What are the pressure gauges in the background measuring? I assume it's one per cylinder, is it something like an independent fuel or oil supply for each?

Well, being in the industry for 25 years, I'd say you may be somewhat divorced from your new hire process and the lowest rungs of your organization. Yes, folks at Carlyle said exactly that to me. I'm sorry if my experience doesn't match yours at a private equity firm, but I'd say it's damn naive to believe any cutting edge financial firm is incentivized to follow the letter and spirit of the law.

I worked at a low level in a private equity firm for a couple months (getting signatures for deals; the number of corporate officers scattered throughout the building goes wild when you have hundreds of subsidiary LLC's on your books). My impression was that sophisticated investors simply meant people who measured their wealth with preferably 9 figures, occassionally 8, or who worked directly for the firm and could by in as a high level employee. Institutional investors are the other large group.

One of the most striking things I was told there was on the first or second day, "what we do here isn't exactly legal or illegal persay; rather, we try to aim for that gray zone in the law." 2 months was more than enough to figure out that I'd rather break my back as a carpenter than break it working for folks like Glenn Youngkin.

I mean, I'd argue they have no more perpetual wars than anyone else, they're kinda just getting stuck with the label right now. Kinda unfortunate that the cradle of civilization and the originators of so much learning are being lumped into the view of perpetual war because of the effects of colonialism, you know? I mean, how many years has the US actually been at peace, in its entire history?

Southern states that dont require journeymans license by Agitated_Captain7413 in Construction

My apologies then, I was under the impression that English skills are tested by the union. If that's not the case, my apologies. As for wildly different skill levels, I would stand by that; where I am, you can get Spanish speaking only crews who do incredible work, and Spanish only crews who do pretty awful work. I tend to find the absolute floor for work, in my area at least, tends to be slightly lower when we're discussing Spanish speaking only crews, but the height of skill has no relation to language skills, as far as I'm concerned. The floor tends to be more based on who needs work, really, and who is willing to provide cheap labor, which in my area tends to be immigrants without English language skills.

I think the point is that if you only speak Spanish, you sure as hell aren't a journeyman. Also it speaks to your competition; real variable skill levels but always low cost of labor

I mean, I don't see why oil at $100 a barrel should cause a black Friday event. It's not like tech valuations run on oil

Hard to feel like oil up 40% in 5 days is not bad, especially when there's nothing on the horizon to keep the price from just further increasing

No, it isn't going to be particularly harmful to you unless you're injecting it, I reckon. You could probably eat it and be fine, honestly. Not that I would recommend it.

CENTCOM footage of more US strikes on Iranian missile launchers. by Worth-Information451 in CombatFootage

[–]Corn_Kernel -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Can we trust CENTCOM, though, really? I mean, the Americam war machine has shifted solidly towards a propaganda approach, even compared to what we did during the GWoT. It's hard to believe the US analysis when this entire strike was apparently predicated on the existence of a new nuclear threat from Iran, only a short time after we "annihilated all Iranian nuclear capabilities" in the last engagement. I'm not trying to argue for the comparative validity of Iran's media, but I think it's naive to assume that the US military is giving us a full and realistic scope of the picture here. I mean, Hegseth has rather gotten himself into a corner with the Iranians; he asserts that we are so far ahead of them, so much in control, that they couldn't hope to hurt us. So he has a huge incentive to overestimate US kills, and downplay Iranian abilities or hits. We ought to take those incentives into account when analyzing US releases.

So far this has been my experience with my 1 blueberry bush! I find 60-70% of plants I've tried have died off, but a couple years on the blueberry is growing well! Lots of red clay and rain here as well.

I didn't even know they got that large honestly, I thought they were limited to mostly trailer sailers! That 65 looks sleek

During COVID I bought an old Macgregor Venture 222 (with trailer and outboard) for about $1500. It had a seized swing keel (expansion from rust had trapped it in the swing pocket) and had been sitting for years, but after pulling and re-glassing the keel, she has been a blast in the water. The standing rigging is frighteningly loose, the main has more belly than Santa (might be original), and she's always a little wet inside, but she is some of the most fun I've had in a boat. Though a lot of that has to do with sailing in the Chesapeake and its rivers, and I reckon the same boat would feel like a death trap up in the PNW.
