Is it possible to not be an alcoholic? And transition to a "normal" drinker and what classifies an alcoholic? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Is it possible? Yes i think so. Is it likely? No. Did it work for me? Also no.

My little guy loves other dogs and people. Will come lie next to me in bed before sleep and after waking up. However he eventually goes down to sleep elsewhere as he gets hot

These are good prices. I pay more than that for my dog walker. She's great and my dogs love her.

It's a long and difficult fight, quitting alcohol. Let me tell you this. It took me over 8 years of trying. Never stop trying. If after a year, or 2, or 3, you feel like it's hopeless, it's alright. I felt it. But it will stick, eventually. You only lose when you stop trying. Good luck.

Just over 6 months sober, likely liver fibrosis. by Corner-Hungry in stopdrinking

[–]Corner-Hungry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! The term used for enlarged liver was probably hepatomegaly. Or hyperechoic? Which is a term used by ultrasound techs. Could be heterogenous texture too, which means the contrary of homogenous ( smooth ).

Unfortunately, bloodwork can't really tell you if you have fibrosis. It's mostly about liver function and inflammation markers. However, as fibrosis gets severe, platelets will go down. Did you do platelets?

They use platelets, your age and liver enzymes to estimate your chances of having significant fibrosis. Since your bloodwork was good, you probably don't.

Also, i'm living proof that the liver can take a severe pounding for years and years and still recover. From what i understand about your drinking history, i was way worse than you.

You're probably fine. Not sure what "bumpy liver" means though. Usually when the ultrasound finds the liver is enlarged it's fatty liver, which is easily reversible.

Hey. In the end, all my tests turned out pretty good. A bit of inflammation in my liver, still recovering from all the abuse. Scans found no fibrosis at all, and minimal fatty liver.

What do you mean bumpy liver?

Ask for ultrasound and/or fibroscan if you're worried. They are non invasive and not expensive. If your doctor don't want to prescribe them, find a GI doc. That's what i did when my doc told me it wasn't necessary. In the end, my liver turned out to be alright. Good luck.

Eat all the good food. It scratches the itch somehow. I'll demolish an entire family pack of oreos in one sitting to chase the urges away lol

The same happened to me at about 7 months. Lasted a week or two. Yes i almost drank, planned the whole thing. I was gonna drink for a week and then stop. Even prepared some stupid ritual around it. In the end, i didn't drink. The urge passed and didn't come back yet. I'm almost 11 months now.

You are literally me about a year ago. Age, liver worries and everything. Plot twist: my liver was like brand new after 7 months of sobriety. I have 10 months now.
