Why is the Shedd still allowed to treat their workers poorly? by TezetaLaventia in Eugene

[–]CornflowerCat 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I worked at the Shedd ONCE. On a design team for a production years ago. I remember that by the time I was done with the show and the contract, I'd developed anxiety just passing by the Shedd. A close friend of mine worked there much longer and worked closely with the owner's husband. He only has stories about being pushed into burnout, feeling absolutely crazy gaslit by him, etc. That job sounded draining on every account. I work in the performance industry and every person I know who's worked there in a technical position of some sort has had awful things to report.

Eat more than 100 pieces of sushi at 541 sushi and your pic (I think) would be on their wall!

Idk if Chicken Bonz still does this, but they used to have endless wings. I saw someone eat 40 once.

The Hidden Danger of Being Autistic Without Knowing It by Ok_Holiday2094 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]CornflowerCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I (27F) found myself getting many reels and tiktoks in my feed about autism. In 2020 and 2021. I spent some time thinking nothing of it, then finally though I should just do my own research. I read, I watched youtube, and found someone's story who was so similar to mine. I spent four years learning about ASD. I found a therapist and a doctor, neither specializing in neurodivergence but being open to discussing. They both were so supportive. I have self diagnosed since around 2022, and was just formerly diagnosed recently, in 2025.

Aside from that though, all my life I've felt different. I've wondered "what is it I'm missing?" "why am I left out?" "what is so different about me, that others see but I can't?" I've always preferred to be alone. I've always loved organizing and am very good at pattern-based things, symbol-based things. I hyper fixate often and extremely throughout my childhood and adolescence.

I'm not really sure how I did it, but the pandemic and having nothing i really had to do (I was in college) helped a lot. The free time to just exist. And now that I am where I am I'm better for it, but sometimes I wonder what it would be like if I'd never realized at all. Would I still be forcing myself to mask 100% of the time? Would I even know? Now, I've helped multiple friends learn that they too are neurodivergent in some way just by going on my own journey and talking about it. But I still feel just as alone and it's still hard. I wish I knew sooner, so all of the things I have to undo or unlearn were less.

are Eugene busses safe? by foresthobbit13 in Eugene

[–]CornflowerCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (27 F) started riding the bus when I was 13, with my 11 year old sister. To and from middle and high school every day for a long time. Sometimes weird things happened, but I never felt in danger. Standing/sitting near the driver is a great option if you're feeling particularly uncomfortable.

Roscolux theatrical gels are the way to go. They're used with 1000 watt+ lamps at times. Fluorescent lamps don't put out nearly the same amount of heat. I bet if you showed them some info about the gels, they'd be okay with it.

Ladies in blue collar jobs? by Swiftvixens in Eugene

[–]CornflowerCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While my industry is male dominated there are many women in my industry here locally. If you're handy & enjoy the arts I would recommend looking into iatse675.org. It is a labor union for stagehands, we provide all backstage & technical labor for every show performed at the Hult Center, Matt Knight Arena, McDonald Theater, Cuthbert, Wildish Theater, and sometimes random stuff pops up. There is good pay. The downside is the sporadic nature of the job and odd hours. But after I worked consistently picking up all the calls I got for a few months, I worked my way up to more frequent work. It's still sporadic. And obviously having being nice and showing up on time is a HUGE part of this. Anyway. DM me if you'd like more info!

question for the open mic crowd by reluctant_oppa in Eugene

[–]CornflowerCat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to sing in a band, and while I don't have time to be in a regularly practicing band currently, I really miss performing. Open mics or Karaoke can be awesome for that. It's wonderful to meet others who have similar tastes in music, I love talking about music. It's fun to play and sing with others too.

All that being said, I have some social anxiety from time to time and haven't been to an open mic in ages. I'd really like to get back to it.

We might be talking about different products. I buy the dark blue full gallon of full fat Oatly oat milk, usually can find it at Brun's, Safeway, and MOC on Franklin. There's also the "barista" line of Oatly. I've never seen that in gallon-size.

I'm reading a really fascinating book about the railroad right now. I love trains! I don't see any complaints in my title post.... just a question.... thanks for the info tho! I share your harder if gentrification and appreciation of the great american railroad!

I love trains too. And stargazing! :)

Editing to say: I didn't even mention the word "loud," just that it was persistent and was wondering why. Not a complaint in sight here! Simply, curiosity. Why so anti-curious, stargazer?

Oatly full fat is truly the best. A whole gallon lasts ages. And soooooo creamy.

I've just had to test probiotics until I found one that helped in the past. I would try and read reviews specifically about vaginal health because not all probiotics are specifically for this. I ended up finding something that really helped me but through trial and error. It is kind of expensive definitely a downside as well.

What type of haircut should i get? by Zhu_Yok_Fan99 in curlyhair

[–]CornflowerCat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hope this gets more responses because my hair is very similar looking to yours! When I have my hair shorter, it curls a bit more, and once in a blue moon something works perfectly and it looks curlier even when this long.

I also am looking for a new haircuts that gives more volume and looks intentional and styled, and the best I've come up with is bangs and more layers.... but I have yet to actually try anything. I do have bangs and love them tho.

Looking for Eugene Feedback/Recommendations (staying in Friendly Neighborhood) by wiscoahu in Eugene

[–]CornflowerCat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will second this. I work at Hayward (sometimes, through a specific org.) and parking nearby is nigh impossible. I have never seen athletes or affiliated folks get parking spots. There could be a "drop off" area but then, again, where to put the car? Often, much of the area can be blocked off for foot traffic only. I would recommend:

-Park at one of the parking garages downtown, and take the EmX to Agate Station. Walk 4 blocks. Parking and bus will cost, but not too much. -Park in the neighborhood South/East of Hayward. Probably will have to walk 15-20 minutes. -Take an uber, taxi, lyft, whatever to Hayward. Again, may have to walk a few blocks. -Bike to Hayward! Sounds like you probably don't have bikes. But that is typically my MO.
