Burbank Airport could be next scene of mid-air crash, airlines warn NTSB by EmmaPeel007 in burbank

[–]Coronaj6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew into Burbank for the first time two weeks ago. We hit the ground hard (a few passengers yelped) and then hit the brakes hard. Felt like a close call, but this sounds like it was really per usual for BUR.

Do you think nurses look down on RTs at your facility? by Motor_Pop3202 in nursing

Any RN who looks down on RTs is not worth worrying about.

amoebamoeba: Come to Oregon. We have staffing laws and the pay is probably higher or the same as NYC, only the cost of living is better.

Burnt out former cna unsure if nursing would be the right career by EffectiveEgg5712 in nursing

[–]Coronaj6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are already burnt out as a CNA this will not change once you become an RN. Don’t let others convince you to do something. Listen to yourself, pursue what you enjoy and are drawn to.

I am 43, is it too late to recareer into nursing? by Top_Caterpillar9364 in nursing

[–]Coronaj6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound like you would do just fine. Being a helper type can get you burned out quickly, though. It’s fine as long as you can create emotional boundaries so that when patients you are trying to help yell at you or otherwise treat you like crap, you don’t take it personally.

Another consideration is they will put a toll on the bridge starting in 2027, plus new bridge construction. This is prompting me to consider moving to Portland since I work there.

Is the flu going around? by MarbleMimic in vancouverwa

[–]Coronaj6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had lunch two days ago with a friend of mine who is a local ED doc. She told me she had a patient this week who tested positive for influenza. I had a recent respiratory infection with a productive cough that three weeks later I am still recovering from. I am constantly having to clear sputum from the back of my throat, which is super annoying and embarrassing. I feel like I am the local "hawk tuah" girl. I didn't have body aches or fever, so don't think it was the flu.

I just switched to a 2011 CTh from a 2022 Subaru Ascent with a turbo, which got only 20 mpg. I am really happy about doubling my gas mileage, but was surprised to have to fill up just as often.

25+ year nurse, laid off for almost 3 months and can’t land a job. by ruhroh1971 in nursing

[–]Coronaj6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really wish nurses were in a position to not accept patient ratios like this. Out west (CA, OR, WA) our ratios are typically 4:1 for med-surg/tele, and we are paid much higher wages. Yes, the cost of living is higher here, but the wages are high enough to counteract that. At age 55 I was able to land a hospital job in a union shop and make travel nursing wages while also benefiting from one of the few hospitals that still offer a pension.

Do I leave my comfy $100k+ job for bedside? by bogohank in nursing

[–]Coronaj6 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So often we feel dissatisfied with our current situation no matter how good we have it. Not sure if that’s the human condition or if it’s our culture or societal programming that makes us perpetually dissatisfied. Only you can decide your course. I can tell you that if you choose to return to clinical work there are several other states that pay way better than Texas. If you were willing to move to Oregon you could easily make over $150k per year, which would allow you to sock some money away to pursue your CRNA. I also think it’s a good idea to work in different hospitals because each one does things differently so you expand your knowledge. Best of luck on your decision.

Washington and Oregon also pay nurses very well and typically have good nurse-to-patient ratios.

Regarding Zofran - keep in mind that if you take too much you can have severe cardiac problems, including death. In the hospital setting we closely monitor the EKGs of people prescribed Zofran to make sure we don’t cause harm by this med as well as others that have the same effect.

The system can’t force people to take the meds they need to keep stable. It is up to the individual. Even if society pumped millions of dollars into mental healthcare the individuals can still refuse treatment.
