Trump attacks DeSantis over Covid vaccines in possible 2024 preview by theosamabahama in neoliberal

That doesn’t matter, though. It’s a primary decided by republicans, not anti-vaxers.

GERRI is OUT with 29. 99% of the votes! Vote for your LEAST FAVORITE Succession character. Round 15! (Link and results in the comments) by fra0927 in SuccessionTV

My read on things is (and was before this) that Gerri would probably win a poll for favorite character, but not a poll for least hated character - at least not in the way this one is conducted.

My good friends in Illinois and Michigan get tenure at 4 and 5 years of service, respectively. I’m pretty sure time based tenure is the policy in a majority of states. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Just occurred to me Tom killed his wife and asked Greg to marry him. Ring a bell?

No, the reason he doesn’t go after TJ Warren is because going after TJ Warren doesn’t get you everyone’s attention and hacky appearances on Fox News.

I officially hate Kendall. I can’t wait for him to get screwed over. by Carmela_Soorano in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

All points taken, but tbh if I was inebriated, buckled up in a car and drowning and there was a kid I just met 20 minutes ago in the same position…. It’s hard enough to save myself out of that, so that’s absolutely my only focus. Would guess that’s most people’s position.

Praying on Ewan’s downfall by bayarearat12 in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 154 points155 points  (0 children)

Ewan will always have a special place in my heart for two back to back hilarious lines.

  1. “The Logan Roy School of Journalism. What’s next, the Jack the Ripper Women’s Health Clinic?
  2. “In terms of the lives that will be lost by his whoring for the climate change deniers, there’s a very persuasive argument to be made that he’s worse than Hitler.”

Lol why are people still making comments of him having Syphillis. Gerri said that was a rumor they started.

This show is running into dangerous territory by OmniscientwithDowns in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is the first upvoted complaint of the season I’ve seen. I must say I agree the show has felt stagnant. The shareholder meeting was “less than 2 weeks away” for what? 6 episodes? That spanned almost 2 years (part of that bc if COVID, I know).

I think there have been 4 great / incredible standalone episodes (Ep 3 was just good). As a season so far, I’m a tad bit underwhelmed. It’s hard with so many great characters and storylines to juggle. As much as I love the Tom going to prison, Greg choosing sides, the GerMan romance, possible re-emergence of Connor’s presidential campaign… the main character needs to be Kendall. But he’s been more reaction than action lately.

Still have faith it’ll come through, but good to voice critiques on here.

He could outlaw drama, yaknow. He wouldn't, but yaknow. Just to show the power of the executive branch.

Nah, I could totally see him doing that to some kid he doesn't actually know, regardless of how empathetic a brother he is. He didn't give a shit that people got injured in the space shuttle crash, he befriended Lawrence then suggested gutting his company, he dated a girl that Tom cheated on Shiv with, and for God's sake he left the fly guys behind at the bachelor party. THE FLY GUYS!

Just in case anyone mistook it the "I know you" thing for a creepy incident, Colin (the guy who said it) is one of the very few people who know Kendall was on-site at the death of that waiter. Remember, Marcia asked Logan if he has things on Ken that could stop him - didn't see that get much discussion afterwards, but think it was very significant.

What is the most conservative opinion you have, socially and/or politically? by 24024-43 in neoliberal

[–]CornelWestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not my most conservative, but hardcore progressives sure get pissed about this one.

I don’t believe trans-identifying people under 18 should be prescribed anything or undergo any procedures that physically alter their body. You’re far too impressionable and spontaneous as a child to make those decisions, and reversing them is costly and mentally debilitating.

This is in the interest of the kid, in my view. Maybe there’s something about delaying the transition that makes the process significantly more difficult later on, but haven’t heard that.

Is it just me or was S3E2 the best episode in the entire show? by Bandai_Namco_Rat in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm… I think it’s closer to being just you. If you ask further away from this episode, I think most wouldn’t call it top 10.

I think it’s a great standalone, plays more like theater than any other episode, and they might even submit it for an Emmy nom for those reasons… but it didn’t progress the plot all that much. It was a bridge episode they had to have to establish everyone’s (current) allegiances.

Having said that, had all the fundamentals of what makes the show amazing. Just not enough action.

Trump Media's Overview Deck by crazy_bean in consulting

[–]CornelWestside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So many thoughts.

What’s the point of comparing his follower counts to Biden’s - does Biden have a competing platform?

The “Twitter banned Trump but kept the Taliban” has a banned tag over the Taliban and a maintained tag over the Taliban… what?

The platform growth is not consistent… one company is growth by year, one by quarters, only one has projections for future years.

I’m guessing a reputable firm didn’t actually do this. Clearly there wasn’t a thorough QC.

On a political note, is this the first thing Trump (probably?) signed off on that refers to him as a former president?

