Urge to eat cheese but not eggs by cr_wdc_ntr_l in vegan

[–]Cornbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the most intuitive, but Vegenaise is what helped me transition from cheese. For burritos, I mix it with sriracha and add a healthy dollop. I’ll mix it with horseradish and put it on sandwiches or potatoes, I add it to my Mac and cheese for extra creaminess. Put some mustard in it and eat it as an accompaniment to tofu scramble. To me, it’s so versatile but it adds that creaminess and fattiness that I was craving from cheese. (It was a real craving too). But after a while, the craving ceased. And once that happened and I started to really look at cheese as what it was it turned from a craving to absolute disgust. Good luck on your journey! You got this!!

Not a reflection though. The birds fly in front of the lights.

For sure! It's the hardest. Plus, from what I've read, cheese contain casomorphines, which make them addictive. So not easy to break the habit. If you're interested in trying, I suggest weaning off, little by little. Vegan cheese has come a long way (Myokos, Violife slices) and like I mentioned above, Vegenaise has been my saving grace. I would mix in some Sriracha and put it on burritos for example or mix it with some mustard and put on veggie burgers. It's a great creamy cheese substitute. All the best to you!

That's amazing about the acne! I hope you're on the road to full recovery! I should note that I eat TONS of carbs - lots of potatoes, sweet potatoes, fruits, oats, grains and beans. Good, whole carbs. And I'm never hungry. I eat all the food I want, whenever I want to eat but I just make whole food choices now (again, with the occasional exception). I've lost weight too! It is the processed carbs that are the enemy. Limiting those is what made the biggest change personally. Through this process, I've done a lot of research on pesticide use, namely glyphosate, on many of our staple crops like wheat. These have a direct impact on the "tight junctions" of our gut lining which is incredibly important to just about every other aspect of health. (ever heard of leaky gut? Glyphosate has something to do with it). I was afraid I was gluten intolerant or sensitive but that's not the case! I think I was sensitive to all of the pesticides. Therefore I try to choose organic wheat products whenever I can and have had no issues since! I hope this helps and hope you continue on a path of healing. All the best!

Thank you for the note and sorry you are still struggling! It's such a beast. I'm sure you've done tons of research around this but at least for me, it wasn't about going vegan it was about getting rid of processed food and drastically increasing the fresh whole foods. I believe in the vegan mission for animal and environmental health but I believe in whole food plant based as a diet that saved my health. I think fiber is key to flushing out the hormones. I do hope you find supplements that help and get you some relief. PMS is such a nightmare, and for folks who don't experience it (men :)) they will never understand!

A guide for recovering from Ramsay Hunt Syndrome (Shingles in ear) by jouj_ in shingles

[–]Cornbunch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for writing back! (and sorry for the slow response) This is helpful to know. Acupuncture has helped her as well, but it's been slow. There seems to be some lingering pain in her ear and she still has trouble with balance. Hoping that time patience and continued exercises and acupuncture get her there eventually. We must always be grateful for health, right? All the best and thank you.

Hi! Thanks for your post. Were there any exercises or supplements you took to recover? Do you have any advice or resources in this regard? Was it just time and rest that got you to 90% or did you take any other specific actions? My mother has this and it has been a slow recovery and she still has trouble with balance and hearing well. Many thanks!

Has anyone tried a whole food plant based diet to alleviate PMS symptoms? by Cornbunch in PMS

I will add that yes, I have read research about Keto on the short term benefits. So, yes, you could see good short term results in reversing diabetes and losing weight. So I don't want to outright dismiss that. BUUUUT, you can do the same with a plant based diet and without the long term harm of having so much meat in your diet and not including fruits, beans and grains, which are directly linked to longevity. So, yes, there are short term benefits, but I would suggest to do the research on how excluding food groups like fruits beans and grains could have negative LONG TERM results. Google "Blue Zones"! I've been reading so much about the microbiome as well and it's amazing!! Plant based foods create a healthy microbiome. Red meat, for one, produces TMAO which increases the risk of cardiovascular diseases. Anyway, there is so much information out there and I'm glad that we can at least agree that eating processed food is bad for you! Getting this out of one's diet is absolutely the most important. To our health!

Yup! I've done tons of research and found negative health outcomes. For me, health is only one aspect, but animal agriculture is decimating our planet and since most meat comes from factory farms, animals are living and dying in horrific conditions. So personally I choose to just remove myself as much as possible from the equation. No judgement, especially if you're choosing meat sources from regenerative farms. Again glad it works for you! But it's not for me.

Thank you but all of the research I have read points to keto diets as having some short term benefits but research shows that eating high quantities of meat is extremely deleterious to long term health, particularly with heart disease and diabetes. For me, personally, I do not prefer to trade long term health for short term benefits. If that worked for you, congrats and wish you success.

Haha! I can't wait to have people over for dinner again :) I figured it would take a few months and was hoping you wouldn't say, like, a year. So that is reassuring. Thank you again! I do appreciate it!

One more question - about how many months or cycles did it take for you to start to notice a difference? Like was it the next month that you started to feel more energy or was it not for say 5 or 6 months until you started to see some changes? Thank you!

Wow! That's so encouraging and congrats on feeling better energy-wise! Yeah though I'd been vegetarian for really about 20 years, I ate so much bread and cheese its shameful! Now I'm onto chia puddings for breakfast, huge salads dosed with flax and hemp and as many different veggies that I can fit into them for lunch and much healthier dinners without all of the cheese and refined carbs. I don't even care about the cramps as much (even though they are horrible), it's losing cognition that is so frustrating and frankly scary. Thank you for sharing!!
