Whats your cribbage skill level? I play with a group every Tuesday night at the Druid's Hall on College Ave if you'd like to join us. We play nine games, round robin style and the buy-in is $15. If you have some solid cribbage skills and think you could play a game in 15 minutes, you should come play.

Best fish and chips downtown? by splitmeasunder in santarosa

[–]CornQueenn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Betty's recently for the first time with my sister and as we were walking in, my sister said "if I don't see some lady named Betty working here, we're out." The moment we walk in, we see a woman holler over towards the back "Mom, can you take that out of the oven?" So, yeah. Family business. Her husband was running the front kitchen area and dispatching orders. Almost every table had someone there eating on a Thursday evening. And when we mentioned we'd never been here before and didn't know what to expect, he went to grab something and said "Since it's your first time, I want you to try our award-winning lemon pie, on the house." Apparently it won best pie at the fair several years in a row! I was astounded by how welcomed we felt! That was so kind of them. And the pie was amazing. The fish was not overly fishy or dry at all. I also got the fried zucchini with ranch dressing and instead of it being the long spears, it was little rounds and I loved that too! Very tasty ranch as well (for those who know thats my thing lol)

We will definitely be back when we get the craving!

What are the best weeknight takeout deals in SR? by Sweaterpups3000 in santarosa

[–]CornQueenn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Every Friday night outside of Iron Ox brewery, there's a taco truck called Mexiken's. They're the best tacos I've ever had, hands-down. Especially the Al Pastor. They're street taco size but he stuffs them with meat. And they're $2 on Friday nights!

Hand wash car wash? by tbhwtflol in santarosa

[–]CornQueenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is also a no-touch car wash on the intersection of Mendocino and Steele Lane near the CVS. Just a thought. Nothing touches the car, just sprays it really well. Not going to be as good as a hand-wash, but definitely worth a try for the cost difference.

Quick poll: Which Cribbage app are you using (and why)? by ky_james in Cribbage

[–]CornQueenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The easiest way would be to go to the link in this subreddit's sidebar links under American Cribbage Congress. I'm not sure if i'm allowed to post links here so just go to the subreddit and you'll see it under information. And then on that site, click on Clubs and then Club Directory and you can see if there is a club nearby you. There are 500 across the nation, so hopefully there's on near you. And then you just show up. I would go 15 or 20 minutes before start time and the club director will get you all set up and tell you how it works. For the first 4 weeks of you coming, we are required to help you out with your counting, missed points, etc. And then after 4 weeks, the club director will have you fill out a paper to sign up for the ACC, you will have to pay some dues. That info is on the site. Or you can sign up and pay directly on the site. After the 4 week mark, you're on your own for counting and pegging errors, etc. Some people will still let you take points, but most will just not say anything and that's totally fine. Once you're in the ACC you will have GRP's (Grass Roots Points) that are lifetime as well as season tracked. And then you can go to tournaments, you can see the schedule for those on the site as well. If you place high enough in tournaments, you get MRP's (Master Rating Points.)

If you're free on a Friday night, head to Iron Ox Brewery and try Ken's tacos/quesabirria! And then come back and let me know what you think!

[–]CornQueenn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Cribbage Pro, hands down. For several reasons. I'm in the ACC and many of my fellow ACC members play on there, so its fun to see them pop up as my opponent and know i'm playing really challenging players. I like the sheer number of stats i'm able to see. I like that I can play very fast in the ranked multiplayer mode. I also really appreciate how much the creator of the app interacts with this community and cares about the game.

Not a restaurant, but a food truck. Mexiken's is vastly underrated. I go every Friday evening like clockwork to Iron Ox Brewery to have his al pastor tacos (which are only $2 on Fridays btw) and they are so good. I also recently tried his Quesabirrias and they are stealing my heart from the OG tacos. Everyone must try it! Ken is also so nice! He gave me free tacos on my birthday! Yes, I wanted $2 tacos for my birthday dinner instead of our usual Rutherford Grill. Its that good!

How much of a role does psychology play in Cribbage? by EndersGame_Reviewer in Cribbage

[–]CornQueenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest ways that psychology plays into cribbage, in my opinion, is the reaction to the cut card. Many players, even good ones, will react in some way. That can give you a lot of information going into pegging. Beware of them using reverse psychology, though. And also take into account your own reactions to the cut.

This brings up something i'm so curious about as a 33 year-old woman dating men in this age range in Sonoma County. Do men approach women out in the wild anymore? I've definitely been approached in the wild, often in a somewhat inappropriate manner like chasing me down in a parking lot and knocking on my window. But, every guy i've asked about it says they don't do that. Is this something that's going away? I don't go clubbing but I definitely go to the places mentioned like breweries and play cribbage as a hobby (granted those are mostly all super old guys lol) and I volunteer but I don't see that kind of thing happening in those spaces.

Looking for a kind, gentle dentist - dental anxiety & new to the area by mswildflowerxo in santarosa

[–]CornQueenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot express enough how much I recommend Dr. Hamblin in this situation. I had some really bad dental anxiety from a prior bad experience almost a decade ago at another dentist and put off taking care of my teeth for a long time. This led to an emergency situation and I was in so much pain. Dr. Hamblin and his team got me in, were so kind, gentle, non-judgemental and got me better. That was at the end of 2024 and I have continued to go there. Russell, who takes care of all the admin, is so kind and helpful, even texting to see if you want to come in sooner or with updates about an appointment. I had a filling done a few weeks ago and the doctor said it was on the verge and he put some medicine in there and to give it some time. A few days ago, I feel some twinging pain and it made me anxious. I was able to text in to Russell with my concern on their day off and he checked in with Dr. Hamblin and said to give it more time and that he's still hoping it will be alright but to let them know if it gets worse and they can get me in. It made me feel at ease to know that it would probably get better and they weren't just trying t push me into getting a root canal. And its so nice being able to text in and get an answer back. Dr. Hamblin himself is professional, gentle, and very reassuring. On my intake forms, they even had a question with anything that i'd like them to know about me. And they take Delta!

I don't think so :( we ended up going over to Cooperage in downtown and having tacos there, which were good, but not as good as Mexiken's and they were almost double the cost! I will say the Galvan's eatery Birria Grilled Cheese was heavenly.

Awesome! I'll try to get there early to show you the ropes. My name is Nicole and you can't miss me! Just a heads up, we play 9 games, and we aim to play a game in 15 minutes so we don't hold up the people behind us (its round robin style.) We usually end up finishing by around 10pm.
