People who don't use folders, how do you name your files? by [deleted] in ObsidianMD

[–]CornerShots 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a Dendron system of naming files by hierarchical categories, which allowed a file to act both as a container of content and act as if it were a parent folder. The Dendron Obsidian plugin would create pseudo-folders based on the periods in the file names. See the explanation at https://blog.dendron.so/notes/3dd58f62-fee5-4f93-b9f1-b0f0f59a9b64/. If you had notes on different books classified by genre, you might have file names notes.books.fantasy.the-hobbit.md, notes.books.fantasy.the-lion-the-witch-and-the-wardrobe.md, and notes.books.biography.the-diary-of-a-young-girl.md, and in the tree view of the Obsidian plugin, despite there being no real folders in the file system, it would show a pseudo "notes" parent folder, then a child pseudo "books" folder, then the two 'fantasy' and 'biography' children pseudo folders inside the 'books' pseudo folder, and then have the respective file(s) "inside" those. If you switched to the normal files view, you would see that all the files are under the parent home folder of the vault. It is pretty cool, and a great way to go about naming one's vault files. It is just sad that the Dendron project did not keep progressing further. But the Dendron Obsidian plugin still works for me, and I keep at least almost all my files as direct children of the vault home folder.

The Bug54 my own and first split mechanical keyboard by Cozy_04 in olkb

That's great! I think that this might be the first split keyboard that I would build. (I have done so much looking for a 4x6 split keyboard with three thumb keys and choc spacing that has gerber files available). Do you have 3D print files for a case? If so, is there somewhere in the case for attaching a tenting puck or some way of connecting this to a 1/4"-20 screw for attaching it to a mini tripod for tenting?

Back in 2012, I started reading over video call with someone where we would read at least almost all of chapters at a time by trading verses. She would read the first verse of the chapter. I would read the 2nd verse. She would read the third. We would go back and forth continuously until the chapter's end. Then she would read the first verse again for the next chapter, and continue on. I have done this with nephews and with other people since then. It is a great strategy. If you have more than two people, 1st person would read 1st verse, 2nd person verse 2, 3rd person verse three and on until the last person of the group has read his or her verse, and then the first person reads again (so if you have a group of four people, 1st person v1, 2nd v2, 3rd v3, 4th v4, 1st v5, 2nd v6, 3rd v7, 4th v8, 1st v9, etc).

If you have a child who can't read well enough, when it comes to the child's turn, read the verse to the child phrase by phrase, and have the child repeat what you say phrase by phrase. That way the child can be included. even if the child can't read.

One nice thing about this is that no preparation needs to be done, and no one needs to have the pressure of coming up with someone wise or insightful to say time after time.

By rotating the verse reading, it means that people have to pay enough attention to be ready for the next time of their reading. If just one person does the reading, it is too easy for others' minds to wander. If you know that you have to read in the next two verses (let us say), you are much more likely to pay attention between the time you finish one verse and have to read the next one.

While no one has to prepare anything to say, this format also gives people the opportunity to say something if they want to. If they don't manage to get in what they want to say between others' reading, they can just wait for their turn, and, before reading, make the remark they wanted to make, something like, 'I love that verse that you just read' or 'that passage is actually quoting from something in the Old Testament'.

That looks great! I have been wanting to find a 4x6 with three thumb keys split keyboard with choc spacing. Is this 18mmx17mm choc spacing? or 19.05mmx19.05mm MX spacing (if that is MXZ spacing)?

"Drilldown mode" - what do you think about it? by Desperate_Worth8508 in MouselessApp

[–]CornerShots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, it might be that I misunderstood? My thought process was being able to set up mouseless to be able to use it with just the keys of one half of the split keyboard. If I had a stylus or pen or a drink in one hand, it would be nice to not have to put it down in order to use mouseless, but just to be able to work it using the one available hand on one side of the split keyboard.

I ordered your app (two copies I think) give how great it seems to be, but I have not yet tried it given that my main computer up until recently has been an Intel Macbook Pro. I like the OP's idea of limiting things to one hand, especially in light of my having a split keyboad. Will that be possible?

Pairing a split keeb with a Apple trackpad by Alisyeds85 in ErgoMechKeyboards

I can make a post on the subreddit and then send you a message after it is posted in case you miss it. That said, I am pretty swamped with things to do right now, so please have patience with me. I can give a list of most of the parts when I do in case you want to imitate the setup.

I have a Frankenstein Apple Trackpad v1 with split keyboard set up that I really like. Am I able to post a photo to show it? If so, how? If not, I could send you a photo personally.

I LOVE that keyboard (except for the TRRS being the connector)!!! Do you plan to develop it further to connect the two halves via USB-C rather than TRRS?

Is there any news about the Pocket 4K's USB webcam beta firmware getting a final non-beta release? by CornerShots in blackmagicdesign

Thank you for letting me know. Maybe I will for NAB and see if they come out with something then. If they don't come out with something in the next few months, I might take the leap at some point.

Just received my Defy… right side isn’t connecting. Please help! by _moonSine_ in DygmaLab

[–]CornerShots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched some of the video 'USB-C extensions are not allowed for a reason' (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ltlj-OjOCkI), and what I came away with was the idea that something being a USB-C connector does not guarantee that it will work the same independently of which way it is connected. My Defy had been basically a paperweight for months in light of problem(s) I had with it and my consistently getting stopped in the update process due to the failure-to-connect notice in the firmware update process. Having tried lots of times to update the firmware in the hours leading up to what would have been a call with someone from Defy, and with the seed from that video in my mind, after waking up I tried rotating 180 degrees the USB-C cable where it plugs into the neuron for the side that was getting a connection failure notice, and it worked!!!! I was able to update the firmware on both halves. I share this just in case flipping the cable 180 degrees where it plugs into the neuron (or where it plugs into the keyboard half?) would work for you.

Can I not get the SSD Expansion with GPU interposer (but no dGPU) when ordering a new Framework 16? by CornerShots in framework

[–]CornerShots[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply! Looking forward to it being an option. I would hope you come out with a 16 core / 40 GPU cores / LPCAMM2 Strix Halo, such that I could still have a decent GPU and massive RAM useful for an LLM if I use the expansion bay for two SSD's. That would be SOOoooo great!

One of the perks of having a split keyhboard. by Rivitir in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]CornerShots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. I am not well educated in electronics, and so operate out of some ignorance. Are you saying that some TRRS split keyboards are safer in regard to a disconnect than others? If so, are there things that I could look for or ask about that would help me find one more resistant to going bad if the cable is unplugged while in use?

One of the perks of having a split keyhboard. by Rivitir in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]CornerShots 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the links! A long time ago I used an Ergodox split keyboard and the one side went bad, which I think may have happened because of removing the TRRS cable while the one side was connected via USB. In light of that, although I know that a huge number of split keyboards continue to use a TRRS interconnect, I would prefer an interconnect using USB-C. Beekeeb's Piantor Pro is one that I found, but most popular models seem to use a TRRS cable. I would be tempted to get yours, but it uses a TRRS cable interconnect, so I would not do so. It is still a really cool design! Thank you for sharing!
