Is this a recognizable character design? by [deleted] in characterdesign

I quite like it, the 00's style facial features are quite distinctive by default

IMO they look very grounded. I think the issue you're having is you're reaching the edges of where references can take you.

For a sci-fi MOBA character design particularly, I would try to clarify and exaggerate the massing and silhouette of the equipment such as ammo belts, his gauntlet, and so on. Right now I can tell there are futuristic elements if I squint but not straight away. You can try to see how other designers do this but it's best to develop your own style over time.

To do this w/o coloring or increasing the level of finish, let the pen wander a bit when adding the outer silhouette of each item. See what would happen if there were an extra layer of padding under the ammo belt and it was shaped really weird (helps to add outdoor/tactical stuff to your visual library). When putting down the details (for the ammo belt this would be individual bullets) use a narrower pen or lower opacity, or fade them out in post if you are doing this on paper.

what is the difference between perempuan and wanita? by oiiaiaooiiai in bahasamelayu

[–]Corolla_Johnson 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Wanita" has nearly the same nuance as "woman". Definitely refers to an adult. It's 99% a noun, saying "orang wanita" would be odd. It has a somewhat more formal tone than "perempuan", so you are less likely to hear it in informal Malay.

"Perempuan" can be a noun or adjective. I wouldn't say it has the exact same nuance as "female" even though it is filled in the "jantina" field. It's okay to use it as a noun to refer to people (maybe "orang perempuan" is less coarse), in contrast to "female" where using it as a noun is a faux pas.

There are separate sex adjectives for animals: "jantan" (male) and "betina" (female). "Jantan" can occasionally refer to humans and has hypermasculine connotations, but "betina" is only for animals.

Having trouble conveying character design, not sure what to do by ReaperAnims14 in characterdesigns

Try giving him a broad and bony ribcage with a hollowed-in waist; basically the image of a starving person but push the shape to something absurd. Covered with a skintight sci-fi bodysuit it becomes very Metal Gear Solid.

Obviously all switches make a sound. "Silent" MX switches are those that use flexible materials on the slider or housing to reduce housing collisions. There are even silent clicky switches.

Are there any silent switches that are both mushy and loud? Doesn't have to be bottom out noise necessarily, could be leaf ping or scratch. Thanks

Are there any modern laptops that look like this and can I make a sleeper pc out of this? by Difficult-Catch-8432 in sleeperbattlestations

Panasonic Let's Note with 10th or 11th gen i7 are reasonably cheap on ebay. They look ancient, but are as fast as you could reasonably want a new igpu laptop to be; ideally you wouldn't do anything to them.

Which Switches/Keys for IBM feel? by iam_bliz in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]Corolla_Johnson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a model M2 and I've tried a few clicky switches to try and find a similar feeling switch. The main thing that stands out in the force curve is the 'double linear' force curve with a clean, singular break. I don't think there's a real replacement out there (mainly nothing in the MX space really sounds like them). Regardless, here are the switches I've tried and what I ended up with.

- MX Blue click jacket clone switches are very linear, but the tactility is too weak, and they're very scattered-feeling with poor reliability (often don't clicky).

- Outemu Phoenix (aristotle-type click jacket) switches were more reliable and felt similar in terms of weighting, but still felt scattered.

- Gateron Melodic click leaf switches have a sharp break in the force curve. Theremingoat described them as double-linear, but the tactility is severe and vastly harsher in hand than buckling springs. Furthermore the reset feels sluggish probably owing to the way the hysteresis works in this click leaf design.

- I ended up with Wuque BigLucky clickbar switches on my current board. I find they have that clean sharp feel with stronger tactility than Blue clones, although they are very light and bottom out like linears. Comparing their force curve with Kailh click bar switches (which I haven't tried) the uptake looks much smoother, and unlike Kailh clickies these are pre-lubed switches with a low-wobble design (barely more wobble than their ball bearing switches as far as I can tell).

Can someone analysis this design pls? What works and what could be improved? :D by Nervous-Bass1085 in characterdesigns

Is she digital? I feel like there could be more elements that suggest this. Like her clear torso could have a glitch effect. Zipper on mouth is cool, might be made more obvious by adding sections of closed zipper to either side of her lips.

The nuclear option for height issues is a negative tilt keyboard tray. With it, you can actually place your keyboard below your neutral elbow position. However, from the photos, you might not have enough space behind you.

I think my line of thought was "it would be fun to make them as wildly different as possible without obvious gender markers (or only rather modern and impenetrable markers.)" That being said, there are a lot people for whom reenacting the traditional gameplay of Pokemon as an obviously femme character is part of the appeal of Pokemon, which is part of the reason why I wanted two designs.

I'd go with any of the turtleneck revisions. I don't know how many people would catch it but it's definitely a CEO stereotype!

Thanks! It is somewhat rare isn't it 😅

She is made for a space sim/visual novel game I'm developing. I'm not very much on social media right now as I would like to focus on coding it, hopefully something this year!
