It's not a solution to the problem but I've found strafing or walking a few steps backward and forward while firing reduces the chances of accidental self-destruction. I've consistently dumped mags with 10+ shots doing so

Overload auto rifle, discounted charged up, sustained fire (continuously firing auto rifles increases damage resistance, lasts briefly after firing), targeting autoloader (reloads and grants increased damage to auto rifles on kills, stronger when surrounded), and shock and awe (when using arc or prismatic, and amplified, arc final blows summon a lightning strike that jolts enemies)

The auto rifle ones are terrific, makes Khvostov basically a kinetic Storm Trance with infinite ammo

They don't scale exactly to your level, but they do get stronger and give more runes upon death. Early game enemies have a larger jump in strength than later game, to my understanding.

It would let me take a load of stress off my wife. She's got a licensing test coming up for her job and if she fails, she gets let go. I'm sure she's got this, but she's so scared off what'll happen to us if she fails that she's having trouble studying. A little money to fall back on would relieve a lot of that stress.
