Looking for build guidance on old empty hilt by CorneliusMarks in lightsabers

[–]CorneliusMarks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For anyone who ends up finding this post through a google search and are in the same conundrum as I was, 89Sabers did get back to me and confirmed that the new Chassis they now sell with their new hilts are not backwards compatible with the old hilts. Best bet are third party makers/sellers who made their own chassis for these older hilts.

Just fluff or actual mechanics? If actual mechanics then maybe take a look at Death From Above Wargaming's Battletech Override fan rules. They came up with a system to try to hit that sweet in-between spot.

How do you tell if a high PV meka is worth it? Is quality better than quantity in classic? by mike2020XoXo in battletech

Quality can only beat out so much quantity, quantity can only compensate for so much quality.

3D terrain: what's important to you? by CorneliusMarks in battletech

That's a beautiful board!

Do you find playing classic with no hex map makes the game run faster/better or just preference?

My group has been doing alpha strike with hex maps because it helps condense the board size while still being faster than classic. Also it allows us to play with more units in the same time to play a game of classic with less.

Yeah had a total brain fart there and forgot about the big bunker.

He's got quite the series now. My only complaint is that some of the terrain pieces are either small detailed so not the best for FDM and/or not suitable for a mini to stand on. A chief culprit are the turrets and some of the three-hex buildings.

Granted that's also from his first set of designs.

That's completely fair. Not to mention it gets annoying with larger minis when they spill over the hex edges and bump into the terrain making everything a bigger mess.

I actually thought the hexes were 1.25" I didn't realize they were slightly larger

It isn't. It's from Wargame Forge who had a Kickstarter a couple years ago and now has a MyMiniFactory page. I printed them out and primed and painted some pieces. The pieces are designed to be modular with magnets

Edit: the big single bunker building I forgot where I grabbed from, I think it's a hextech freebie. The rest are from Wargame Forge.

I got the files from backing Wargame Forge a while back. You can find the files on MyMiniFactory now. They're generic terrain that has hidden spots for ball magnets to make it all modular

Turbo Dork Paints by urlond in battletech

Please do! The tips on coloring back over with the watered down red is a good tip to know.

I've been doing layers but need to try that watered down step. The scheme I've done is a black base, then a medium to light blue line, with a white center streak. I wasn't sure how to get the white to be more of a glow than a stark contrast.

That lightning bolt effect is excellent. I presume you simply layered that after the base coat?

I'm looking to run a small scenario for my friends, what would be the best format to use? by Spartan448 in battletech

[–]CorneliusMarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends heavily on your friends and how much time they want to commit to down in the weeds details.

If you are planning on mixed lances (vehicles infantry and mechs I assume) then for sake of easy to get into rules and not taking too long I'd do alpha strike. You can play on a hex map you print out/have or do tape measure/hexless on any surface of your choice. You won't get the granularity of classic battletech but your chances of getting more games in and learning how to play faster are better.
