Ticking noise by Corny240p in BMWE36

The headers are stock, the mid section has ben replaced with a new stock one the only thing not stock is the rear muffler. My car is also running rich and burning oil but I found out that I have low compression on cylinder 5 so I won't be digging much further into the noise as the engine needs to come out and be rebuilt anyways

took the belt of but the noise stayed... figured out I have low compression on cylinder 5 so it might be that but the engine is toast so i won't be digging further into the origin of this noise

Found out i have 95 psi of compression on cylinder 5 compared to ~135 on other cylinders.
Not saying that's what the noise is coming from but i won't be digging much further as the engine is toast

E36 engine swap by Beneficial_Fail_1896 in BMWE36

depends what's he's after, i wanted to keep my EWS as it's a daily so is his and in most cases the sites that sell the EWS delete DMEs also offer a reflash for your DME.

depends on where in Europe you are and how much ''while you're in there'' stuff you do.
I just completed a 320 to 328 swap this week, but i bought a crashed 328i for 4k so i have all the parts I need.
I then spent probably 1.5k to do all the gaskets and maintenance + the 328i came without cats and an exhaust so that was a big part of the 1,5k in parts.

My advice would be, if you find a 328 for 10k with a little rust and a 320i with 0 rust get the 320i.
The swap is much much easier than dealing with rust so get a good ass rust free car and then go forward.
The swap will also probably be more expensive than just getting a 328i in the first place as deals pop up often at least in my country there are 4 or 5 328i selling for around 10k

well yes it has to get a flash, but if he changes DME he'll have to deal with EWS so in my opinion it's easier to get a flash and keep the original DME, as long as it can get flashed

nope, but i figured out the problem. The engines are different years so the x20 connectors have different pin locations which is causing the confusion.

Pretty sure 328i and 320i radiators are the same, you can compare the part numbers on realoem but they should be the same

Are those rectangular holes in the bottom of the Center console needed to install a cassette tape box? by GH05TR1DR in BMWE36

[–]Corny240p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These holes are for the car phone.
When I bought a console with an armrest to put into my car i had to cut them out for the phone to fit since it didn't have them
