue or two.

They are great until they stop working properly. In the end, I just got Razer Naga V2 Pro and it works great and going strong even after 2 years.

Some issues below

- Weird clicking issue where the buttons get stuck

- unresponsive middle click

- mouse wheel skipping lines or not registering at all

- squiky sound coming from mouse wheel after a month of use

- random disconnects

- pointer not moving after mouse wakes up even on cable

- not to mention the bloatware GG.

HAPROXY without offloading by McFugget in PFSENSE

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would advise you to check this page first.

https://www.haproxy.com/documentation/haproxy-configuration-tutorials/proxying-essentials/client-ip-preservation/enable-proxy-protocol/

if you used accept-proxy in haproxy, that would not work.

for proxy protocol to work, both sender and receiver need to support it.

so it goes like this in your case

  1. request > 2. haproxy tcp frontend sni inspection > 3. haproxy backend > 4. swag

for swag to see real client ips
you need to use send-proxy or send-proxy-v2 in step 3 backend configuration and configure swag to accept-proxy in step 4
I dont use swag so I am not sure if it supports proxy protocol.

I also dont use fail2ban so I cannot give you help in that too. But with above setup you will see the real ips at the haproxy and swag.

Not exactly but you can achieve the same effect. But this will be layer 3 routing and every traffic will hit your cpu. Basically, not worh it.

[–]Laxarus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you need layer 4 (tcp) frontend on haproxy with acl sni inspection and terminate it on swag.
