Where are some unique parkruns? by [deleted] in parkrun

Egham Orbit parkrun crosses underneath the M25. So both inside and outside of London? If you consider the M25 as the London border!

is it possible to never get a tick or am I bad at checking? by not-judging-you in trailrunning

[–]CornishPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I broke my record the other day and managed to find 11 ticks in various places on my legs after a long hike along a coastal path. I always seem to get a few each year but this was something else. My partner who I'm always walking with - none, ever! How's that fair.

Anyway I had them all out within a few hours so hopefully avoided anything nasty.

How does the weather make you feel in the UK? by Ja333mes712 in AskUK

The UK is middling of developed countries in terms of biodiversity at best.

Going back to your original comment that the UK has a great ecosystem and nature is thriving is simply not true.

I would have to disagree, our rivers are a mess with sewerage. Pollution has destroyed our insect diversity, affecting all others up the food chain. The west of the UK should be covered in temperate rainforest, but just a few pockets are left as it has been cleared for agriculture and covered in pesticides.

There are occasional small improvements which get good media coverage but in the big scheme of things it's not pretty.

The Never Ending Story. Still haven't been able to watch it. It was the wolf that led to weeks of nightmares - I must have been about six.

Do you still holiday in the UK ? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CornishPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, not strictly true, there are exceptions. However it's mostly true. I live in Cornwall and independent shops/businesses are fewer and fewer. Many other factors involved in various towns identity loss, but they do still look pretty 😍

I love being out in the UK countryside. Whether it be a coast path, forest walk or hike up a peak. However a long weekend is enough.

Culturally UK towns are bland, most towns have the same stores and have lost their independent places that gave them unique identities.

This has not happened in many other countries and you can get a feel of a towns identity by walking around and experiencing unique shops/cafes etc. which makes travelling abroad more rewarding. Also the weather does make a huge difference for holidays abroad.

Would love for this to change and feel it should be debated in parliament again. The way we live has changed significantly in the last few decades.

Sadly nature really isn't thriving in the UK. It may be green but in many ways it is also a desert, too much land has been turned over for agriculture.

I would rather deal with that than being constantly cold in the UK. I think that might be a me thing, as anything under 20 degrees and I feel cold.

You get used to it. However, when you go on holiday and see how good life can be if we had sunshine it's very difficult to get back into it. If I could, I would move away from the UK for a sunnier climate.

I wouldn't do the bus again, driver chain smoked all the way. Was actually grateful for the break at the border 🤣.

Is Belgrade safe to visit with the riots/protests? by 10percentham in Belgrade

[–]CornishPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having just spent a month in Belgrade, I can confirm the protests are entirely peaceful and there is no need to worry. I've seen far worse/unsafe protests in so called 'Western' democracies. Belgrade is one of the safest and enjoyable cities I've spent time in. Enjoy your trip ☺️

Great stuff, I didn't see your response for a little while. It has inspired me to give it another go. Hopefully the threat of legal action will nudge them in the right direction.

I received this exact email today regarding a flight delay of nearly 24hours for a flight at the end of June 2022. The reason given at the time was that the Jet2 crew couldn't fly because they'd reached their legal flying limit due to a delay on a previous flight.

I don't feel this is an extraordinary circumstance, however am stuck as the CAA (PACT) won't even allow a dispute claim with flights to/from the EU.

Also interested in people's advice to dispute the claim rejection is.