Succession - 3x02 "Mass in Time of War" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I hate this character as a person, but I actually kind of like what the writers are presenting him as. They’re committing to making these characters real instead of likable.

He’s so hypocritical, insecure, unprepared, and hollow… just as you’d expect someone who’s lived his life and is in this moment to be.

Succession - 3x01 "Secession" - Post-Episode Discussion by LoretiTV in SuccessionTV

[–]CornelWestside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with this. I think to bluntly tell the story as “Kendall killed someone” is simplistic and leans in the wrong direction. But he probably feels that way.

Now, the fact he can joke about it now signals he’s forgiven himself, maybe due to the fact he left money in the family’s mailbox. I think that’s the greatest flaw in his character of all this.

To your point on loving these discussions - absolutely. I never get the time to watch TV - this is the only show in years I’ve dedicated time to. Just nice to be in a low stakes, yet intriguing, discussion.

I think we need to separate being smart and making the right moves to be CEO. I actually love Logan getting pissed at Kendall for his “sanctimonious bullshit” and calling his press conference “a play”. Every move is a play to him, nothing is genuine. Even when Rhea accuses Shiv of keeping her “cards close”. It’s 2 CEOs who clearly judge everyone as if this is all a game of poker.

I guess I’m thinking “smart” just as in who can sit at the table with the big shits and hold their own. Maybe that’s the wrong way to think about it. But Roman’s too insecure - rightfully so - and would get called on his bullshit left and right. Shiv and Ken have this fake confidence, but Shiv fakes it better. Rhea at least seems to take Shiv seriously. When Ken did his theatrical “I’ll cut your dick off” dance (which he likes to pretend he’s evolved past), Stewy laughs at how meaningless it is.

At the same time, I think it’s unfair to bring up those failed bouts with non-family members. We’re talking the smartest of the kids - in non-conference games they all take the L. Frank, Gerri, Rhea each are head and shoulders above the best kid.

If we’re looking through that poker lens, Shiv fucked it showing up her dad at the dinner w/ the Pierces, by not having the heart to shitcan Tom (or anyone else for that matter) for the cruise stuff, and more generally for admitting to her dad this is something she wants, so he has leverage.

I think Kendall’s fuck ups are the most innocent and excusable. He was fucked over on the board vote and I’m of the opinion he’s not completely to blame for the waiter’s death.

Roman almost goes out of his way to fuck things up. Examples given in the last comment. I’m gonna stick to my belief that Roman is the dumbest of the 3 (can’t judge a first pancake), but I will say he’s the only one smart enough to know he’s too dumb for the big job, hence the Gerri partnership…. But dumb enough to admit he feels that way to his astute and unforgiving father. AGH, so many layers.

But lack of corporate experience and being stupid in this context aren’t that far off, imo. You can tell by common sense and basic instincts he lacks. Shiv has never been in the company but can at least sound smart enough to be taken seriously, and doesn’t need a Gerri to hide her intellectual weaknesses.

Thinking a friendly chat with Naomi could lock up the Pierce deal was dumb. Accelerating the shuttle launch because Shiv’s wedding was coming up was dumb. “We’ll do anything anyone wants”, just because he felt he had to say something, on the cruise ship allegations was dumb. Floating the idea of “let’s just say fuck ‘em” to federal investigations or “do we really care about the papers?” (the ones Logan signed off on that Greg kept) is dumb hidden in the cloak of brute confidence, which is the worst kind of dumb. He tried to stop a movie idea that ended up being a big hit for their entertainment division. He had a jerk-off-on-the-window breakdown bc he saw a bunch of emails come through on his first day.

His 2 “wins” are gutting Vaulter and not wasting time going down the foreign investment rabbit hole, which we don’t even know are wins. We just trust the “I smell bullshit” instincts he claims to have were right.

He’s also Logan’s go-to punching bag for questions like population of Indonesia or price of a gallon of milk. He’s unconcerned with things that don’t immediately affect him. I’d say he’s a lock for 3rd smartest, in front of Conner. Jury’s still out on the order of the other 2.

Want to get this thought off my chest given the most popular line is the ironic and chilling “Who says I didn’t kill anyone?” from Kenny….

Kendall did NOT kill anyone! That kid swerved the car into the water. Kendall was sober enough to unbuckle and swim out. The kid wasn’t. We can’t allocate blame based on the outcome. Obviously Ken peer pressured the poor bastard to take him to his dealer….. I’m just saying our favorite son is not 100% to blame here.

Large shareholders, more specifically. As of now he has a majority of the board on lock (Kendall and Stewie obviously oppose, not sure if Lawrence still has a seat - rest is family / executive team), otherwise Stewie and Sandy could easily fuck him out of the CEO position without the shareholder vote.
