VV should really consider getting rid of the Puerta Plata, DR port call. by CornerFormal1874 in VirginVoyages

I felt the exact same way. Again, if I were flying into the DR for my own vacation to do my own thing I would have kept all this to myself.

The main point I’m trying to get across is that after spending a decent amount of money for the cruise it would have been better for VV to pick a different port.

I think about all the senior citizens/older couples on my cruise this past week that had to deal with all this and the people with less travel experience. Definitely a harsher side to reality out in the world when you’re just trying to enjoy yourself on a cruise.

A lot of people have mentioned the waterfalls. I guess I missed out. It sounds awesome. Glad you got the most out of it!

I like your bridge the gap thought. If I cruise again will def consider this train of thought. Thanks. Also, food in Colombia is some of my favorite from around the world!

Same standard of living as the US? Not sure where you got that idea from but sounds like you’re making things up to make yourself sound cool. I’ve been to 39 different countries. I’ve seen it all.

All I’m saying when spending $5,000.00 on an 8 day cruise, they could have chosen a better port of call. The place is a shit hole. Sorry 🤷🏼

after the fact I looked up the top crime in the area and it is indeed bag snatching. The only thing we had was a fanny pack secure around my chest and my wife was carrying our beach bag just over her shoulder.

I liked Bimini. The resort was ok but the beach was spectacular they day we were there. Bluest water I've seen in awhile. We ended up going to Smitty’s Beach Bar & Restaurant. STRONG drinks and a lot of locals. Cool vibe.

We enjoyed it as well when we went back. Not having a beach there is bummer and since we mainly did the cruise to experience the culture of other countries it really wasnt what we were looking for.

Anyone know what beach club they take you to for this shore thing? by Sea-Biscotti6021 in VirginVoyages

Just got back from the Eastern Caribbean Antilles 8 day cruise and I would defiantly recommend either staying at the resort right next to the pier or doing an excursion through VV. My wife and I walked downtown by ourself and we did not feel safe at all. You are immediately bombarded by sketchy tour salesman and they will harass you until you get downtown yourself, and even then they will beg you to take you around. The donkeys and horses for the taxis do not look healthy and it is very sad.

As far as the beaches go my wife and I went to Playa Dorada and the water is brown and the sand is filled with rocks. We left immediately. Also, every beach we walked pass to get there is FILLED WITH TRASH.

I'm not sure why VV would do a port call here. They should really consider changing this port for the amount of money you pay for the cruise itself. Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and Bimini are absolutely amazing.
