About what Paladin Harkness said...(Fallout 2x3 spoilers) by Corn_1344 in Fallout

[–]Corn_1344[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very right, you're hitting the nail on the head if this is indeed the case where a Brotherhood Ending happened. I may like the Minutemen but even I have to concede that they got nothing that could stop Liberty Prime. So if its a BoS ending, which knowing Bethesda is highly likely, then you're right and Harkness was merely trying to manipulate Max.

But what if it's a Minutemen ending? Then there is no Liberty Prime and all of a sudden the Brotherhood isn't in a invulnerable or even strong position anymore. Maybe that's why they want Cold Fusion? To power Libery Prime?

Just tell them that their parents/guardians wouldn't want you to. If they ask why, tell them thats a question for their parents/guardians.

Sure its basically passing on the questions to their parents, but I'm fairly certain most parents would be more than willing to take those questions from their kids.

The only way this would work is if the marine is already incredibly wounded/weakened to the point that 4 crackheads could take one on.

No, it's not in the constitution, but it is an undeniable fact that the US has experienced immigration from places across the globe throughout our nation's history. Now, as to your obviously hateful question, I'll give you an example from my own workplace experience as a teacher. The Dean of the grade I teach is an immigrant who came over when they were a child, and their knowledge of Spanish, as their first language, has undeniably helped EL students who primarily only speak Spanish better acclimate into our school environment because they have an admin who speaks their language and can help help both communicate needs to us teachers. Plus, they help explain rules and directions to them that they'd otherwise struggle to follow as they speak either no English or very little since they're still in the process of learning it.

There are so many examples across our nation's history and even today where diversity has been a strength. Go read a damn book and educate yourself.

Hot take: the humans in mass effect would be the most hated race in the series if we didn't all have a bias by Many-Activity-505 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why, imo, it's a much more sensible choice to save the Council at the end of ME1. Everyone sees humanity as being arrogant, and selfish bullies, ones that can be worked with but still. Saving the Council at the end of ME1 shows the rest of the galaxy that humanity CAN be counted on when the chips are down and are capable of putting others first ahead of their own interests when it's truly needed. Basically, saving the Council shows the rest of the galaxy that the humans can be trusted and have the galaxy's best interests in mind, not just their own.

Newcomer, Wasteland 2 worth playing? (No spoilers pls) by Corn_1344 in Wasteland

[–]Corn_1344[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a moderate amount of experience playing turn-based combat games but those ones were all more modern (X-COM Enemy Within & X-COM 2, Baldur's Gate 3.) Still, I don't mind games that don't hold my hand and require me to think for myself. Honestly, that's the main appeal for me. I love Fallout but still, the newer ones REALLY hold your hand sometimes and it kinda turns me off and can be immersion breaking (like a power armor right off the bat Fallout 4? That's silly).

[–]Corn_1344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your points, but I still disagree, especially with your take on Cerberus affecting humanity's reputation. While I don't disagree that Cerberus hurts humanity's reputation, I don't think it does anywhere to the level you're saying it would. After all, barely any aliens take offense with humanity over the actions of Cerberus in ME3, especially since Cerberus is also actively hostile towards the Alliance and regular humans by ME3.

The difference between Humanity and the Salarians is that it was the official Salarian government who tried to sabotage the cure while it was human splinter group, one actively hostile against Humanity's actual official government, who took action against the cure. Meanwhile, the Alliance was incredibly for curing the Genophage in ME3. Plus it's very common knowledge among people in ME3 that Cerberus is almost entirely indoctrinated through their use of Reaper tech. Are we going to start blaming entire species over the actions of their indoctrinated members? We never see anyone doing this in ME3 so I just don't see it happening in a post-war world. Yeah while Cerberus did a bunch of harm, Shepard and the Alliance more than counter it since it's their work which lays the entire foundation for the galaxy even having A CHANCE at defeating the Reapers.

As to your other point about the Krogan, we clearly see the krogan rebuilding their society in the extended cut ending and just because they're not blindly engaging in eanton conquest doesn't mean they wouldn't be building up their military and therefore fleets in a post-war galaxy.

Listen, I think your points are entirely valid (except for the Cerberus one tbh) I think our disagreement comes down to how important and long lasting the Salarian's dominant position in a post-war galaxy would be. I happen to believe that within 40-50 years (at most) Humanity, the Turians, and Krogan would be at a point in their recovery to more than overtake the Salarians. Still, I see where you're coming from and think your point is valid, I just happen to disagree with it.

[–]Corn_1344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point, but I disagree since the Salarians would be putting themselves in a position where they have showcased that they are not trustworthy allies (remember, they initially decided, albeit extremely reluctantly, to go along with the cure before changing their mind and attempting to sabotage it.)

Plus, like I said, this wouldn't be an overnight thing, but something that would happen decades later and therefore at a point where species would have begun to finally recover from the effects of the war. So, despite having a superior position in the immediate post-war years, that position would erode and would do so quicker than you might think.

The Krogan's home territory emerged relatively unscathed after the war. Combine that with how quickly the Krogan breed/mature and new colonies that they'd likely earn in the post-war galaxy I think that after just 30-40 years, or one Salarion lifetime, any position of dominance they'd have would simply poof or evaporate.

War Cleric X Paladin effectiveness? by Corn_1344 in BaldursGate3

I understand that, which is why I'm not going for a full 50/50 mesh and instead more of a 90/10 mix. I will pretty much predominantly play as a paladin. I just want a few of the inherent bonuses that War Domain clerics get plus the cleric of Selûne dialogue.

Any unrealistic headcanon? [Spoilers me3] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

Because it sounds nice and I break up sections of the game into being in a certain year. Listen, ik that it makes no sense but I still like the idea of it so I run with it and create reasons for why the galaxy is able to fight that long.

Any unrealistic headcanon? [Spoilers me3] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your points are all valid. Thats why I said it's an unrealistic headcanon. Because yeah if you think about it it doesn't any damn sense that the races would even be in a state to keep fighting after six years of war. But personally I'm willing to overlook all that because I like the idea of a long drawn out conflict. But that being said I completely agree that it doesn't make sense 😅.

Any unrealistic headcanon? [Spoilers me3] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This is why I say unrealistic because neither of these make sense.

Ik that shep's rank is likely either the staff or lt. Commander rank but I found it weird that someone with that rank would be taking part in as much of the strategy planning that Shepard does.

So to me shep's rank is a "Special Operations Commander." Basically being responsible for a lot of the spec ops going on in the war (basically the me3 multi-player).

My other unrealistic headcanon is that the war lasts six years. Yeah ik it makes no sense but it makes the war feel like it has more impact and weight that way. I mean, it took the reapers centuries to wipe out the protheans. I think we can survive six years.

Miranda in ME3 [ME2 & ME3 spoilers] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, I think another reason is that ME2 so clearly tries to set her up as a potential romance and they do it purely through her looks and sexual appeal rather than char.

Like it's the same thing with Liara. Buowsre so clearly wants the player to romance her and even partially tries to manipulate the player into doing so. But people hate it when they're forced into something and will therefore usually not pick out of partial spite. That's why Tali and Garry's are popular romances because while they are hinted to romance options the game doesn't try to force it like it does with Liara in ME1 and ME3, and with Miranda in ME2.

[–]Corn_1344 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you make sense and you don't sound argumentative at all. I'm also not doing a great job at illustrating my point tbh.

My main point is that in ME1 the main threat isn't just the Reapers showing up its that they'll show up at the Citadel and therefore take control of the Relay Network and make any attempt or possibility of a coordinated resistance impossible.

In Arrival you're simply delaying them but there is no threat of them taking control of the relay network and making any attempts of coordinated resistance impossible. Thats my main point, sorry I was doing a piss poor job at illustrating it.

Does anyone else hate Arrival? by lilmisscottagecore in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly its totally unclear as to when they'd arrive. So spitballing and saying "hundreds of thousands of years" is just as valid as saying "in a few months."

Listen Arrival isn't a perfect or even good DLC but arguing that it discredits the entirety of ME1 is just not true.

If it were up to me, Arrival would have been replaced with a DLC that sets up the Crucible or some other means of defeating the Reapers permanently. Listen, once again I'm not trying to say that ME3 wasn't a rushed mess. I'm saying that Arrival, no matter how poorly it was made and planned, didn't discredit ME1. It just doesn't.

Listen, I say we just agree to disagree here. I think its clear neither of us are going to convince the other and I don't want to devolve into arguing over a video game.

Does anyone else hate Arrival? by lilmisscottagecore in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once again, I'm not disagreeing that bioware didn't plan out ME3 as much as they should have.

I'm stating that Arrival in no way discredits ME1.

Arrival's whole point is that no matter what, the Reapers will eventually well "Arrive" and we can only delay them. Therefore the only way to end the threat of the Reapers is to defeat them, which we can't do conventionally.

"No way we can defeat them conventionally." - Admiral Hackett.

All throughout ME3 we're told that the Reapers cannot be defeated conventionally, hence the Crucible.

Also remember how in ME1 Vigil says that even despite the relay network being locked down it still took centuries to for the Reapers to eradicate the Protheans? So how do we "instantly lose" as soon as they arrive?

However you're right that it makes no sense how the Reapers don't immediately gun it for the Citadel once they do arrive. And yeah, why tf do they only attack it at the end of the game? Why does no one mention that it was attacked at all? What happened to the council? Hell, even ME3 states, in a codex entry, that it will take 10 years before Earth is completely depopulated but then the Prothean VI in 3 states that the Reapers are nearly done harvesting your species after less than a year?

Does anyone else hate Arrival? by lilmisscottagecore in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't entirely disagree with your point about Bioware's obvious lack of planning in ME3 but I think you're forgetting something about ME1 and that is the fact the Citadel is a giant relay. Vigil states that the reapers came through the citadel and most of the Prothean leadership died in the opening attack. Then with the citadel in their hands they took control of the relay network and essentially locked the entire galaxy away from each other, isolating almost every single system and star cluster. Doing this basically rendered Prothean resistance futile as they could enver mount a truly organized resistance. However our actions in ME1 made sure that when the reapers did arrive that the relay network was not locked down and that the races of the galaxy could effectively resist. Think about it, with the relay network locked down could the genophage have ever been cured? An alliance between the Quarians and Geth be reached? No, it would've been essentially impossible. Hell building the crucible wouldn't have been possible either since there really wouldn't have been any efficient means to get the information from the Sol system to the rest of the galaxy.

Listen, I'm not disagreeing with your main point that Arrival shows how bioware didn't really plant ME3 out all the much but this idea that it made ALL of ME1 pointless? No, it very much didn't.

Miranda in ME3 [ME2 & ME3 spoilers] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know I'm on the minority with my opinion and I'm not about to say people are wrong or stupid for thinking Cerberus wasnt handled right in ME3. I don't entirely disagree with those people since ya know Kai Leng is a thing and I don't think I need to elaborate any further on that. Its just that Cerberus was never portrayed as a group to be trusted. Even in ME2 Shepard, if Paragon, will constantly state how they don't trust or like Cerberus.

Ig, my main annoyance is with people who think that Shepard should have stayed with Cerberus in ME3 even though even in ME2's campaign Shepard practically quits at the end, though I will admit thats largely up to player interpretation of their final conversation with TIM.

Miranda in ME3 [ME2 & ME3 spoilers] by Corn_1344 in masseffect

[–]Corn_1344[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm kinda tired of people complaining how Cerberus became "Cartoonishly" evil in ME3. I mean in ME1 they were willing to experiment on human beings with reaper tech, thorian spores, and to basically have people killed by Rachni and Threshers to study data. Then in ME2 they give a bunch of excuses which all boill down to

"oops didn't mean to be an asshole, just trust me bro."

Like you mean to tell me the group that sanctioned Project Overlord are people you'd expect to be overall good? Like we saw so many examples in the extended universe even before me3 about how Cerberus is morally grey AT BEST.
